Editor s Corner April 2012 Page 2 Welcome to the New Western Outlook As you know, Marilyn Scott has been the editor of the Western Outlook for the past 10 years. When she decided to pass on the job of editor, I thought I would volunteer to take on the assignment. She leaves some mighty big shoes to fill, but I will do my best. I m Rick Hawkins the new editor. I ve been a member of the SDC for the past eight years. Along with my wife, Sue Bordwell, we own three Studebakers. We enjoy attending car shows and other functions with the Conestoga Chapter. In the future, a page called, Studebaker Of The Month, will appear. This will be a place for members to display their Studebaker in the Western Outlook. Just e-mail me a few pictures and some history of your Studebaker, and I will print it in the newsletter. This will be a way for all members to not only know you, but also know your Studebaker. A page called, Studebaker Project Car, will also appear. This will be a way for members to view your Studebaker restoration (past or present). E-mail a few pictures and some information about your Studebaker restoration. Our new e-mail address is WesternOutlook@aol.com. Please send any information, pictures, or suggestions to this address. Hope to hear from you soon. Rick Hawkins Editor

Chapter News April 2012 Page 3 Western Wheels The western Wheels Chapter met March 10th at the Elks Club in Scottsbluff, hosted by Dallas and Lucille Whiting. Members present included, Harry, Bonita and Charlene Case, Marry Miller, Stuart Tritt, Gene Sell, Wanda Mowrey, Perry, Jaquie and Corina Meyers, Don and Betty Steinwart and Dallas and Lucille Whiting. Special Guest was Betty Madison. After dinner, President Dallas Whiting called the meeting to order. Perry and Stuart talked about the latest information dealing with the North Central Zone meet being held in Gering August 17-10th. Stu showed a sample of a clock which will be given as a raffle item during the meet. He said there may be more than one given away. The sample was grrrrrrreat. Stu said registrations are starting to come in. We all feel this will be one of those events people won't want to miss. Stu also talked about national publications pre-registration forms will appear in. Thanks to Perry and Stu for all their hard work on getting this event off the ground and flying. With St. Ptricks Day being the holiday of interest in March, Lucille came up with a matching game that pertained to items that are green in color. Betty Steinwart won the Ladies, Stu Tritt the mens and Corina Meyers the kids gifts. The adults got Nebraska Lottery tickets and Corina won a $2 bill. The adults were to take the chapter out for dinner if they won the big bucks. You know it, no telephone calls. The April meeting will be hosted by the Steinwarts at the Runza Restaurant in Gering. Stuart will be hosting the May meeting at the Rock Ranch in Pine Bluffs Wyoming. It is hoped some of the Wyoming and Colorado chapters members can join us. The weather is getting so nice we can start driving our Studebakers again, as evidenced by the Meyers bringing their station wagon to our last meeting. It was great seeing it. Thanks Perry. See you all in April. Dallas Whiting Conestoga The Conestoga Chapter get together was March 25 at The Quaker Steak and Lube in Westminster. There were 10 Studebakers on display and the manager was very happy to have us. He even took pictures to post on their website (Facebook page). A very short meeting was held. This time we were in the Corvette Room, and it was a much better room for a meeting. After a good lunch, several members went over to The Butterfly Pavilion to see the bugs, spiders, and, of course, the butterflies. The Ms Wheelchair Colorado car show is April 14 at the Westminster Senior Center. A $20 entry fee for two people will include a light lunch and dinner with entertainment. Don't forget the April 29 meeting at Centennial Airport Aspen Flying Club. We will be having a Potluck lunch and TV Dinner Tray decorating contest. Come enjoy the fun. Also, various Studebaker videos will be playing. Enjoy the Studebakers, Roger

Chapter News April 2012 Page 4 Pikes Peak On March 17TH, the Kerman Stuart Memorial Chili Cook Off Dinner was held at the American Legion Hall Post #5 with 15 members and guest present. The winners of the chili cook off were: First Place Paul Koch, and a tie for second place between Iris McBride and Karen Donkle. The April 21st Studebaker Show meeting will be at the Studebaker Grill which is located at Academy Blvd. and Constitution Blvd. The May meeting and potluck lunch will be the 19th at the Canon City Abbey Show. Members are asked to make sure they register for the show. We will be meeting at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Canon City before 9 a.m. so we can all park together. David Batchelor and Iris McBride are the host for this event. Co-chairman Dave Batchelor and Chuck Donkle reviewed with the members on some of the planning of the 2013 SDC International being sponsoring by the Chapter. The 2013 Meet Shirts have been order. They will be available with either meet logos by May 1st. Caps will be available as soon as a cap design is approved. The Bluegrass Music Group Fireweed in which Tom Thornburg is a member are in the process of planning Bluegrass Concert at the Fair event for June 1,2,3. This event will be held at the State Fair grounds. They have invited Studebaker members to show their cars on Sunday June 3. They have arranged to have you park your vehicles close to the stages and vendor areas so the attendees could admire your vehicles. The drivers and guests would have an opportunity to enjoy the shows and vendors while there. The entrance fee for Sunday is only $5. Tom has in the past taken his Hawk down to the shows and the folks really seem to appreciate seeing a nice old Stude. Sundays schedule starts with an old time gospel sing along at 9:00 a.m. and Fireweed opens the shows at 10:00 a.m. The shows continue all day on two stages until 7:00p.m. but your group would be free to arrive and leave at anytime you want. Also, Fireweed will be performing at 2013 SDC International Meet at Welcome night. Secretary Chuck Donkle
