Eastern Ontario Ottawa HOG Chapter # 9007 Page 3 of 8 May 2011 - Issue No. 05 Note from Santa Well as time changes... we have got to go with the flow. After a long and hard deliberation with myself, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to hang up the helmet for now. It was a very hard decision because I ve been riding motorcycles since the early sixties and still enjoy it very much. For years, at the beginning I was riding alone, then I started going at the Market after supper and made friends with a lot of people who talk me into buying a Harley and joining the HOG, a decision that I never regretted. The first year as a HOG member, I went to more places and made more friends then the previous 30 years of riding. As most of you know, I m also involved in model railroad. For now, I cannot continue in both hobbies, so I decided to put a For Sale sign on Santa's Summer Sleigh. It s an old bike, but a good old bike. It s been a long ride, and it s been a good ride. Thank you all for letting me be part of your group. I m asking $11,000.00 for the bike and matching trailer, plus a whole lot of extras, too many to list. If interested, contact me at classicrider@rogers.com or at home 613-421-7215 or cell 613-851-8780. - Pierre Santa Alberti Tackaberry Tour - Sunday June 5, 2011 Contributed by Sandy Any members interested in antique trucks, tractors, cars, die cast models plus a wide variety of antiques can join in by contacting Sandy or Dawn at 613-283-4094. A pre-paid $10 donation will reserve your spot. Open to the first 40 members who sign up before May 18th. We will be leaving from the Walmart on Hwy #15/Lombard St., Smiths Falls, as a group ride, rain or shine. Time of departure will be on the Rideline in advance (613-594-0555). Your E.O.O. Eastern Ontario Ottawa HOG Chapter # 9007 Page 4 of 8 May 2011 - Issue No. 05 Ladies Night On Wednesday March 9, Harley-Davidson of Ottawa held another one of their famous Garage Party events. The evening was a great success and very well organized. A total of 10 stations covered topics from how to select riding gear and look fabulous, how to customize any Harley to fit anybody and even let participators hop on a bike, turn it on and change gears, to name just a few of the interesting sessions! There were also amazing tips on hair and skin care. Kudos to Rosalie, her team, to everyone who contributed to the organization, and a big Thank you to all who attended! The EOO HOG Chapter and the Ladies of Harley are looking forward to seeing you all at the next Garage Party! Nathalie Borduas Ladies of Harley Officer

Eastern Ontario Ottawa HOG Chapter # 9007 Page 5 of 8 May 2011 - Issue No. 05 Memorial Ride for Linda Allard Submitted by Marcel Gauthier It was not so long ago that Linda was gracing us with her beautiful smile. It is now time for us to return this favour by attending the internment of her ashes. This is by no means a farewell, simply an occasion to get together with other people who valued this wonderful woman, to honour her and reminisce, and to strengthen our memories of her in order that they may be more vivid in our thoughts. The burial will take place on June 11, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Cemetery in Sainte-Scholastique, near Mirabel, north of Montreal. The Cemetery is on Saint- Vincent Street in Sainte-Scholastique. Two maps are shown for those wanting to travel on their own. Those wishing to join the memorial ride leaving from Orleans must be at the Tim Hortons at the corner of St-Joseph and Place d Orléans Drive before 7:30 am. We will be leaving no later than 7:30 and riding down Highway 174 to cross over to the Province of Québec at Hawkesbury. People wishing to join us along the way (e.g. from the Timmy at the corner of Edwards Street and 174 in Rockland, and from the HD Dealership at the corner of Main and John Streets in Hawkesbury) should simply file in at the rear of the group as we drive by (you should be ready to go by 7:40 am in Rockland and 8:20 am in Hawkesbury). If you have any questions about the memorial ride for Linda, you may contact Diana Frederick at 613-263-1539 or at dfrede1070@rogers.com, or Dawn Banville at 613-283-4094. Here are 2 maps for your reference Hyperlinks to Google Maps are also included, in case you wanted to choose a different zoom factor. The second map is on the next page, positioned sideways because of its width. http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ie=utf8&ll=45.647048,-74.123726 (Town of Sainte-Scholastique and Saint-Vincent Street) http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=saint (Sainte-Scholastique and Hawkesbury reference) Photo: Linda and her "Winter Bike" Continued on next page

Eastern Ontario Ottawa HOG Chapter # 9007 Page 6 of 8 May 2011 - Issue No. 05 Note: This memorial ride is on the same day as our sister Chapter, Freedom, is having their charity event. If you can't be in two places at once (the memorial ride for Linda, and the Children's Wish Foundation Fun Run event), I have a solution for you. You can attend the May 18 th general meeting to sign up with EOO Chapter member L'il Ron, who is also Freedom Chapter's Director, as he will have donation forms available. Dawn In Memory Patches - Linda Allard This special patch is now available, in remembrance of Linda Allard, a fellow H.O.G. Chapter member and friend who passed away January 19, 2011. Cost is $10. Call Dawn at 613-283-4094 or see Dawn at the meeting, to purchase one. (Note from Editor: Apologies for the poor quality of maps, especially the one on this page. I could not make it bigger, as Marcel had hoped, due to it being so wide. At least it will give you an idea of the position of the destination from the start point in Hawkesbury. Please refer to your own map when driving the route.)

It is an opportunity to see if motorcycling is for you! The three-hour course consists of hands-on riding instruction and practice on a motorcycle provided and insured by the OSC. Riding practice takes place rain or shine on a series of parking lots in Ottawa. All you need is your gear! Fee: $56.50 (HST included) This fee includes your lesson, course materials, full use of an insured motorcycle and fuel. For more information and to register contact Nathalie Borduas, Ladies of Harley Officer 613 834 9294 or nborduas@hotmail.com Please note that this course will not qualify you to operate a motorcycle on the streets, nor provide sufficient training for you to pass the skills portion of a motorcycle licensing course. A Flash from the Past Dawn was kind enough to share this 1995 newsletter excerpt, as we celebrate our 25 th anniversary this year. It was on page 7 of the newsletter, and typed on a typewriter in that familiar courier font. CREEPING COMPUTER HELP!!! I'm gradually loosing control and its showing in the newsletter. Please know that I am not to blame in this matter. It's people - other club persons - with a hidden agenda. These (presently nameless) souls are pushing me and my newsletter closer and closer to the edge. Its a conspiracy. They've even introduced a new strain of virus to help their cause - "Creeping Computer". You may have noted that very gradually over the past year, the HOG TIMES has been changing - a bit at a time - a little here and a little there. It's almost sinister. I'm an old fashioned "typewriter" kind of guy. For like minded souls, let me make my apologies now - while I still can. Eventually, this will become a completely computer, generated document. Like the Bourg in Star Trek, I am becoming assimilated - just an extension of some computer. Yours in hapless helplessness, Yours in technological turmoil, Yours for as long as I still exist as a separate entity, Rick Ferrier (editor)
