See the actual battlefield where the 8th Army won undying fame. Tel el Eisa fought over time and time again by the Australians in July 1942. The original railway station from which the battle takes its name plus every other major part of the battlefield. Seventy five years have not yet eradicated traces of the fighting join us on a memorable tour of this famous battlefield and see the actual ground where numerous Victoria Crosses were won. Stand on the Alamein Memorial and see the 7,000 graves with the battlefield beyond. An ideal relaxing take it easy tour for veterans and an opportunity for the ladies to see places other than battlefields. Itinerary Day 1 Arrive Cairo. Greeted and escorted to our Mena House hotel, overnight in Cairo. Day 2 (BLD) The day begins with a visit to the Montgomery and Winston Churchill rooms in Mena, have your photo taken sitting at their desks. We then have a tour of the Pyramids and Sphinx, We then drive to the world famous Cecil Hotel in Alexandria where we stay for one night.

Day 4 (BLD) On the anniversary of the battle we visit the El Alamein battlefield, Tel el Eisa where Arthur Gurney won the Victoria Cross, Springbok Road and Ruwesait Ridge, where Keith Elliot and Charles Upham won their VC s. Miteirya Ridge where Percy Gratwick and William Kibby won their VC s. The famous Qattara Track, Bab el Qattara, the minefields and see where Lt. Col. Vic Turner won his VC near the Rahman Track. Lots to see during this busy day. Picnic on the battlefield. Day 5 (BLD) Today is dedicated to all those who fought and died at El Alamein. We shall visit the Alamein war museum, El Alamein War cemetery where 4 Victoria Cross receipiants are buried, lunch in a local El Alamein restaurant. We will also visit the German and Italian Cemeteries at Tel el Eisa.
Day 6 (BLD) Drive to Mersa Matruh via Fuka where the Indian Brigade fought a famous rear-guard action, Sidi el Rahman, El Daba and Mingar Qaim scene of the famous 1942 New Zealand breakout and Sidi Hemza where Adam Wakenshaw won a posthumous VC. Free time in the town. Check into our hotel for two nights. Day 7 (BLD) Today is dedicated to the Senussi War, 1915/16. We shall also visit the Wadi Majid, Djebel Medwa and Halazin battlefields where British and ANZACS fought in World War 1. Picnic lunch on the beach at Matruh and visit to the Rommel Museum. Opportunity to stay at the hotel relaxing on the beach or shopping in Mersa Matruh or maybe both. Day 8 (BLD) Return to Cairo via the site of Monty s first battle in the desert at Alam Halfa fought in August/September 1942, check into hotel for two nights. Optional Pyramid light show. Day 9 (BLD) A day relaxing or visit the Cairo Pharaoh Museum and the original Old War Horse Memorial Hospital and the French Napoleonic Memorial & graves. Evening optional Nile River dinner cruise.

Steve Hamilton and his team looked after us all superbly and I ve increased my knowledge of the Battle of El Alamein hugely. Nothing can replace the experience of actually standing there amongst the shell fragments and seeing the positions that were fought so hard for with your own eyes. David and I just want to say again how pleased we were with everything on the tour. The accommodations, food, the sites themselves, your explanations and expertise and comradery were all wonderful. I want to thank you sincerely for a tremendous tour one of the highlights of my life.we crammed so much into 10 days. This tour will be fodder for the rest of my cruise dinners at sea.
