We also witnessed the creation of Banjarla Daedin as the newest Lion of An Tir! All that, along with all the fighting that any fighter could want! Scribal Work Party Our Chief Scribe, Baron Arthur is hosting a scribal work party and potluck at his house on Nov. 6 th to work on charter scrolls for the Blasted Tree and Sable Brush Awards. Arthur & Rowena will provide lasagne, so bring a contribution to fill out the meal. The potluck will start at noon with work to start at 1:00. Bring whatever supplies you have. Regular Baronial Gatherings Tuesdays at 6:30 PM: Fighter s Practice, which includes practice for heavy armored combat and rapier combat, with an emphasis on rapier the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesdays and heavy combat the 1 st and 3 rd. (There are often both types of combat going on, but because some fighters do both, they have set up an alternating schedule.) There are sometimes Youth Armored fighters present as well. Non-fighters are encouraged to attend, bring projects to work on, observe and ask questions. Newcomers are always welcome. Call Sir Dyon at 509-627-0142 for more information. Starting November 2nd, Fighters Practice will move indoors to New Horizons School at 3110 Argent Road in Pasco. (Near CBC) For those who would like to keep up to date on what s going on with practice, including cancellations for school closures, etc, send an email to subscribe to the fighters emailgroups:wastekeepheavyftr-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or for rapier WasteKeepRapier-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. 2nd Thursdays: Baronial Council (Business Meeting) This event is not in costume, and newcomers are always welcome. It is here that upcoming activities are planned, budgets are discussed, etc. All are welcome to contribute ideas. The meetings begin at 6:30 and are held at Round Table Pizza in Pasco. Pages usually meet monthly on Sunday afternoons at Noon at the home of Baron Styrkarr and Baroness Dagrun Stjarna, 1352 Chardonnay Drive, Richland. The next meeting is not set at this time. Watch the email list for the next meeting date. Armoring/Arts & Sciences: Meeting weekly on Wednesdays at 6 PM. (See article on the next page.) 3

Armoring at Master Ulrik s House, 3310 W. John Day Ave in Kennewick Wednesday Nights at 6 PM This is an open evening of Armoring or other A&S projects, Master Ulrik is opening his garage to anyone who want to gather to work on projects. What it is: A place to bring current project to work on in a group environment. A place with lots of tools/equipment. A place to get help, ideas, suggestions on projects. A place to look at and copy patterns for armor pieces. A place for basic instructions on construction methods What it is not: A place to have someone make you something. A place to get all the material for your project. A class on how to make something particular. For questions call Master Ulrik at 509-987-5109. Officer Changes Master Ulrik has taken on the Arts and Sciences Office Companion Inguz has agreed to become the Baronial Exchequer The Honorable Lady Aerindis (formerly known as Eireannach) will take Inguz s place as Herald At next month s meeting, Her Excellency Baroness Meghan will step down as Mistress of the Lists and Lady fine will take her place. 4

As You Like It Masked Ball October 30, 2010 Waitsburg, WA This year s As You Like It will be a Samhain celebration. Come join us in the Canton of Akornebir as we celebrate the end of harvest. Need to try out that new mask for 12th night? This is your chance as there will be a masked ball with a prize going to the best costume and mask. There will be dancing and fighting alike as the Canton determines their new rapier champion and celebrates their success! Authorized rapier fighters of all skill levels are welcome. Not the fighting type? Test your skill at the Canton s A&S contest to become Akornebir s newest A&S Champion. Artisans of all skill levels are welcome to show off their projects. Worried about bored kids? Worry no more there will be gourd painting for the youth of all ages. A feast will follow the evening festivities. Attendants need only worry about breakfast and lunch. Merchants and teachers are welcome; please contact the autocrat prior to coming to ensure we have the space and can add your class to the schedule. There will be no merchant fee. Fees: Adults $10, Youth (6-17) $5, children 5 and under are free. Mundane family cap $30 non-member surcharge of $5 applies to all adult non-members. Wastekeep Baronial Council Meeting October 14, 2010 September Minutes were approved as written with one pro forma vote. Old Business: Baron s Ball: there were 205 attendees, with 36 day trippers. We raised $3,154.00 at gate. $640.00 was raised at a desert auction. Total gross $3794.00 with about $2800.00 as profit. Mairghread volunteered to autocrat next year. New Business: Yule: Dec. 11 at Richland Masonic Lodge. Need check for $225 with $200 being a refundable cleaning deposit, $25.00 non- refundable, with another $250.00 site fee to be paid at the event. Marcia wants votes for hand printed cards to be used to invite Royalty. Seneschale- May Crown 2011: The fairgrounds has given approval for having food vendors. SCA food venders must have their own insurance, or we may use normal fairground food venders. We have to have extra dumpsters. We will also need more port a potties than last year. We will need to have a potty-ocrat to take care of the restrooms on site. There is a permission form out now for photographs to be used in our publications or on website. We will be discussing a web only Word next month at council. Eric stakes- $200 dollars were voted on to get the rack for the eric stakes made. We also need to get a coating of rustolium on them as they are starting to show signs of rust on the welding joints. Seconded and passed. Officer Reports: Baroness- is still looking for quality items to be included in the Outlands bag for Estrella. Our Baron and Baroness will be attending Toys for Tots, Yule for both Wastekeep and Vulcanfeld, and 12th night. 7

A&S: Ulrik stepped up as A & S Minister. A & S night at the Baron and Baroness house, time TBA. A & S armoring night- 2 new people showed up and got a lot of information about types of armor. A & S-Stjarna- Aeringeldra, of Lyonsmarche, also known as Amalthia won the A & S championship at Baron s Ball. Chronicler- Catriona-NTR (Absent) Web Master- send emails to Ulrik as reminders. Heraldry-Inguz stepped down as Herald. She bought picdict and other necessary publications that had already been voted on. Reeve-Inguz stepped up as Reeve as Buddy has stepped down. They are doing the audit Nov. 14th at clubhouse at the Trailer Park in West Richland. $3679.58 in checking before writing checks, with $1443.49 in savings. We voted to accept handwritten note for the eric stakes as the original died. Scribe- Arthur is having a potluck at his house Nov. 6th. 12:00 with work to start at 1:00 on Nov. 6th. His address is 405 N 23rd in Pasco. YAC-Rowland-We had a YAC tourney at Baron s Ball the loaner set needs work. Archery-Rowland-practice has slowed down due to weather and time. No luck on finding an indoor archer range. Archery was held at Baron s Ball but not too many showed up due to snake scare. Rowland has receipts for equipment purchased, we have 3 mats, 3 stands, 3 bows (2 universal, 1 left handed), 4 bracers, arrows are getting refletched. Marshallate : (Dyon ( was not in attendance) ) Reminder that November will start the indoor fighter practice at New Horizon School. Sir Gueron was the winner of the heavy combat at Baron s Ball. Baron Cedric (I m Dead) won the Friday night torchlight heavy tourney. Seamus Blackwater won the Grape Tourney (as we were not able to purchase roses) on Sunday afternoon. List Mistress- Meghan-stepping down as Fine has volunteered to step up at next Baronial Council. Chatelaine-Stjarna- Catriona is putting together a poster for the Barony. Stjarna had the idea of getting colored stickers of the Baronial Device to put on the black 8

and white handouts to give it a hopefully inexpensive bling. They may also be used on mailings from the Barony. Gold Key- Rowena-five people were dressed at Baron s Ball and we got everything back. Grete Book- Catriona-NTR (Absent) Minister of Children- Erin- we had children s activities at Baron s Ball and just wanted to remind that it is not a Babysitting Service. Pied Piper- OFFICE OPEN- we really need a Wastekeep Pied Piper as Erin is Regional and is not able to do this herself. Dean of Pages- Stjarna- meeting at 12:00 on Sunday at her house, topic will be Heraldry. Ithra- Marcia- presented Teachers Certificate to Ulrik for co-teaching Armoring Basics class at Ithra. First Aider- Roth- not present- Canton First Aider reported several minor injuries during Baron s Ball. Librarian-Xarrmon-NTR Canton Business: As You Like It is coming there will be Dancing, Rapier Tourney, they is a Design a T-Shirt Contest for Best use of a Red Squirrel (this is not meant as a cooking recipe contest), Best Mask, there will be Gourd Painting, and Best Overall Costume. The Canton would like to borrow the serving bowls and platters for the feast. Next Council Meeting will be November 11 in Pasco Round Table Pizza. Meeting Closed Sideline Note- Baroness Rowena is looking for two of her heraldry books that t she loaned out, they have her name on them. Meeting Minutes from the Canton of Akornebir October 2010 New business Meeting change: the meeting has been moved to the third Thursday of the month. Several people had a conflict with the first Thursday and the second is the Barony meeting. Herald: Lady Erin is stepping down as Herald. The deputy is interested in the position. Office is open Chatelaine: New introduction to Lonnie, a person new to town who is interested in fencing. Lady Sadhbh is stepping down. Lord Nicholas is willing to step in. See HL Katherine if interested Exchequer: Check issued for feast supplies: $200. Check issued for first aid supplies: $50 Seneschal: HL Katherine is stepping down but will hold the office until a replacement is found. Position is open.
