Airstreamer Tip: Tire Pressure Monitor part 2 In the last newsletter issue we featured an article by Jeff Foeh touting the importance of Tire Pressure Monitors. Bob LeVan had excellent follow-up information that he shared in response to that article: Tire monitors are great no questions but it doesn t replace checking your tires every day, every stop. It is simple to do a walk around when stopping for a rest or food break. Just do a visual and maybe place a hand on each tire and the hub for to check for excessive heat. Tires should be warm, never hot. I speak from experience: we completed a 12,500-mile journey last summer and had all five tires replaced on the trip. The tire monitors only caught one blowout. The other flat tires and complete tread separation were not uncovered by the monitors. The complete tread separation was noticed by the following car that came along side and told me to stop at once. The reality of it is that tire monitors are nice and supply a degree of comfort and peace of mind, but they do not replace checking your tires every day while in transit. We Need YOU to Host a Rally We are currently looking for volunteers to host rallies this year. If you ve considered doing it in the past, now is your chance to act! Some tips/ideas: - Co-host with someone else if you re nervous - Make it easy on yourself: just plan the date and location and everyone can make their own reservations and bring their own food - If you re planning your own camping trip, simply post it on Meetup and casually invite others along for an un-rally - Email Dale and Cheryl Musser with ideas/questions: musserfly@gmail.com 4
