Vol IV Issue XII December 2016 GVK Lounge adjudged World s Leading First Class Airport Lounge at the World Travel Awards 2016 The GVK Lounge at CSIA, Mumbai has bagged the World s Leading First Class Airport Lounge at the 23 rd edition of the World Travel Awards 2016. The GVK Lounge earned the winning spot for the Best First Class Airport Lounge in the world, along with the spot for Asia s Leading Airport Lounge, both for the second time, having previously bagged the awards in 2015. Operated by Travel Food Services (TFS) and Performa, the GVK Lounge has also been consistently nominated for the award in the Business Class category for the past two years, standing out among some of the finest airport and airline lounges. The results were based on a year-long online global voting process wherein qualified executives from the sector as well as end consumers participate to help their favourite destinations win the most desired accolade in the travel industry. GVK KIAB records highest growth in India this year GVK KIAB (Departures) GVK KIAB recorded the largest growth in passenger and cargo traffic from the period January till September this year. In terms of passenger traffic, the airport recorded a 22.4% growth and in terms of international passenger traffic, it recorded the highest growth at 11.7% that translated to 1.8 million passengers. Also, in terms of cargo traffic, GVK KIAB is the only metro airport to have recorded a double digit growth at 10.8%. Hawk Eyed at GVK CSIA! GVK AIRPORTS GVK CSIA welcomed the Hawk T1 aircraft of the Red Arrows, the renowned aerobatics display team of the Royal Air Force. The red aircraft were the show stoppers at the runway. The Red Arrows fly the famous Hawk jets, a British single-engine jetpowered advanced trainer aircraft. The Hawk has become a symbol of not just British excellence but also Indian manufacturing and technical development. They are a key symbol of the India- UK partnership, especially under the Make in India project. Children from NGOs enjoying at GVK CSIA MIAL unveils new Export Heavy and Bonded Cargo Terminal MIAL launched a first-of-its-kind cargo terminal in India for bonded and heavy goods. The new export facility, along with offering exclusive handling for export heavy, odd-sized and bonded consignments, would double MIAL s export handling capacity by adding 5,00,000 tonnes of cargo per annum. Spread over 7500 sq meters, the state-of-the-art facility will provide a one-stop solution for bonded cargo handling with dedicated channel for cargo admittance, X-ray screening and palletization. The new process management deployed, along with doubling the current export capacity, will reduce the dwell time by 50%. GVK ENERGY Shrinagar HEP generates over 1175 million units of electricity The GVK Alaknanda Hydropower Company Ltd has generated and transmitted over 1175 million units of electricity since April 2016. Having commenced commercial operations in April last year, this 330 MW hydro power project is located on the river Alaknanda in Tehri/Pauri Garhwal District of Uttarakhand.
Gemba High Tea The associates at Taj Deccan came together for an event Gemba, a Japanese term which means the real place and a place where continuous improvement is done. The term is also used to describe personal observation of work. The associates were divided into four teams of 8-10 members and assigned different areas like parking, store, laundry etc. At the end of the session, the teams bonded over high tea and shared their experiences. GVK EMRI GVK EMRI-Tamil Nadu associates honoured by Grass Roots The associates at GVK EMRI-Tamil Nadu were honoured by an NGO, Grass Roots, for their selfless service towards saving precious lives. They were presented with a special memento and also launched the NGO s mobile app. GVK EMRI s EMT Mr Nityanandam, Pilot Mr K Selvakumar and EMT Ms Vijitha Good Samaritans felicitated GVK EMRI-Tamil Nadu felicitated 27 Good Samaritans at a function conducted by GVK EMRI in Coimbatore. These people saved the lives of the citizens by timely calling the ambulance service during the emergency. The police department appreciated their contribution and requested more people to come forward and help people in distress.
