I hope to see many of you there. Please bring along friends who might be interested in joining our club. We re always excited to have new members. This will be the first opportunity for you to see the great ski trips that we have lined up for this coming season. Speaking of this coming season, our new VP, Donna Scott, has been working on presenters for General Meetings. She has some exciting ideas for speakers so you ll want to put the first Thursday of every month (October through May) on your calendar so you don t miss any of them. Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts! Monica THANKYOU TUESDAY HIKERS 2016 The Tuesday hikes were again a great success! There were 10 to 25 participants every Tuesday. We were rained out twice. The July rainout turned into a party when Ellie B. invited us to her house for a great potluck and social hour. I just want Thank all the leaders for making Tuesday hikes another bumper year. The potlucks were outstanding!! Pat Irwin Third THURSDAY HIKERS Third Thursday Hike - September 15 th Arapaho Glacier Trail #905 Time to check out the autumn colors, the best place to do it, Arapaho Glacier Trail from the Rainbow Lakes TH. TH is at 10,000 +, tree line in 2 miles at 10,500 + overlooking the City of Boulder Watershed lakes. The trail continues to the Glacier Overlook at 6 miles. Everything in between is spectacular viewing. Meet at 7:45a at Meadows Mall to arrange car pools Afainer@yahoo.com RSVP.

Let's Play Games! Fun & Games at Sandy Morris' house on October 23rd from 2-5 p.m. Location: 1283 Graham Circle, Erie 80516. Bring an appetizer and your beverage. RSVP to Sandy at swimmie864@hotmail.com or 303-955-4910. Thursday Hikers It has been a good summer for hiking with a lot of wild flowers and a lot of FSC hikers. In September, we should continue to enjoy summer weather with the occasional hints of the coming fall. We will usually be hiking in the higher mountains so come prepared for all kinds of weather conditions. Be sure to bring water, lunch, and extra food. Call Connie Macinko at 303-443-6572. We meet at Meadows Shopping Center located at Baseline and Foothills. You will find us in the southeast corner of the parking lot close to the frontage road and 24 Hour Fitness. Please arrive by 7:45am so that we can decide where we are going and form car pools. We leave promptly at 8:00 am. Great Hut Trips 2016 Twenty eight Flatirons Ski Club members had a fantastic time at the Ben Eiseman Hut this August. 16 participants filled the hut on the 1 st trip. 12 more members went on the 2 nd trip the following week. Road construction in Vail made the meeting in Vail and the convoy up to the hut road more complex. Most of the group hiked the last 5 miles up the 4WD road to the hut. Several with physical problems that limited their hiking rode up in the 4WD vehicles carrying all the gear and food. As with all the huts that the club uses due to all the rain these past years the 4WD road was found to be much rougher for the vehicles. Thanks goes to the drivers. The group enjoyed the facilities at the 10 th Mountain Division Hut. As on past trips first timers found that the hut nomenclature is the wrong term. The lodge has solar lights, propane stoves, large picture windows, mattresses, pillows, padded couches and large eating tables with chairs. There was conversation, reading and games all the time in the common room. The weather during the trips was fine. The predicted rain showers did not affect the hikes and only occurred when the groups were warm and cozy in the hut. Several of the sunsets were a sight to behold. The ski runs of Vail and Beaver Creek were visible from the hut as well as trail viewpoints. Most of the group members hiked to a ridge above timberline to view the peaks of the Gore Range. There were large fields of wild flowers to enjoy. The 1 st trip was awed with a meteor shower during the night and the 2 nd trip enjoyed a brilliant full moon. Special thanks should go to members who volunteered to plan and purchase food for the meals. The attendees ate much better than at home. All of the groups helped prepare the food, wash dishes and clean the cabin. A hut trip is not to be missed. All of the members are already looking forward to next summer s hut trip.

PROPOSED PARK CITY SKI TRIP MON, JAN 2 nd to FRI, JAN 6 th Leader: Lois Bennett (301-875-1716) Park City offers excellent skiing at the Park City/Canyonlands resorts which are connected by a gondola, and are covered by the Epic Local Pass. Epic pass-holders can also help others buy discounted lift tickets. The Park City area offers a wide selection of dining, shopping, and sightseeing opportunities, including the excellent Park City Historical Museum, and the Olympic Training Center. We propose to rent in the same condo complex as last year, Payday Condominiums, which are located one-half mile from the base and plaza area of the Park City Mountain Resort. The bus stop for the free city transportation system is right across the street, and at day s end, you can ski down to the Silver Star Lift, also across the street. Amenities include access to an outdoor heated swimming pool, community outdoor hot tub and sauna. The unit we plan to rent has its own hot tub, a fully-equipped kitchen with dining room, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. Living room area has a flat screen TV and fireplace. Bedding consists of two king-sized beds in the master & second bedroom, two twin beds in the third bedroom and two twin beds in the loft. Total cost for 4 nights lodging is $490, assuming one person per bed (6). Cost will be adjusted if we get some couples, or two folks willing to share a king. People can carpool to Park City, or fly into Salt Lake City. Call me if you need assistance with transportation coordination. Due to the requirement for a ½ non-refundable deposit, the individual deposit for this trip will be $245, and we cannot actually book until we receive everyone s deposit. If we get additional people wanting to come, then we can book an additional unit. So be ready at the October trip sign-up meeting with your deposit check in hand. Give your check to me, Lois Bennett, and remember to make it out to Flatirons Ski Club with Park City written on the memo line. Let s go to Grand Lake in the Summer of 2017! Includes: Two Nights at the Grand Lake Lodge. Cost for two nights with buffet breakfasts is approximately $165 Optional activities include: white water rafting, boating (canoe, kayak, pontoon), the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre show. Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park (Some activities will cost extra) Contact info: Sandy Morris, Home: 303-955-4910, E-mail: swimmie864@hotmail.com
