LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 1 JULY 2015 FROM THE PREZ. June was a busy month for most of the club members. Martha Hall memorial was well attended and the help from club members was appreciated by Martha s family. So far we have received 1300.00 in donations in Martha s name, to our fund for Clatsop College s Automotive Program. I talked with the instructor last week and we are going to try to get together to see how the club can help the program. The trip to Joseph, Oregon was a hot one. Weather was perfect for the Car Show with Ross winning a Trophy on his first trip with the 1956 Crown Victoria. Ann and I drove back from Arlington with the top down and not a cloud in the sky. Ann and I attended Planters Day Car Show in Woodland, Washington. The show was sponsored by the Rose City Classics and they had a few less cars than last year. Jon Erickson and I were the only club members there and we both received a Trophy! The Warrenton 4th of July Car Show was a nice small show. Steve Jordan had his fresh 1955 Buick Convertible out for it s first show and received a Trophy. Weather was beautiful and I got called in to sub for Sonny Collier who was to drive the Coast Guard Sector Commander in the parade. Sonny s Model T radiator decided it didn t want to hold any water. The July Club Meeting is going to be at Ann & Fred Mestrich's house. 35525 Little Lane. It s off of Logan Road, about 2 miles past Steve & Judy Jordan s out Lewis & Clark Rd. We will have a Potluck starting at 6:00pm with the Club Supplying Hamburgers and Hot Dogs. Meeting will be at 7:00pm in my shop. Call me at home 503-325-8437 or work 503-3250792 for directions or if you get lost. We had a nice Potluck on the 4th of July at Steve & Judy s. Anyone who didn t make it missed some good food, and great company. Fred Mestrich 2015 President We thought Joseph was a little Heaven too! Jim Scarborough finds a colorful shady spot at Joseph Car Show

LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 2 Lower Columbia Classic Minutes Minutes of regular meeting June 19,2015 Ross and Patty Getchell's 92336 Simonsen Road Svensen OR. The regular meeting of the Lower Columbia Classics Car Club was held June 19,2015 at 7:00pm at Ross and Patty Getchell's. President Fred Mestrich called the meeting to order. It was moved and seconded to accept minutes as printed in the BACKFIRE the motion carried. We have a new member Richard Puetz and a returning member Ed Penuel. Everyone is doing well this month. The 50's cruise was a success thanks again to all those who helped. At next month's meeting we will be discussing what events we will be hosting in the coming year. Many donations were made in Martha Hall's name to the education fund thank you all. The website is doing well keep sending your great ideas. Get your newsletter sent to your e-mail save a tree, and see it in color, just contact Ross. Send your stories and ladies don't forget the Backseat page. Patty would like pictures of events for the scrapbook. Meet at aquatic center June 22, 2015 at 5:30pm for Stuffy's Restaurant trip Meet at aquatic center Saturday June 27 at 7:30am for Clatskanie car show. Meet Sunday June 28, at 7:00am at the aquatics center for the Woodland Planters Day show There is a Potluck at Fred and Ann's starting at 6:00pm the July meeting will follow at 7:00pm July 16,2015 7 cars went to Joseph, Congratulations Ross who got first place trophy (Restored / Original car category) for his 1956 Ford Crown Victoria Meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm Margot Gittins Secretary

LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 3 With Steve The club received a nice Thank You from Martha Hall s daughters and son, for the assistance you gave at Martha s Memorial Service and for your friendship to both Larry and Martha. It s hard for me to imagine, having known them both, not sharing their friendship - they were both such great folks and a great addition to Lower Columbia Classic s. Martha s service was well attended, again underlining the large number of folks who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed by the club and all who knew her, she was a friend to all who will remember her. On a brighter note, eighteen cars from the club attended the Heritage Days Car Show in Clatskanie on June 27th. The weather, even though the predictions were for high heat, provided some periods of relief with intervals of broken overcast and slight breezes, according to some members who were in attendance. As a result of member attendance, the club, again brought home the club participation trophy. Ross Getchell was the big winner, according to my sources, bringing home three trophies; best 50 thru 59 stock, Mayor s Choice and Hot Chicks Pick, all awarded to his recently restored and beautiful `56 Ford Crown Victoria. Ramblin Round Marv & Sue Stunkard were awarded the Club Memorial Trophy. Good job everyone! Eleven club members brought out their collector cars for the Warrenton s Old- Fashioned Fourth of July celebration and car show and of those, five participated in the parade. In the spirit of Independence Day, mother nature blessed us with an abundance of clear skies and sunshine, a beautiful day. Judy and I were able to get our `55 Buick out and take it to the show where it received the Mayor s Choice award. It was it s first trip out of the shop and a trial run. As a result, I have compiled a list of items needing attention, some that I already had on the list and some that revealed themselves on the drive to the show. Looks like I ve got some clean-up work in my future. Back on June 11th, seven cars drove to Joseph, OR. to attend the Oregon Mountain Cruise, stopping in Boardman for the night and continuing our trip on the 12th. At Pendleton, we were joined by Jack Hendrickson & Sandra Jones, of the Clatskanie Cruisers. All who went had lots of good food, good fun and great camaraderie. Ross & Patty Getchell brought home a first place award in best restored to original class for their Crown Vic. As usual, the Oregon Mountain Cruise was a well presented, well attended great event.

LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 4 After Seven plus years, she (Anna as she is affectionately called) is finally near completion. I still have some work that I am finishing, but it is at least drivable. You know that all to often saying; Got to work the bugs out of it Since it has been out on the road, I ve been chasing some of those bugs. Some would say our projects are never really finished. Maybe this is true but at least now Patty and I can start enjoying our long awaited 1956 Ford Crown Victoria. Ross & Patty Getchell

LOWER COLUMBIA CLASSIC CAR CLUB 5 FROM THE BACK SEAT Club Members who need a little Sunshine The names below have been submitted by the Sunshine Committee. Those listed below are our fellow members and need you GAIL PENUEL Know someone not up to speed let Judy Jordan, Sunshine Committee Chair know. Judy s Phone number is: (503) 325-1807 Your kindness and sympathy are more deeply appreciated than any words of thanks can ever express! The Lower Columbia Classic Car ClubThank you all for your help at Mom s service. (Martha Hall) Also Thank you for the money for the College, and for all your friendship with our parents. Thanks Mary Ann, Jim, and Kari We did what????? Yes we did, as you can see in the picture the LCCC travel girls posed for pictures in front of the ladies PINK Porta Potty. Ann Mestrich could not believe her eyes when she saw this on the streets in downtown Joseph Oregon. So, she gathered all of the girls and had us pose in and in front of the ladies Pink Porta Potty. (It was practically odorless ladies.) Not only did we pose to the front but someone has pictures of us all facing the other way. You will have to do your own research to find out who has the photos. Not only did we have fun posing for pictures but we shopped downtown, ate at places like The Stubborn Mule, shopped some more and visited lots. Even though we were separated by miles from each other in different hotels, motels, and condos we connected up many times.
