Summer 2017 IRISH NIGHT / CORNED BEEF FEED 2017 On March 3 rd 2017 we celebrated the Irish heritage everyone claims to have on St. Patrick s Day. As usual, Dan and Rob chaired the event and with the help of many, the evening was a great success. The luck of the Irish fell upon us in the form of Doug (Grand President), Gary & Bill from Washington, a bagpiper, and members of Novato s finest. The following day we hosted Doug, Gary & Bill, giving them a tour of West Marin, including Hunter s ranch, lunch at Rancho Nacasio, and the Marin French Cheese Company.

13 th Annual Dispatcher Appreciation Dinner On Wednesday, April 12 th we partnered with San Rafael Elks Lodge #1108 to honor our local dispatchers. Each dispatcher received a free dinner, drink and a ticket for the first 10 prizes in the pot of gold. They were also able to bring a guest for $10. A great night was had by all. The Elks cooked up a feast which started with awesome hors d'oeuvres and was followed by a dinner buffet that ranged from slow roasted beef to paella. The Novato Police Explorers helped serve the buffet and bus the tables. The pot of gold table was filled with great prizes and we tried to make sure every dispatcher went home with a prize.

On April 25 th, Rob, Hunter, Dan, Kevin and Rick attended a training session of the Novato Police Explorers. At the session, we presented the Explorers with a check for $400.00 for helping with the Dispatcher Dinner. We informed them that the Elks were going to be sending them a check for $500.00. And we delivered a donation check from Hennessy Funds for $900.00 which matched the Elks and our donation. This gave the Explorers a total of $1800.00. They plan to use the money to attend an upcoming Police Explorer Competition. We wish them all the best and hope they win. 88 th Grand Convention - June 22 to 25 Rob Wallace (Chapter President), Linda Brennan (Chapter Secretary), Mark Momboisse (Grand Historian) and Rick O Brien (Grand Director) attended the 88 th Grand Convention in Seattle, WA. The Keystone Kops brought their Paddy Wagon and we toured Seattle on a Duck Boat. We all had a great time. We congratulate Doug Partlow for a great year as Grand President and wish Mike Leary all the best as he takes over the helm.

Dan Hanlon (our Treasurer and past Grand President) made the trek up to Carson City Chapter 73 on Thursday, August 17, 2017 for their monthly dinner meeting. There he saw Archie Marcum (our District Governor) and his wife, Jill. The guest speaker was John Ascuaga, who founded the Nugget hotel/casinos in Nevada. He is 93yrs old and going strong, A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She reduced altitude and spotted a man below. She descended a bit more and shouted: "'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am". The man below replied "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude". "You must be a technician." said the balloonist. "I am" replied the man "how did you know?" "Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you have told me is probably technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information and the fact is, I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip with your talk." The man below responded, "You must be in management". "I am" replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?" "Well," said the man "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault! www.ifa15.com
