The more native art is, the more it belongs to the entire world, because taste is rooted in nature. This is the secret of the art of the masters. The secret of my best work is that it is Mexican. Diego Rivera 20TH CENTURY MEXICAN PAINTER

This special group trip explores the vibrant world of historical and contemporary art, architecture and design in Mexico City. Our itinerary invites members to experience exclusive access to the Mexican capital s esteemed galleries and museums, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Casa Luis Barragán, the Diego Rivera home and studio, Museo Jumex and more. We will have the privilege to meet with curators and experts who will lead us on city tours. In addition to unique shopping opportunities in this design-centric hotspot, we will enjoy fine dining at some of Mexico City s most delicious and innovative restaurants. On this journey, we will be treated to insider perspectives on art and design in the context of Mexico s rich cultural heritage.

DAY 1 Mon., June 4 Arrive Mexico City Today, our group will arrive at Mexico City s Benito Juarez International Airport, where we will be met for our private transfers to the Four Seasons Hotel. After check in and downtime, we will meet for a cocktail reception and group welcome dinner at the Four Seasons (in a private room). OVERNIGHT: Four Seasons Mexico City Meals Included: D DAY 2 Tues., June 5 Architecture of Mexico City Enjoy a full day to discover some of the most representative architecture in the city through the work of Luis Barragán, one of the most important architects of the 20th century and the only Mexican to win the Pritzker Prize (in 1980), the highest award for international architecture. Among his iconic buildings in the city, you will enjoy private, expert-guided visits to: The Casa Luis Barragán: Built in 1948, this private home represents one of the most internationally transcendent works of contemporary architecture, which has since been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the only individual property in Latin America to have achieved such a distinct honor, and it is a masterpierce in the development of the modern movement merging traditional and vernacular elements, as well as diverse philosophical and artistic currents. The Casa Gilardi: Located in the Condesa neighborhood, Barragán was persuaded to accept this commission on two conditions: that the huge Jacaranda tree should be kept on the site, and that he include the pool requested by the owner as part of the program. The house is arranged in such a way that it closes to the street, thus reinforcing its interiority. The Casa Pedregal: Formerly known as the Casa Prieto-López, this is a 1940s residential project that is one of Luis Barragán s most iconic works from his golden period. A private residence, it was part of the Jardines del Pedregal, an influential subdivision developed by Barragán. Recently purchased and restored by Jorge Covarrubias, the house will be opened for us alone. The Capilla de las Capuchinas: This is the famous chapel and convent of the Capuchinas Sacramentarias order and another Barragán masterpiece.

At the end of our architectural tour, we will return to our hotel for some time to relax. You are free to enjoy dinner at your leisure, and we would be happy to provide recommendations and arrange reservations for you in advance. OVERNIGHT: Four Seasons Mexico City Meals Included: B, L DAY 3 Wed., June 6 History of Mexico City Today, we will meet our local expert guide after breakfast at the hotel for a full-day, guided walking tour of Mexico City, focusing on design, architecture and history. Along the way, we will enjoy private tours of the city s best art museums: the famous Palace of Fine Arts, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Templo Mayor (only from outside), the National Palace (where Diego Rivera s famous murals are painted) and the Museum of Popular Arts. After our tour, we recommend a long, relaxing lunch in the historic city center at the restaurant El Mayor. Then, enjoy the afternoon at your leisure, exploring the city for shopping or returning to the hotel for some downtime before our group dinner at a fashionable Mexico City restaurant. OVERNIGHT: Four Seasons Mexico City Meals Included: B, L, D DAY 4 Thurs., June 7 San Angel and Polanco After breakfast at the hotel, we will drive approximately 40 minutes to the San Angel neighborhood. With its narrow, cobblestone streets and large colorful houses, it can be hard to believe that San Angel is part of Mexico City. That might be due to the fact that it wasn t officially included until the 20th century. We will wander around the central Plaza and learn about the history of the area, known in pre-hispanic times as Tenanitla. We will then enjoy a private tour of the Museo Diego Rivera (the Twin Houses). Designed by Juan O Gorman in 1931 for the master muralist, this space became a study house for Diego and his wife Frida Kahlo as well as one of the first functional architectural structures in Latin America. An expert guide will give us an intimate private tour of the world of two of the greatest Mexican artists of all time. We will also visit the Casa Juan O Gorman next door.

We will next travel to the Polanco neighborhood, where we will visit the Plaza Carso, which houses two of Mexico City s most interesting museums: the Soumaya Museum and the Museo Jumex. The Soumaya Museum was designed by the Mexican architect Fernando Romero. Here, your expert guide will add color to the many fascinating installations, which include one of the world s largest collections of archaeological and anthropological artifacts, ranging from prehispanic Mayan civilizations to the Spanish conquest. Other highlights include The Thinker by Auguste Rodin and Río Juchitán, the last mural painted by Diego Rivera. The Museo Jumex, next door, offers five floors with 17,000 square feet of gallery space, with sky-lighted rooms for the permanent collection at the top and special exhibitions one level down. It is a spectacular private art collection that was founded in 2001 and aspires to bring contemporary art to diverse audiences. Along with excellent temporary exhibitions, the museum features works by Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, Gabriel Orozco, Cy Twombly, Jeff Koons, Andreas Gursky, Darren Almond, Bruce Nauman and more. We will enjoy lunch together in the Polanco neighborhood before enjoying the afternoon at leisure. We recommend visiting the intriguing Onora Casa, a design store spearheaded by Maggie Galton and Maria Eladia Hagerman that unites the work of artisans from all over Mexico. Our festive farewell group dinner will take place at the Hacienda de los Morales restaurant. OVERNIGHT: Four Seasons Mexico City Meals Included: B, L, D DAY 5 Fri., June 8 Depart Mexico City This morning, we will enjoy breakfast at the hotel before our transfers to the airport for our departure flight home. Meals Included: B

THIS JOURNEY S HOTEL The Four Seasons Paseo de la Reforma 500; (52) 55-5230-1818; www.fourseasons.com The Four Seasons has been a staple of luxury in Mexico City since the 1990s, and recent renovations ensure that the hotel is still one of the city s best. Located downtown in the Paseo de la Reforma area, the Four Seasons is an oasis for travelers looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle, while the central location is ideal for sightseeing. With a simple and elegant exterior, the property has a quiet entrance and swanky, hip public spaces like the picturesque, verdant courtyard, a lovely place to enjoy an aperitif while listening to live Spanish guitar. The 240 guest rooms and suites have all been recently refreshed, and most offer views of the courtyard (as well as windows that open to let in the evening breeze). The rooms are designed with classic, clean lines styled with modern touches, such as dark wood French doors and abstract carpet designs. While the accommodations are sleek and comfortable, the Four Seasons public spaces are the property s main draw. In addition to the courtyard, guests enjoy the Fifty Mils Bar, which is a sizable space split into several nooks and as a result, it feels more like a private library than a hotel bar. Visitors should also be sure to check out the breakfast scene in the hotel s main restaurant, which draws a chic business crowd. Another perk of the property is the small outdoor pool, which, while familyfriendly, is also a lovely place for adults to relax as well. Classic, elegant and lively, the Four Seasons is perfect for travelers seeking a familiar and comfortable hotel experience that offers a taste of old-world Mexico with a modern twist.
