NBYC Members, Well, my friends, we are already off to an amazing start for 2018 with an eager Board of Directors, many new committees and volunteers for everything you can imagine to run a successful club. Thank you all for your generous contributions of time and creativity... Is this a great club or what! Our recent Change of Watch was an elegant Mardi Gras Ball that provided us with a memorable evening in a beautiful venue with excellent dining, thoughtful ceremonies and dancing the night away. Lucy Lichty and her committee delighted the club with a night to remember. The club enjoyed and appreciates all of your diligent efforts for a great event. Anticipating fairer weather our Rear Commodore, Jack Fleming, has two meetings this month to set the boating calendar for the year. Powerboaters, sailors and paddlers are all invited to help plan the on the water activities. I've caught wind of some very creative ideas and unique adventures to fill your boating season this year. Please join in the Cruise Planning Meetings and help set our course for 2018. A frequent visit to the club's website, www.newbernyachtclub.com, and the club's calendar will keep you abreast of every social activity, meeting schedule and boating activity. Thank you June, Jeff and Jim for your vigilance in recording all of the NBYC activities and events. Not sure of what's going on, just go to our website calendar. As many of you know, our new Board Member Barbara Bidwell has been on call to care for her parents. Barbara, regrettably, has asked to resign from the Board due to increased demand in caring for her father and the Board is seeking a replacement. Please keep Barbara and her family in your thoughts. In closing, I would again extend thanks to the Past Commodore, Karl Lichty, for handing me a well managed and beautiful yacht club filled with very happy Members. It just doesn't get any better than that! Tim -Tim Broderick Commodore 671-2134 brodericknbnc@yahoo.com

2018 Cruising The Club s cruising calendar is starting to fill up. On the calendar are the Shakedown and Wooley Bear Cruises of course. Jeff and Lisa Noyes will be heading for the Chesapeake in April and possibly on to National Harbor with its new MGM Casino. Mike and Sarah Ott are talking of going along. Jeff is welcoming company all or part of the way. Frank and Sandy Bruno have a slip reservation in Ocracoke for the Music Festival in early June. They too are welcoming company. The Cruising meetings are scheduled for February 6 (big boats) and 13 (all others). We ll identify additional cruising opportuni3es and put some flesh on the ones already started. We have a new opportunity with the Trent River Raft Race slated for June 23. We ll cover this one at the meeting on February 13. March 9th is the Cruiser of the year dinner. Additional details are being worked on as I type and will be published ASAP. Last but not least, we have some good news and some bad news that will become good news regarding the docks. First off, they are filling up. That s the good news. The other news is in regard to the water system. It is kaput. Frozen and split in numerous places. That is the bad news. This becomes good news because the club will be installing a new system. Plans and budget are being prepared with Installa3on scheduled for March. Volunteers to help with the preliminary work and installa3on are needed. If you are interested contact myself or Bill McHale. Jack -Jack Fleming, Rear Commodore 633-0309 eilcmhor@gmail.com

Directory Updates If you are aware of an update to the directory, please let Jim Miller know. Email is much better than meeting at Lowe s or Harris Teeter, and even better than a phone call, but any form of communication is better than ignoring it. Misplaced your directory? It is also available online at newbernyachclub.com in the Members Only tab. -James C Miller 636-3388 A get-well card sent to Jim Smithwick following a bad fall on the ice. A card was also sent to Sam and Barbara Bidwell in sympathy for Barbara s ailing father. If you know a member who is, or recently has been, sick, had an operation, or is just under the weather, or lost a family member, please contact the Sunshine Committee. -Camille Hoffman 672-1684 camhoff1@gmail.com Shipmates Information Treasurer s Report The Treasurer s Report may be viewed on eseaword in the members only section after Board acceptance. Board Meeting Minutes If you would like a copy of the Board Meeting Minutes, it may be obtained (after Board acceptance) by emailing the Secretary or by viewing on eseaword. Ship s Store We are very excited about the latest Ship's Store item ready for immediate purchase: a New Bern Yacht Club inscribed stainless steel 15-ounce coffee mug with handle. A bargain at only $10. Of course, Tervis tumblers, notecards, glass ware, hats, visors, men's and women's shirts, burgees and license plates are at the Ship's Store table. The New Bern Sporting Goods catalog is available for perusal with various logos and writing options for embroidering. I will always help you find what you need. If I can help in any way or if you have questions, please contact me. -Sue Marsh 571-5286 sue1946@hotmail.com
