4. Read the story then answer the questions. My name is Tommy and I ve always thought horses were fantastic animals but I ve never had the courage to ride one, I also love the mountains and sunny Spain and I have always wanted to lose my fear of horse riding so last year I decided to go on a horse riding course in the Alpujarra Mountains near Granada on the Southern side the Sierra Nevada with beautiful valleys and rivers and some amazing fauna and flora. My idea was to take a 3 day course then horse trekking in Serra Nevada. I arrived at Malaga airport and headed to a small farm on a hilltop where I was going to take the course. The next day was my first time on a horse. It didn t look as if it liked me very much. It had its ears back and in the book I d read it said if a horse has its ear back, it s angry or feeling bad about something. It also moved around too much for me and it was enormous! Its name was Pegasus (I m sure it could fly because I have never seen a horse run so fast in my life). I was relieved when I found out that during the morning I only had to learn about how to care for Pegasus and learn a bit about its personality. I was right about the ears, my horse trainer said Pegasus had a bad temper!! Not exactly the best kind of horse for a novice like me. Of course learning about Pegasus meant cleaning out the stable until lunchtime, not a job anyone likes doing straight after breakfast. I decided to have a siesta after lunch. To be honest I couldn t sleep thinking about me sitting on the top of Pegasus! I was terrified!! Anyway, that afternoon I stood next to Pegasus and tried to climb into the saddle, it was really difficult because he decided to dance a bit every time I went near him. After about 30 minutes I managed to climb up and sit on him it felt like being at the top of a mountain and looking down. Suddenly his ears went back; he made a strange noise, jumped in the air and ran off across the farm along a path that led up into the mountains. I could hear my trainer shouting don t fall, hold onto his neck but I could feel myself slowly falling off the saddle. I was so frightened I felt sick. I tried pulling at his reins (ribbon) but he wouldn t stop. Then suddenly he just stopped, turned round and walked back to the farm. After that I really felt like going home and it was only the first day!!! Horse riding was not for me! Answer the questions. 1. W hy did he go to the Alpujarra Mountains? 2.
