Page 5 of 10 AIRLINE OVERVIEW The final recap for 2016: Total passengers grew 2.52 percent to 37.5 million passengers, within about 100,000 passengers of eclipsing MSP s all-time passenger record of 37.6 million passengers, achieved in 2005. Total international passengers grew 5.20 percent, to 2,810,736 passengers, breaking MSP s previous international passenger record of 2,671,840 in 2015. All airlines providing service to international destinations (Air Canada, Air France, Condor, Delta, Icelandair, and Sun Country) grew in 2016. Delta s total passengers were relatively flat in 2016 compared to 2015, but international passengers grew by 4.51 percent. Sun Country s international passengers grew by 3.82 percent. For the second quarter of 2017, MSP will continue to see airline seat growth. European airlines, highlighted by the reintroduction of KLM to MSP for the first time since 2004 with 3x/week service to Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS), will experience considerable growth. Icelandair, provider of nonstop service to Reykjavik, Iceland (KEF), and Condor Airlines, provider of nonstop service to Frankfurt, Germany (FRA), will operate 52 percent and 65 percent more seats in the second quarter of 2017, compared to the second quarter of 2016. Delta s service to European countries in the second quarter is essentially flat for departures (487 in 2Q2017 vs. 489 in 2Q2016), but up about 5.50 percent for seats. Service to Tokyo is greater than last year, due to the transition serving Tokyo-Haneda (HND), instead of Tokyo- Narita (NRT). Due to the Easter holiday occurring 2 weeks later than 2016, Sun Country s winter schedule is larger through the beginning of the second quarter in April. This is essentially a two-week extension of the spring break season for 2017 compared to 2016. Service to Liberia, Costa Rica, Mazatlán, Punta Cana, Puerto Vallarta, San Jose Del Cabo, Phoenix, and Cancun are all up at least 20 percent. Southwest s second quarter service is highlighted by the introduction of nonstop service to Nashville, TN (BNA), for the first time on June 4, 2017. Nashville is Southwest s tenth destination that will be served year-round from MSP. This service establishes Nashville as a competitive destination for MSP, with Southwest becoming the second airline in addition to Delta serving the route. Frontier is also introducing service to new destinations in the second quarter. Service to Cincinnati, OH (CVG), starts April 21, 2017, while service to Cleveland, OH (CLE), starts April 23, 2017. Cincinnati and Cleveland are the 3 rd and 4 th overall destinations for Frontier from MSP. The service establishes both Cincinnati and Cleveland as competitive destinations for MSP, with Frontier becoming the second airline in addition to Delta serving the route.
