Learn how the Von Trapp family settled in Stowe, VT on an enchanted farm with sweeping mountain views reminiscent of their beloved Austria 10:20 am Depart for Burlington VT for lunch cruise on the Spirit of Ethan Allan III. 11:20 am Climb aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen III, a 434-passenger cruise ship sailing on Lake Champlain. Enjoy a buffet lunch and listen to the Captain s narration of the region s rich history, witness spectacular panoramas and search for Champ, the lake s friendly monster. 1:30 pm Depart for the Shelburne Museum where you will discover treasures from America s past. The Museum is described as one of the world s great museums of American folk art, artifacts and architecture. 4:00 pm Depart the Museum and travel to the Lake Morey Resort, your home for the next two nights. The resort is nestled in the Vermont hills above the Connecticut River, where the natural beauty immediately draws you in. This 100 year-old resort offers an exceedingly high level of hospitality. 6:00 pm Welcome reception and orientation to the resort followed by included Dinner is served in the Main Dining Room that affords breathtaking views of the surroundings. The Executive Chef prides himself in using the freshest, local ingredients as he prepares his creative American cuisine. After dinner you may visit the Steamboat Lounge for a nightcap or watch a classic movie shown in the resort s in-house theater. Day 4 - Wednesday, October 5 Start your day with an included buffet breakfast served at the resort. There will be time to debark the coach and to take photos. 9:15 am Board the coach and travel to Squam Lake, 10: 30 am Board a canopied pontoon boat and sail off on a fascinating and picturesque 50-minute cruise. (Open boats so dress appropriately). Covering 6,791 acres, Squam is the secondlargest lake located entirely in New Hampshire and is where the 1981 movie On Golden Pond was filmed. Learn about the natural forces that created these lakes, the wildlife that makes it so special and the people who have enjoyed these lakes for over 5,000 years. 12:00 Noon Lunch on your own at Walter s Basin. It is a locals favorite and is located adjacent to the boat s dock. 1:00 pm Depart for the Castle in the Clouds 1:30 pm Arrive at an exquisite New Hampshire country estate that was built in 1913 by Thomas Plant, who made his fortune in the shoe manufacturing industry. The mountaintop property offers breathtaking views of Lake Winnipesauke and 1,000 feet of waterfalls and walking trails. You will quickly learn why this is called Castle in the Clouds. 3:30 pm Depart for The Old Country Store and Museum. The store is among the oldest in the country and also one of the oldest surviving businesses of any kind. It has been the scene of town meetings in the early 1800 s, the town s library, the post office and a stage stop. 4:30 pm Depart the Old Country Store & travel back to Lake Morey Resort. 6:00 pm Dinner included in the Resort s dining room. The highway is well known as one of the best fall foliage viewing areas in the country and is designated an American Scenic Byway for its rich history, aesthetic beauty and culture. There will be time for photo ops along the way. 10:15 am Arrive in North Conway and board the Conway Scenic Rail. Enjoy an old-fashioned railroading experience as you journey on historic rail routes in vintage passenger cars (most from the 1920s). On this excursion, you will travel south past the Moat Mountain Range and cross the Moat Brook, the Saco and Swift Rivers on the way to Conway. 11:30 am. Train ride ends. There will be time have lunch on your own in one of the many eateries in North Conway. 1:00 pm Board the coach and travel to Franconia Notch State Park. Along the route, you will pass Mt. Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern US. Located in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest, Franconia Notch is a spectacular mountain pass traversed by a unique parkway. Take in the scenery that includes a beautiful lake situated right at the base of the granite cliffs. There will be time to
walk on the gentle paths, to visit the museum in tribute to The Old Man in the Mountain or to take an optional tram ride up Cannon Mountain. 3:30 pm Depart Franconia Notch State Park and travel back to the Lake Morey Resort to drop guide.
