BLUE RIDGE LEDGER NEWSLETTER OF THE VOLUME 6, ISSUE 1 GLENDA M. ANGUS, EDITOR APRIL 2017 COMMENTS FROM THE PRESIDENT SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST Once again, the Southeast DOAI rally (Camp Discovery) is complete and it was such a success. I want to thank all of the Blue Ridge Discovery members, especially Frank Cason the rally master, for such a great job. All I heard the whole week was how well it was run. Our thanks to Lazy Days, General R.V. and all the venders for their support and contributions. The only hiccup was that yours truly could not provide good weather for the golf tournament, but we survived and had fun. We, in Blue Ridge, added nine new members which makes our membership now at 54. Our chapter has been so successful over the years and I contribute that to the membership and our previous leadership. One special thanks needs to go to Charlie Harvell who stepped up in our time of need. Our next rally will be at the Outer Banks of North Carolina the first week in April 2017. There is so much history there such as the Wright Memorial, Jockey s Ridge, Ocracoke Island and numerous light houses. We think a great rally has been planned for all of you. It s time to mark your calendars and make your reservations for the Alabama rally followed by our rolling rally to the national rally in Oklahoma in late September and early October. Note the dates which are in the block to the left. As soon as a registration form and itinerary are ready, they will be forwarded to you. Note some important information about our Fall Rally on page 2. Have a great spring! Miss u all! Very Bestest, Eileen Note: Eileen will see us at our Outer Banks Rally. Well friends, Barbara and I can hardly believe it and are still pinching ourselves, because we sold our Discovery this afternoon thanks to a referral from Linda Terrill and Harry Terrill. If all goes well, the deal should close about this time next week. It has been a wonderful ride and we will truly miss each and everyone of you, and hope to follow your travels. So, instead of saying good bye, I'll quote my childhood idol, Roy Rogers, and simply say: "Happy trails until we meet again." Whenever any of you are in the Atlanta area, please let us know so we can get together. On 8 March Bob said he got a BRD/DOAI care package all ready for the new owners. Great work Bob! (Bob Zumwalt) David and I had a wonderful time and learned a lot as first timers at the Tampa Rally. However, while there our 16-year-old Maltese, Buffy, became ill. After calling her veterinarian at home and describing her symptoms they recommended we take her to a veterinarian. After an internet search, we took the luck of the draw and found Dr. Sigfredo Rodriquez, at Advanced Veterinary Services in Seffner. His office was located just 2 miles away from Lazydays on MLK Blvd. He contacted Buffy s home veterinarian and got pertinent records and began testing to determine what was wrong. It turned out that she had Pancreatitis and needed to stay at his office and receive fluids and other medications. She stayed at Advanced Veterinary Services for two nights. We picked her up on Thursday and she has been fine ever since. Many of us travel with our pets and when they become ill while you are away from home it can be scary. If while at Lazydays your pet becomes ill just remember Dr. Rodriquez, a great veterinarian, is just around the corner. (Cecelia Hewett) In addition to all those new members from Lazydays we welcome two recruits we met in Webster. Glad to have you on board Linda & Bruce Orvis. It was nice meeting you at Webster and hope to see you both soon at a Rally. Margaret Ellen says it was good seeing everyone at Lazy Days though many folks were sick or recovering. Bruce and Margaret are home and working on their calendars so will be unable to attend the next three rallies. Hopefully we will cross paths along the roads in the coming year. (Margaret Ellen)

VOLUME 6, ISSUE 1 PAGE 3 We have planned a rally that will be fun-filled, and action-packed for all our first rally at the Outer Banks. This area of North Carolina is history-filled and there are events, including self-guided tours (lighthouses, the Wright Memorial, the Kittyhawk, and sand dunes, just to name a few). Everyone should try to plan one day to take the ferry to Ocracoke Island for a unique experience. Various games will be available onsite during the duration of the rally. We are looking forward to seeing all of you! Driving Directions WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT USE A GPS DEVICE! From the North, Chesapeake, VA area. Take VA 168 south to NC158 East thru Nags Head, NC. Then follow NC12 South (Cape Hattteras National Seashore) to Rodanthe at milepost 40.5. From the West, Interstate 95 area. Take Exit 138/US 64 East to Manteo/Nags Head, NC. Then follow NC12 South (Cape Hatteras National Seashore) to Rodanthe milepost 40.5. Access to Hatteras Island from the South is available via the NC Ferry System from Cedar Island to Ocracoke then to Hatteras Island. www.ncferry.org NEAREST GROCERY STORE IS APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES PLEASE COME PRE- PARED! Pandion Ridge Luxury RV Resort VOLUME 6, ISSUE 1 PAGE 7 Our Fall Rally is at Pandion Ridge Luxury RV Resort in Orange Beach, Alabama. The Rally will be 1-6 October 2017. Forms for registration will be available as soon as our hosts complete arrangements for the itinerary. For those who wish to participate in the rolling rally to Shawnee for the National Rally we will plan to stop in Vicksburg, Mississippi, on the 6th and travel to Texarkana, Texas, on the 7th arriving in Shawnee the afternoon of 8 October. We will not be able to disembark at the Shawnee site before 1200 p.m. because another large rally will be departing that morning. There has been discussion that after the National Rally several Blue Ridge members would like to travel on to Branson, Missouri, for a few days (about 4). Some of you may recall that we had a very nice rally there last year. For planning purposes we need to know how many coaches will travel in the rolling rally to Shawnee and how many would like to go on to Branson. We will need to make arrangements at RV parks that can accommodate us. From Orange Beach to Vicksburg it is 284 miles and a little over 5 hours travel. From Vicksburg to Texarkana, Texas, it is 245 miles and about 4 hours travel. Journey to Shawnee is 280 miles (5 hours) and to Branson will be about 5 hours or 318 miles. It is imperative that you let us know what your plans are concerning the Rolling and National Rally and plans for Branson. Please be prepared to let me know of your decision at the Spring Rally in April. You may also send email to me at angusr@charter.net or angusg@charter.net at any time. (Bob Angus)

PAGE 20 BLUE RIDGE LEDGER On Friday, 4 April, at breakfast Anne Humphrey passed out and was hospitalized. On Saturday, because they couldn't find a reason for this event, Bill insisted she be discharged and returned into Thrive Care. She is better now and he is returning to Florida Grande. Anne did not do well in the hospital with all the heart monitor stuff and the IV. She does not talk so could not understand what was going on. Bill saw her yesterday and she is back to her old self. Much better in the memory care unit than the hospital. Bill received a report from his family doctor as of 8 March, Anne s test show no issues, CT scan, blood urine, heart all pretty normal. Bill cannot explain the passing out that morning. Please keep Anne in your prayers and thoughts. Thanks. Bill Humphrey Diana Blaher had a shoulder replacement in November and she was really moving that arm in January. Looking great Diana. It was good to see Margaret Ellen up and around after her surgery. She was a great help at the rally. Take it easy Margaret and don t overdo it. Julie Berry is having a few issues and took a trip home for some tests while in Webster. Hope this finds her well on her return. I ve been told that Mary Anne & Larry Weinberg s son is doing better but it will be some time before he is completely recovered. Mary Anne indicates that Larry s hip surgery is scheduled for April 3d. He was hospitalized last week with aspiration after an endoscopy. It was treated and he is fine now. (Mary Anne Weinberg) My grandson, Chad Angus and sister, Gloria Davis, are having eye surgery next week (one in Louisana and the other in Tennessee). Please keep them in your prayers. (Glenda) Please keep all our members who are having medical issues in your prayers. Please let me know of any one who needs to be added to our prayer list.
