THE AQUACLEAN SYSTEM Advanced Pure Water Technology CHAPTER 1 Assembly Instructions The Aquaclean Pole is shipped in two (2) packages. Contents in the Cardboard Transportation Tube include the following: One (1) Aquaclean Pole with hose(s) attached Caution: when removing pole from tube, do not pull on the hoses when removing. Included in the smaller box is the following: One (1) 12 Brush (std), Aluminum Head Assembly One (1) Stainless Steel Gooseneck One (1) Rinse Bracket and Spray Nozzle (dual hose pole only) Either Single or Dual Garden Hose Assembly STEPS TO POLE ASSEMBLY STEP 1: Attaching the head assembly to the pole When attaching the gooseneck to the pole, the first step is to attach the hose insert into the female brass pushlock fitting on the gooseneck. Make sure that the nut on the gooseneck is screwed up on the thread as far as possible and that the star washer is between the nut and the aluminum cap. Completely screw the gooseneck into the aluminum cap so that the nut can only be tightened at half a turn. Once the gooseneck is in proper position, (if dual hose is pointing away from the rinse hose), secure by tightening the lock nut. STEP 2: Attaching the gooseneck to the head assembly To connect the gooseneck to the head assembly, screw the gooseneck (longest side) into the head assembly. Threads on the gooseneck should be wrapped with plumber s tape to prevent leaking. The nut should only be ½ from the end of the gooseneck. Additional threading will cause the water not to flow to the brush. Make sure that the star washer is between the nut and head assembly. Secure by tightening the lock nut. Attach the rinse hose to the rinse bracket for a dual hose system. It is easier to attach the gooseneck to the head assembly without the brush. STEP 3: Attaching the brush to the head assembly To connect the brush to the head assembly, insert the brush screws with the washer through the brush hairs and tighten using a socket wrench. Threads on brush screws should be wrapped with plumbers tape to prevent leaking. 3

CHAPTER 1 Assembly Instructions STEPS TO POLE ASSEMBLY (continued) STEP 4: Attach female hose couplings to the hose assembly Take pliers and tighten connection to prevent leaks. It does not matter which hose from the pole is connected to male fitting on the hose assembly. Once in operation, one valve will control the water through the brush and one valve will control the rinse spray (dual hose system only, valve not included on Single Hose System.) Attach a garden hose (not included) to the hose assembly. 4

THE AQUACLEAN SYSTEM Advanced Pure Water Technology CHAPTER 2 Operation Instructions ABS Clamps The Aqua Clean clamps are made of ABS plastic and may be adjusted to fit your needs. The square nut on the top of the clamp is a reverse thread, and shows arrows on the nut to loosen or tighten. The nut controls the tightness of the lever that secures one pole to the other. To tighten the clamp, pull the lever down. To loosen or tighten the clamp, you must have the lever in the upward position (loose position), and turn the square nut in the desired direction (+ to tighten, - to loosen). If the clamp is too tight so that the lever does not freely push down, loosen the nut. You may also secure the lever by pushing past the small ridge of the clamp. This should be done when working through trees and with large sills, but is not required on standard window cleaning. In the loose position, telescoping the pole may be difficult. You may loosen the bottom bolt. Loosen the bottom bolt with a small allen wrench to make it easier to extend or retract. In the locked position, a pole section is slipping right or left. Tightening the bolt will secure it so that there is no slipping. Raising the Pole Option 1 Four and six foot sections. Lean the pole against the building and slide the smallest sections up the window. There is a positive lock on each section, so you can t over extend each section. Secure by lowering the ABS clamp lever. Continue till you reach the proper height. Pole should reach about one foot on window. When using the pole, the height increases since the washing is done at hip level. This will give the best range of motion. Option 2 - Eight foot sections. Extend the pole on the ground and walk up the pole like a ladder. Perpendicular the pole to the building with the largest section next to the building. Be sure to secure the butt section (largest section) against the building when lifting or have a second person step securely on the butt section. Adjust height as needed. Option 3 Twelve foot sections. From the top of the building or highest window drop a rope (rope not included) over the edge that is long enough to reach the ground. Extend the pole on the ground and secure a rope to the head assembly. The pole should be parallel to the building with the brush end beneath the rope. Pull the rope up which lifts the Top Pole. Leave the assist cord on the brush head assembly to assist in moving the pole, and for lowering to drop to the next level. Washing the Window Washing should be done in an up and down motion. Extra strokes should be done around the outside of the window and in the corners. If there are bird droppings baked on the window, let the pure water sit on the area for about a minute, and it should wash off easily. For extra dirty windows, rub some degreaser dish soap on the brush and raise to the window and use up and down motion. NOTE: Since Pure Water is very aggressive to dirt, detergent is seldom needed. If you use detergent, use a small amount and rinse thoroughly. 5

CHAPTER 2 Operation Instructions Rinsing the Window Rinse the outside of the window and corners. Rinsing is done by a slow side-to-side motion from the top of the window down. A sheeting action should occur at the window. Extra water should be used on the corners and lower edge. Allow the surface to dry above before cleaning the window below the one just cleaned so no spotting or streaking occurs from the runoff. On glass buildings you can do the one below or work at the same height around the area and lower the next level. NOTE: The top level in fascia should be completely dry before starting the lower level. It is highly critical that you should always rinse slowly from the top to the bottom of the glass. DANGER: Do NOT allow contact with ELECTRIC WIRES. Fiber Glass end section reduces the risk of electrocution. 6

What is Pure Water? THE AQUACLEAN SYSTEM Advanced Pure Water Technology CHAPTER 3 Frequently Asked Questions We know water as H 2 O. When checking for what is in the water, we look for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Ground water is almost never pure because the molecules in water are unstable and easily diluted with almost all minerals. Hard Water, has calcium carbonate and other minerals dissolved in it. When there is spotting or streaking on a pane of glass, a white chalky substance is left on the window pane. These are the minerals that were dissolved in the water, and left after the water evaporates. Pure Water will not leave spotting or streaking, since there are no minerals in the water. Where can I get Pure Water? Finding pure water today, is almost impossible to find in your water supply. There are different processes that will make pure water. One is Distilled Water, which is boiling the water and condensing the steam. Making pure water in a de-ionization tank is another alternative. This works when ions exchange unwanted ions from the tap water by transferring them to a solid material. A de-ionization tank is a mixed bed of resins with both positively and negatively charged resin beads. All particles in the water have either a positive or a negative charge, and with a de-ionization tank, these are removed from the water source. The best comparison is that the resin beads are magnets and the minerals in the water are attracted to the positive or negative ends of the magnet. The time between regeneration of the DI tank depends on the TDS in the water. The more TDS, the less gallons of Pure Water is made before regeneration is required. The main obstacle with DI tanks is regenerating the tank, once the media is saturated with particles. The tank must be sent to a regeneration facility to remove the particles and recharge the resin beads. In some parts of the world, it is easily accessible; in other areas it is expensive and also prohibitive by transportation. Reverse Osmosis (RO) is another process to lower the TDS in the water. RO separates the water into two streams; one stream has reduced particles and the other stream increased particle content. RO membranes can remove 92-95% of the TDS in the water. The advanced technology of the Aqua Clean System by Ettore uses both Reverse Osmosis and also a De-ionization Cartridge. Do I need to chemicals to clean the glass? In normal cleaning maintenance, water will clean approximately 98% of all substances on the window, including bird droppings. Water alone will not remove hard water stains on the glass. Pure Water, however, will remove all of these substances just as if you were using a squeegee and soap mixture. Pure water is also environmentally friendly, and will not damage plants or man made objects. 7

CHAPTER 3 Frequently Asked Questions What if I want to use chemicals due to very dirty windows? The easiest way to apply a chemical in a water solution is using the Ettore Inline Dema Injector Assembly. This uses a venturi device that will mix the solution with water and deliver it through the brush. If there are only a few windows that need chemicals, we suggest using a small amount of liquid dish soap applied directly to the brush and brush in. What size brushes do you have? The Aqua Clean Pole brush comes standard with a 12 inch brush. An optional 18 inch is also available. Brushes are double trimmed, so they fan into the corners of the window, and the brush back is made of durable PVC materials with rounded edges. The brush s universal head assembly attaches to a 9 stainless steel gooseneck. Why do you have a single hose and a double hose system? The single hose pole uses water through the brush only. Many window cleaners prefer this method, but you have to tilt the brush when rinsing, so the brushes doesn t touch the glass above the water. The dual hose can be used only through the brush, through the spray nozzle, or both. There are heavyduty valves at the end of the hose assembly to control where the water is delivered. The main reason for the dual hose is if you have windows that are apart from each other. The water flows through the brush to get the corners of the window wet, without over spraying on the buildings fascia. If the building fascia does get wet, it may drop unpure water back on the window causing streaking. After you wash the window and frame, you then rinse the window and frame with the spray nozzle. With a full fascia of glass, you can use just the spray nozzle, conserving the water and wash and rinse with the same setting. My clamps are loose or to tight, what do I do? The Aqua Clean clamps are made of ABS plastic. They can be adjusted to fit your needs. The square nut on the top of the clamp is a reverse thread, and shows arrows on the nut to loosen or tighten. The nut controls the tightness of the lever that secures one pole to the other. To tighten the clamp, pull the lever down. To change the clamp to make it looser or tighter, you must have the lever in the upward position (loose position), and turn the square nut in the direction (+ to tighter, - to loosen. If the clamp is too tight so that the lever does not freely push down, loosen the nut. You can also secure the lever by pushing past the small ridge of the clamp. This should be done when working through trees and with large sills, but is not required on standard window cleaning. If in the loose position, telescoping the pole is difficult, you can loosen the bottom bolt with a small allen wrench, to make it easier to extend or retract. If in the locked position a pole section is slipping right or left, tightening the bolt will secure it so there is no slipping. 8

How do I raise the Aqua Clean Pole? CHAPTER 3 Frequently Asked Questions Option 1 Four and six foot sections. Lean the pole against the building and slide the smallest sections up the window. There is a positive lock on each section, so you can t over extend each section. Secure by lowering the ABS clamp lever. While the brush is resting on the window, lift the brush higher on the building and pole the next section down. Secure with the ABS clamp lever, and continue till you reach the required height. Pole should reach about three feet from the top of the window. When using the pole, the height increases since the washing is done at hip level. This will give the best range of motion. It is easier to lower the pole to the next level than stepping back. The proper angle from the building is around 15 to 20 degrees. The farther you are from the building the more work your arms must do. This is a two-person operation. From the top of the building or the highest window, drop a rope over the edge to the ground. Measure the length of the rope and lengthen the Aqua Clean pole accordingly. NOTE: Subtract three feet when extending it to the correct height, this allows for the height of yourself when using the pole. Secure the rope (not included) to the head assembly with a fishermen s knot at the rinse bracket. The pole should be parallel to the building with the brush end beneath the rope. Pull the rope up from above which will lift the pole. Leave the assist cord on the brush head assembly to assist in moving the pole, and for lowering to drop the pole to the next height. How do I wash the window? Washing is done by using a down and up motion. Extra strokes should be done around the frame the outside of the window and in the corners. If there are bird droppings baked on the window, let the pure water sit on the area for about a minute, and then it should wash off easily. For extra dirty windows, rub some degreaser dish soap on the brush and raise to window. Use up and down motion when scrubbing. Since, pure water is very aggressive to dirt, detergent is seldom needed. If you use detergent, use a very small amount. How do I rinse the window? Rinse the outside of the window and corners. Rinsing is done by a side-to-side motion from the top of the window down. Always keep the rinse water above your brush, if your brush touches a rinsed area, dirt on the brush could attach to window. A sheeting action should occur at the window. Extra water should be used on the corners and lower edge. Allow the surface to dry, before doing the window below the one just cleaned so no run off of the building occurs. If doing glass buildings you can do the one below or work at the same height around the area and lower the next level. You should always wash from the top to the bottom of the building. How do I move the Aqua Clean Pole from one window to the next? There are two different ways to move the pole from window to window. If the distance is short, you can twist the pole and walk the pole to the next window. This is the easiest, and you do not have to pull the pole off the building. 9

CHAPTER 3 Frequently Asked Questions The second way is lifting the pole off the window and walking it to the next window. NOTE: Do not dead lift the pole by using your arms and back, but rather use the Pole as a Lever. Raise your top hand to the highest point on the bottom section you can reach. Push down on the bottom part of the same section, and use your arms as a lever. What type of windows will give me bad results with the Aqua Clean System? The Aqua Clean pole will deliver poor results if you use it to clean windows with rough wood frames. The wood will absorb the spot-free rinse water and slowly release it as dirty water after you have washed and rinsed the window, leaving spots or streaks. Use an Ettore squeegee for these. When cleaning stacked plate glass with aluminum frames, wash and rinse them from top to bottom leaving some time between levels for rinse water to dry. Make sure you brush the frames as much you brush the windows, or else a dirty frame on an upper level will streak a lower-level window. You may also get poor results on older windows. This is either because the seals have broken or there is a lot of oxidation on the aluminum frames that have embedded in the glass. For better results on older windows, use an Ettore Squeegee. Finally, you should NEVER use the Aqua Clean System on windows that need extensive scraping or near electricity. Examples would be post-construction clean up or stage 1 corrosion. For finely painted wood windows, such as good-quality wooden French windows and doors, the Aqua Clean Pole delivers great results. You can clean all ground level French windows with the 10 foot model in less than half the time it would take you to wand, squeegee, and rag each pane. 10

THE AQUACLEAN SYSTEM Advanced Pure Water Technology CHAPTER 4 Replacing the #1 Section on the Aquaclean Pole Dual hose units with hose attached to gooseneck and fan spray assembly. 1. Remove existing hose by cutting the hose that connects to the fan spray. Loosen lock nut and remove gooseneck. Remove existing hose by removing the plastic pushlock from brass pushlock. The easiest way is to insert a screwdriver on the green ring and push down while pulling hose. Cut the hose below the plastic hose barb. Pull the hoses out from the bottom of the unit (largest section). 1. Loosen the hex nut on the clamp of the #2 section, reverse thread, and remove. With small allen wrench remove dome headed bolt and nut. 2. With a small screwdriver, carefully insert in the gap and twist the screwdriver so that the clamp opens. Slide the clamp off the #2 section. 3. Remove #1 section. 4. Replace with new section Do steps 2 then 1. 5. From the top, smallest section, slide one hose into rinse hole till it reaches the bottom section. With the small screwdriver, grab hose and pull hose out, about 14-16 out. At the end of the hose going into the rinse hole, make a knot so the hose doesn t go into the #1 section. 6. Feed the hose hose that connects to the gooseneck into the aluminum cap on the #1 section. Make sure the hose wedges into the rinse bracket hose. Then, pull rinse bracket hose from bottom section (largest), and both hoses will pull out. You may have to fish the gooseneck hose out at the bottom with a small screwdriver. 7. Attach the plastic hose barb with the male push lock to the hose. 8. Attach the head assembly to the pole. When attaching the gooseneck to the pole, the first step is to attach the hose insert into the female brass pushlock fitting on gooseneck. Make sure that the nut on the gooseneck is screwed up on the thread as far as possible and that the star washer is between the nut and the aluminum cap. Completely screw the gooseneck into the aluminum cap so that the nut can only be tightened at half a turn. Once the gooseneck is in proper position (if dual hose, pointing away from the rinse hose), secure by tightening the lock nut. 9. Attach the gooseneck to the head assembly. To connect the gooseneck to the head assembly, screw the gooseneck (longest side) into the head assembly. Threads on the gooseneck should be wrapped with plumber s tape to prevent leaking. The nut should be only ½ from the end of the gooseneck. Additional threading will cause the water not to flow to the brush. Make sure that the star washer is between the nut and the head assembly. Secure by tightening the lock nut. Attach the rinse hose to the rinse bracket for a dual hose system. It is easier to attach the gooseneck to the head assembly without the brush. 11

CHAPTER 4 Replacing the #1 Section on the Aquaclean Pole 10. Attaching the brush to the head assembly. To connect the brush to the head assembly, insert brush screws with washer through brush hairs and tighten using a socket wrench. Threads on brush screws should be wrapped with plumbers tape to prevent leaking. 11. Attach rinse hose to hose barb on fan spray. Use a drop of soap for easier installation. 12. Attach female hose couplings to the hose assembly. Take pliers and tighten connection to prevent leaks. It does not matter which hose from the pole is connected to male fitting on the hose assembly. Once in operation, one valve will control the water through the brush and one valve will control the rinse spray (dual hose system only, valve not included on Single Hose System.) Attach garden hose (not included) to hose assembly. Replacement complete For replacing other sections, do Steps 2 through 5 REPLACING THE SINGLE HOSE ON YOUR AQUACLEAN POLE Single hose units with hose attached to the gooseneck. 1. Remove existing hose by removing the plastic pushlock from brass pushlock. The easiest way is to insert a screwdriver on the green ring and push down while pulling hose. Cut the hose below the hose barb on the gooseneck and pulling the hose out from the bottom of the unit (largest section). 2. Locate the end of the replacement hose that DOES NOT have the metal hose barb fitting attached. 3. Feed the hose that does not have the connector into the gooseneck opening. The single hose that is sticking out of the top section (smallest section) connects to the male plastic push lock fitting. Firmly attach to brass female fitting and test by pulling the hose. Pull hose from the bottom so that gooseneck slides into the aluminum cap. Secure the gooseneck in the top of the pole by threading the gooseneck on and tighten the hex nut. Make sure that the star washer is between the aluminum cap and gooseneck, threaded on as far as it will go in the aluminum cap and then tighten the hex nut a corner turn. Lock Tight is recommended. 4. The remaining hose is now on the bottom end (butt end) of the pole. For best results put two drops of dish washing detergent on the hose barb, which allows the insert to be pushed in easier to the hose. Slide the spring fitting and o-ring clamp on hose and then firmly grab the hose and press into the hose barb. For best results place assembly on a hard surface with the hose barb pointing up. Push so that the hose covers at least four of the barbs. Spring fitting should be about ¼ from the bottom of the hose barb, secure placing o-ring clamp over spring and pinching each end of the o-ring clamp so spring is secure. The spring reduces the wear and tear of dragging the hose on the ground. Hose replacement complete. 12

Chapter 4 Repair Instructions REPLACING THE DUAL HOSES ON YOUR AQUACLEAN POLE Dual hose units with hose attached to gooseneck and fan spray assembly. Remove existing hose by cutting the hose that connects to the fan spray. Loosen lock nut and remove gooseneck. Remove existing hose by removing the plastic pushlock from brass pushlock. The easiest way is to insert a screwdriver on the green ring and push down while pulling the hose. Cut the hose below the plastic hose. Pull the hoses out from the bottom of the unit (largest section). Installing the new hoses 1. Feed the rinse hose through the slot on the number one section (smallest) where it will be connected to the hose bar on the rinse bracket. Once the hose has been threaded through the last section, and is visible at the butt section, feed the brush hose through the threaded end cap (#1 section), until it comes in contact with the rinse hose. By pulling on the rinse hose, at the butt ring, both hoses will feed through the sections. It is easier to have a second person assisting at the #1 section guiding the brush hose through the threaded cap. Continue to feed the hoses through the pole until only 7 to 9 inches remain (enough to reach and connect the hose to the brass hose barb on the fan spray assembly). For the brush hose at the end, connect the plastic hose barb. 2. Attach the head assembly to the pole. When attaching the gooseneck to the pole, the first step is to attach the hose insert into the female brass pushlock fitting on the gooseneck. Make sure that the nut on the gooseneck is screwed up on the thread as far as possible and that the star washer is between the nut and aluminum cap. Completely screw the gooseneck into the aluminum cap so that the nut can only be tightened at half a turn.) Once the gooseneck is in proper position (if dual hose, pointing away from the rinse hose), secure by tightening the lock nut. 3. Attach the gooseneck to the head assembly. To connect the gooseneck to the head assembly, screw gooseneck (longest side) into the head assembly. Threads on gooseneck should be wrapped with plumber s tape to prevent leaking. The nut should only be ½ from the end of the gooseneck. Additional threading will cause the water not to flow to the brush. Make sure that the star washer is between the nut and head assembly. Secure by tightening the lock nut. Attach rinse hose to rinse bracket for a dual hose system. It is easier to attach the gooseneck to the head assembly without the brush. 4. Attach the brush to the head assembly. To connect the brush to the head assembly, insert brush screws with washer through brush hairs and tighten using a socket wrench. Threads on brush screws should be wrapped with plumbers tape to prevent leaking. 5. Attach the rinse hose to the hose barb on fan spray. Use a drop of soap for easier installation. 13

Chapter 4 Repair Instructions 6. Attach female hose couplings to the hose assembly. Take pliers and tighten connection to prevent leaks. It does not matter which hose from the pole is connected to male fitting on the hose assembly.
