EDITOR SPEAK Dear colleagues, This is a much awaited time of the year, when the festive season starts setting in, and the weather begins to cool down in preparation for winter! Welcome to the Fall issue of GVK WORLD! The last quarter saw many significant developments and achievements across our business verticals. From GVK being named amongst the Best Infrastructure Brands 2016 ; GVK CSIA bagging the Best Airport in Metro Cities award; our Deoli-Kota Expressway winning the Best Roads and Highways Project of the Year, and GVK ONE being bestowed with the Times Retail Icon Award, these last few months have been quite rewarding. Flip through, to know more about all the bagful of accolades that have come our way lately. We are happy to share with you the news that GVK EMRI has now expanded its services across Indian boundaries to Sri Lanka. Our cover story brings you insights on how this significant service, after transforming the emergency care scenario in India, would contribute towards further strengthening the health care set-up of our neighbouring country by providing timely access to emergency situations. Presently, this service has been deployed in the Western and Southern provinces and would gradually spread to other districts across Sri Lanka, in a phased manner. Another development is the launch of Tajness at all our TAJGVK properties - a unique concept that goes back to the core values of the group: distinctive hospitality, Indian inspired luxury and a sense of warmth. Tajness is a new brand philosophy that would ensure consistency in service and an experience that is Indian at heart. Read on to know more about this unique concept. This issue also encapsulates glimpses of traditional festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Vishwakarma Puja and Navratri celebrations across various locations, as well as celebrations at the GVK AP1 Bali International Airport, Indonesia. We also present the colourful contributions received for the Dress in tri-colour contest that was launched as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Wish you a great festive season ahead. Happy reading and here s wishing you all a very happy, prosperous and environmentally friendly celebration of Diwali!! GVK EMRI ventures overseas MAIN FEATURE Our Founder Chairman and MD Dr GVK Reddy and Hon ble Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe lighting the lamp 04 GVK EMRI joins hands with the Sri Lankan Govt to launch 1990 Emergency Ambulance Service G VK EMRI after transforming the emergency care scenario in India, has now collaborated with the Sri Lankan government to launch a first-of-its-kind 1990 Emergency Ambulance Service (EAS) in that country, which would further strengthen the healthcare system by providing timely access for any emergency situations. The inauguration ceremony was held on 28 July, 2016 at the hands of the Hon ble Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mr Ranil Wikremesinghe and our Chairman Dr GVK Reddy in the presence of Mr G V Sanjay Reddy, Vice Chairman GVK, Mr K Krishnam Raju, Director GVK EMRI, Mr Subodh Satyawadi,

During the inauguration ceremony held at the Galle Face Green, Sri Lanka, our Founder Chairman Dr GVK Reddy stated, It is indeed a matter of great honour and fulfillment to be a part of this historic moment of commencement of Emergency Management Services in Sri Lanka. I am personally indebted to both the Honourable Prime Ministers of India and Sri Lanka, for their trust placed in GVK EMRI in realizing this dream of implementing 1990 Emergency Services in Lanka. The Hon ble Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe also shared his happiness to be associated with such a noble initiative, and mentioned that this is a service that is much needed by the people of Sri Lanka. A videotaped message from the Hon ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi was also played on the occasion.. With a USD 7.6 million grant and technical assistance from India, this service would help uplift and improve the emergency care 05

medical facilities in Sri Lanka. Through this initiative, over 550 Sri Lankans are being given employment including 250 EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) who were trained in India to stringent standards. In addition, 250 pilots and 50 Call Center Operators have been trained and equipped with the know-how and competencies in managing and administering emergency care. This extent of knowledge transfer, which includes US paramedic certifications and a state-of-the-art Command and Control Center located in Rajagiriya, Colombo is another first in the country s healthcare set-up. Based on GVK EMRI s model of sense, reach and care, this is Sri Lanka s first fully fledged prehospital care ambulance service that would be available to anyone, free of charge. While Sri Lanka s healthcare is quite well developed, the launch of this service would help fill the gap that existed in gaining timely access to emergency situations. Many deaths occur due to lack of facilities to rush the wounded or the sick to a hospital in time. Now, anyone wanting the service can call the hotline 1990 and a fully equipped ambulance would arrive at the spot within 30 minutes, stabilize and transport the patient to the nearest and appropriate state sector hospital. It is in that golden hour that care must be administered in case of emergency situations and these ambulances are equipped with all the facilities along with highly trained personnel who provide pre-hospital care. The service has presently been deployed in the Western and Southern provinces and would gradually spread to other districts as well. Given the socially responsible facets embedded in this initiative, it is indeed an honour for the Govt of India and especially, GVK, to be associated with such a noble initiative. The commencement of the ambulance project augurs closer ties between India and Sri Lanka and would also help strengthen the economic development of the two nations. Airport Hospitality Redefined Pranaam GVK Guest Services SPECIAL FOCUS At Pranaam, we are always working on innovative means for making moments of truth for our guests 10 P ranaam GVK Guest Services is conceived by Mumbai International Airport to enhance passenger experience while they travel through CSIA, Mumbai. By providing dedicated assistance from kerbside till the aircraft, we ensure that every Pranaam guest has a stress-free and a hassle-free airport experience. At Pranaam, we don t want to provide just facilitation inside the airport but we aim to become the travel buddy of our guests and an extended hospitality arm for our customers; from check-in till boarding! Have an exclusive lounge experience when you finish 50 years of togetherness!

And we don t like to stick to the ordinary. Whenever we get an opportunity to commemorate a wedding union, we ensure there is nothing holding us back in making the airport experience a lifelong memory! Pranaam as a brand has grown by leaps over the last few years; we have always been a hot favourite amongst the Bollywood fraternity. At Pranaam, we truly believe the airport can be much more than a transit / transactional place. We believe and work as a team to make beautiful memories creating a niche for ourselves. Being treated like royalty when you begin your new journey Amaze a teen on her Sweet 16 birthday by jamming into a Birthday Song in the middle of a crowded lounge! Hollywood actors (Mummy star Brendan Fraser) being facilitated by our growing team SPECIAL FOCUS Straight From the Heart by some of our regular guests For me, the on-ground experience is as important as the in-flight one. I have used similar services in other parts of the world but their warmth and efficiency with an added layer of Indian hospitality really sets Pranaam apart. At one time air travel used to be an elegant affair but that has all changed. Airports are now stressful and chaotic and, as I m often travelling alone, it can end up being unpleasant dealing with crowds, long queues and delays. It s great having an insider taking care of you and making sure your time through the airport is as smooth and worry-free as possible. Rahul Khanna Bollywood Actor 11 So Pranaam Services is really really really awesome. They re my travel buddies almost. Whenever I go or when I come back home they re always there to welcome me with a lot of love. So thank you guys so much for always being there and I hope Pranaam is always there to welcome me back home and take me away wherever my destination is. Thank you! A Vision for India Sadhguru is a yogi, mystic and visionary, and a prominent spiritual leader. An author, poet, and an internationally renowned speaker, Sadhguru s wit and piercing logic provoke and widen our perception of life SPIRITUAL TALK 14 T he beauty of our nation is resilient. A large percentage of the Indian population is self-employed. This means everyone is an entrepreneur by himself. There is a difference between taking up a job and being an entrepreneur. Even if you are just selling peanuts on the street, you still need to understand where is the cheapest resource, where the market is good, what is the right kind of marketing and what one should say according to the season. There is a lot of brainstorming involved, even in selling a heap of peanuts. How so ever small or big an entrepreneur is, he has a certain active intellect going on within him. He is a small entrepreneur only because of the situations in which he exists, not because of his capabilities. If you just give him an opportunity, and he finds the necessary exposure, he will propel himself. When such an effervescent intellect exists, we must certainly harness it. If you just create a conducive atmosphere, people will do incredible things. One thing about Indians is that they have a huge sense of loyalty. If you do something for them, they would always be there for you. Another thing I always see is that an average Indian crowd is intellectually much more effervescent than most of the people on the planet. I have spoken to all kinds of groups, to the highest level of academicians, scientists and economic leaders. There are brilliant people, no question about it, but there is a certain level of intellect in the general population of India. This is the effect of thousands of years of culture. And it has to be harnessed. If you leave it unharnessed for too long, it will dive down and become static. Right now, it is still an effervescent intellect. If you give a person a little support, he will climb. Today, India is on the threshold of an economic upsurge. Various things that we could not even dream were possible for a larger segment of the population may be possible in the next few years if we handle things in the right manner. Large segments of the population may hugely benefit. We are right on the threshold, it just depends on how we handle it. People want predictions, Sadhguru, can you predict what will happen to India? In fifty years, will we be a superpower? I feel that if we handle the present situation smartly, we can be a tremendous power because we are a population of 1.2 billion. A population of 1.2 billion with the necessary intellect is as good as anything can be. Power does not mean, Will we have the biggest army in the world? Power means everyone looks at you for guidance in the world. If they want to live well, they look at you for guidance this is power. This culture has always had this power. People always looked east when they thought of living well. So this is not empty talk. This was always there but the culture has fallen. But, one must understand that this happens to

all cultures. There will be peaks and there will be downtrends. If we as a generation have any sense, we have to pull it up. This does not happen on its own; everyone has to work towards it. Too much empty talk is going on around the nation. This is not the time to talk; this is the time to do something. This is the time to work. Every individual, whatever sphere of life he is in, whatever responsibility he holds, whatever influence he has, has to stand up and make that happen in his area. The governments cannot do this; some other leader cannot do it. Every human being has to do it. A vision for India is not about what I think or what you think. What people need is what needs to happen. Right now, what people need is atleast Sadhguru, Isha Foundation a reasonably decent standard of living. So, the most important thing is nourishment, which must happen. Today, sixty percent of the Indian population is considered malnourished even the reasonably well-to-do because their skeletal systems are not growing to full size. If your body does not grow to full size, your brain will also not grow to full size. We are producing an Power does not mean, Will we have the biggest army in the world? Power means everyone looks at you for guidance in the world. underdeveloped humanity, which is a very big risk for the future. If you have 1.2 billion people, healthy, active, focussed and trained for something, you can make a miracle out of it. But if you have 1.2 billion people unhealthy, malnourished, uneducated, unfocussed and uninspired, you have a major disaster on your hands. Are we going to turn this population which is the youngest population on the planet in terms of nations into a possibility or are we going to turn this into a disaster? We are going to determine that in the next ten to fifteen years. And every human being who breathes on this land has to participate in making this happen in whichever way he can do. That is my vision: to draw as many people as possible to actively participate in this, in whichever way possible because if this time passes, it may be too late. If you sit on the threshold for too long, you will be run over by someone else. Contributed by L&D Cell at MIAL SPIRITUAL TALK 15

GVK CSIA s Comforting Angels SHOWCASE T he Golden Retrievers named Goldie, Pepe and Sunshine are a common sight at GVK CSIA thse days. Also known as Comforting Angels, they roam up and down the boarding gates, thus giving an opportunity to the first time travellers, who have an anxiety of flying, are unwell or are facing personal problems, to de-stress and unwind themselves. The embarking international and domestic travellers may avail this service between 7.30pm-11.30pm and 5pm-7pm respectively, three days a week from Friday to Sunday. This service commenced at the International departures last year on 26 September. After an overwhelming response from the travellers at the International departures, MIAL recently commenced the service for travellers at the domestic departures from 6 June. 16 Comfort dogs are essentially therapy dogs that are trained to work with humans with different needs. Their role is to interact with the people and comfort them. The rationale behind why people feel good after interacting with dogs is that when we pet an animal, the softness of the fur against our hand and the lively interaction of the dog stimulate the release of oxytocin in our brain. Oxytocin is our feel good hormone which helps reducing stress. These hormonal changes help people who are stressed or nervous to feel relaxed instantaneously. Feedback from the travellers Animals are God sent. As you rightly called them Angels. After standing in the queue for over an hour, this was indeed comforting. Great concept- GVK always surprises! Karishma Thakur I think this is the sweetest thing to happen at the airport! Loved meeting Pepe and Sunshine! So happy and charged up before the travel! Manjari Fadnis Animal therapy is an amazing way to brighten anyone s day! So glad to see it in India at an airport! Much appreciated. Aleena Ross
