November 08, 2017 India pledges additional fund of $ 100 million to UN Partnership Fund India has pledged an additional amount of USD 100 million towards the UN partnership fund, scaling up its support to sustainable development projects across the developing world. The contribution would be in addition to India's contribution of 10.582 million US dollar to various other UN programmes. A total of USD 398.98 million was pledged by about 20 countries during the conference session. Antonio Guterres is the Secretary General of United Nations. Long range cruise missile Nirbhaya Test fired by DRDO India conducted a flight test of its indigenously designed and developed long-range sub-sonic cruise missile Nirbhay. It can carry warheads of up to 300 kg from a test range at Chandipur along the Odisha coast. This was the fifth experimental test of the homegrown missile system. Postage Stamps released to honour Hyderbadi Cuisine On the 3rd November 2017, the Department of Posts released Postage Stamps to honour the famed Hyderabadi cuisine. Three famous dishes Biryani, Baghare Baingan and Seviyan were the ones in honour of which the stamps were released. A stamp to honour the world famous Tirupathi laddoo is also likely to be issued soon by the Postal Department. Nobel Memorial Wall inaugurated at Delhi Metro Station On the 1st November 2017, the Royal Embassy of Sweden and the Delhi Metro Corporation jointly inaugurated the Nobel Memorial Wall at the Rajiv Chowk station of the Delhi Metro Rail. The wall exhibits the paintings of Indian Nobel Laureates including Rabindranath Tagore, Sir C V Raman, Mother Teresa, Hargobind Khurana, S.Chandrashekar, Amartya Sen, Venky Ramakrishnan and Kailash Satyarti. Indian Pavilion at COP 23 in Germany inaugurated The India Pavilion at Conference of Parties (COP) 23 was inaugurated by Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan at Bonn in Germany. The Minister is leading the Indian delegation, which is participating in the 23rd to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) being held at the Bonn, Germany from November 6-17, 2017. India s theme for COP 23 is Conserving Now, Preserving Future. The previous edition of the COP (22) was held in Marrakesh, Morocco. Israel Centre opened in IIM, Bangalore On the 5th November 2017, the Israeli Consulate in Bangalore opened the Israel Centre in the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore to commemorate 25 years of Indo- Israeli partnership. HSBC commits $ 100 billion to fight climate change On the 6th November 2017, banking giant HSBC announced that it was committing $100 billion by the year 2025 to fight climate change all over the world. The Bank also announced that by the year 2030, all the power used by all its offices across the world would be 100 % sourced from renewable energy. It would achieve this by direct lending, bonds and project finance. Harvard honours Elton John for efforts for fighting HIV, AIDS Harvard Foundation has honoured legendary singer Elton John with the Peter J Gomes Humanitarian Award for his contribution in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Mitchell Starc creates history by taking two hat-tricks in the same match On the 7th November 2017, fast bowler Mitchell Starc became the first man to take two hat-tricks in the same first-class game in Australia as he hit ominous form ahead of the Ashes Test series against England.
