Participants Ecuador Welcomes You We warmly welcome you to the 15th Jamboree and 2nd Interamerican Camporee 2017. You will be part of a magical experience, full of adventure, fun, discovery, learning, community service, fellowship and more; you will visit different places in a wonderful country, whose name comes from the dividing line of the world into two equal parts, the "Equator". Ecuador was the inspiration of Charles Darwin to write the theory "On the Origin of the Species" after meeting the enchanted Galapagos Islands, revolutionizing the scientific world of that time and becoming a unifying concept in modern life sciences. Ecuador is the most megadiverse country per square kilometer in the world, with its four regions: the heavenly Galapagos Islands, its incomparable beaches, majestic mountains and exuberant Amazon rainforest are preparing to welcome thousands of Scouts across America, as it will be the most spectacular event in recent years. The entire Ecuador, its nature and Scouts are ready to welcome all of you and live TOGETHER a great adventure of fellowship and discovery. See you there...!!! Activities Ecuador is the cradle of evolution, as its magical islands were the place where the scientist Charles Darwin developed his theory on evolution of the species. After more than 100 years of this formulation, Ecuador will host an unprecedented event in which thousands of Scouts will be gathered to show the world that we are the "formula of evolution". We invite you to enjoy the JamCam, its activities will be framed in the "evolution" of youth in the middle of a country with natural and cultural wonders. Please find below the activities of the event, all of which have a special symbolism. Opening La bienvenida de Charles (Welcome from Charles) An unforgettable evening with emphasis in all the countries of the continent. We will experience the colorful and diversity of America with a parade of national flags and costumes of each country participating in the JamCam, as well as the show of the Tierra de los Cuatro Mundos (Land of the Four Worlds), where you can learn more about Ecuador as host country of the event. Welcoming the New Year You will have the opportunity to celebrate New Year s Eve in one of the most traditional festivals of Ecuador, the burning of the Año Viejo old year. You cannot miss a unique celebration in the world.

Parque Los Samanes Megadiverse Ecuador Thanks to its location in the center of the world, Ecuador gathers the diversity of the planet in a small territory, which is combined by the Andes, heavenly coasts, mysterious and profound Amazon rainforests and a unique treasure in the world which constitutes a natural laboratory, named Galapagos. All these fairytale places, in which a privileged fauna and flora develops, gathers 10% of all plant species existing throughout the world. Important Facts Weather, Temperature and Humidity This region has a tropical or equatorial climate; it is characterized by eventual rainfalls that begin in December and ends in May. Guayaquil has a humid climate with an average of 40% relative humidity. The temperature in December is stable. Generally, the day is warm and can reach temperatures between 27 C and 31 C (81 F and 88 F). During the night, temperatures can drop between 20 C and 23 C (68 F and 73 F). Language The official language of Ecuador is Spanish. Kichwa and Shuar are also considered as official languages for intercultural relations. An estimated 25% of Ecuadorians speaks English. Electric Power Ecuador uses a voltage system of 110V 60Hz Plug type A or B. Visa Citizens across America can visit Ecuador without a visa and stay for a period of ninety days, in accordance with the principle of free movement of persons and in order to strengthen relations between Ecuador and all countries of the world and promote tourism. Access Routes Air Routes: - International Airport "Jose Joaquin de Olmedo" in Guayaquil, 20 minutes from JamCam by car. - International Airport "Mariscal Sucre" in Quito, from there you must go overland transport to the city of Guayaquil. It takes approximately an eight-hour journey by ground transportation to the campsite. Ground Routes: - At the north side of the country (border with Colombia) you can enter Ecuador through the city of Tulcán, and take a bus (ground transportation) approximately a ten-hour trip to Guayaquil. - From the South of the country (border with Peru) you can enter Ecuador through the city of Loja or Huaquillas, the trip takes approximately eight and four hours, respectively. Currency The official currency in Ecuador since 2000 is the US Dollar, and we own coins (cents) with the same value of American coins. Because of this multiple combination between geographical and geopolitical location, geological and topographical features, climate, precipitation and temperature characteristics and biological and evolutionary factors, Ecuador is shaped as the perfect scene for gathering life, expressed in a high biodiversity, also known as megadiversity. "The seventeen countries with greater diversity occupy less than 10% of the surface of the planet but are home to seven out of ten recognized species. Ecuador is part of the list" (Burneo, 2009). Ecuador is located in the tropical belt of the planet, on the Equator, with territories both in the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere, so it gets high periods of sunshine and luminosity, resulting in twelve hours of daily sunlight throughout the year. Due to intense tectonic and volcanic activity, the Andes Mountains range goes through our country divided into two branches, Occidental (western mountain range) and Oriental (eastern mountain ranges). In the middle of the two ranges is located the Andean Corridor. As a result, Ecuador has a territory ranging from 0 up to nearly 6,300 meters above sea level. Geographically, our country is divided into four natural regions, each with multiple altitudes, living areas and geographical barriers, "the western lowlands or Coast Region; in the center the high Andean area or highlands; the Amazon rainforest to the east; and the Galapagos Archipelago or Insular Region 1,000 km from the mainland in the Pacific Ocean (Ministry of Environment of Ecuador, 2010). The Amazon rainforest has two parts known as the Alta Amazonía (Upper Amazon) and "Llanura Amazónica (Amazon plains). Moreover, Ecuador receives the influence of the cold Humboldt Current at the south of the country and warm Current El Niño at the north, as well as the trade winds that combined generate "a variety of climatic regimes" (Jørgensen & Neill, 1995-2013) which mark rainfalls and influence in precipitation. The abovementioned factors combined, result in different kinds of vegetation and ecosystems in Ecuador, to which flora and fauna have adapted for "a thousand generations" (Burneo, 2009) and have specialized, leading to speciation, endemism and current concentration of animal and plant species. In Ecuador, there is no need to look for natural areas because you find them at each step you take. You can change of place in a few hours, from cold glaciers to the warm beaches of the Ecuadorian coast; and from its beautiful valleys to the Amazon Ecuadorian jungle, including everything these natural environments have to offer, with its eternal spring, where you can experience adventure, spirituality and knowledge; in the unique natural laboratory without barriers, where you can get a close look and wonder at living species as you have fun and adventure with activities such as camping, tracking, canopying, canoeing, climbing, surfing and much more.
