January 2012 EDITOR: P. J. HAJOS From the Commodore s Bridge Around the Grounds A hoy Corinthians! We had another very nice weather day and a great event to close out the year many thanks to Jean Hannah and her team. Of course the Rock Fish are not cooperating much to the disappointment of many. I predict this weekend the fishing will be great since I have put my boat on the hard for the rest of the winter. Our next event will be the Continuation of the Watch on January the 7 th at the Old State House in Historic Saint Mary s City. We are calling it the continuation of the watch since all but one board member will be returning. We decided to commit to another year since we had unfinished business to take care of and to assure some of the new stuff we put in place had a chance to take root. I am very thankful to the Board for agreeing to stick with it for another year and honored by your vote of confidence in approving the slate. We will provide a state of the club at the event at the State House. Hope to see all of you there. Until then have a great holiday and stay warm. Direction to the Old State House: From the intersection of Rt. 4 & Rt. 235 South on MD 235 Turn right on Rt. 489 (Park Hall Rd.) (W Great Mills has lots of traffic lights) Turn left on MD 5 (Point Lookout Road) Turn right on Old State House Road Jim Tapp, Commodore tappjr@verizon.net 703-937-7414 CYC Membership Meeting Jan. 7 th, 11 a.m. Continue the Watch 47414 Old State House Road St. Marys City, MD -1- C oncurring with the Treasurer s report, Assignment of cottage six will be made to Jim Tapp as the senior member who submitted his application by the December 10th deadline. C Dock down spout was installed to replace the missing one. In addition, the C Dock electric eye will be re-mounted with the eye pointing up. Geoff Baumann trimmed some of the trees on Nov. 19. Chuck O Brien helped pick up the brush and move the limbs with his pickup truck. Phil and Edith, Craig and I also helped clean up the limbs. Ray was up on the A dock roof, caulking around the downspouts and looking for nail holes. Hopefully, he was able to re-seal the areas that were leaking. In regards to the club house kitchen equipment, please let me know when something breaks or needs to be replaced. For instance, there is usually a small sized crab steamer, which is now missing. If the bottom rusted out and was tossed out, please let us know. If you are feeling particularly generous, feel free to replace it. This winter, we will be using the Cleaning Person to do special projects once a month. She will clean the club house windows and other projects. If you have any suggestions, please contact me by email. The Bay Area Disposal will be on its winter schedule, starting in January. Trash pickup will be the Third Friday of the month. Once again, I want to thank those who help clean and fix items at CYC on a regular basis, and encourage others to help keep our club neat and clean.

2011 was a pleasure serving as your Vice Commodore and looking forward to 2012. Craig and I want to wish every member a Blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Note: Ninety Six Days till spring. Paula Hajos, Vice Commodore Home/Office: 301 937-4437 Cell: 240 432-5504 Phajos1@hotmail.com Help is always welcomed, please contact us if you can help. Our next event will be the change of watch, January the 7 th see the flier, I look forward to seeing you all there and in the mean time, may you all have a safe and wonderful holiday season. David Fuchs, Rear Commodore, Home 301 743 5558 Cell 240 222 2359 davegf@verizon.net wk david.fuchs@bep.gov 115 Jenkins Drive, Indian Head, MD 20640 CYC Events Cruising Schedule T he December event was a warm, delightful affair, hosted by Jean Hannah and friends Lyn Beary and Jane Meager. Forty Seven members and guest attended and enjoyed a scrumptious Bavarian lunch provided by R & R Catering. Decorations put us all in the holiday spirit provided with the help of Chuck O'Brien who put the lights on the tree. I won the 50/50 and donated to the family that we support over Christmas. Thanks goes out to all the Corinthians who generously contributed. A huge thanks goes out for the success of this and all the great events of this past season and I am looking forward to next year. Events brings me to next year s event schedule. We still need a few volunteers to either host or assist another host. So far the schedule looks like this: April Event, no host. May Event, no host. June International Pot Luck, hosted by Licatas, Shiers, Tolzmans, Tolles and Rylands July Cheeseburger event, no host. August Luau hosted by Chuck O'Brien, Jim Test and Cathy Schrader, and Tapps. September 50 s & 60 s night hosted by Phil Deming. October Roast beef night, hosted by Chef Geoff Bauman. November Oyster feast no host. Dec. Christmas party, hosted by Jean Hannah. -2- P lease send me your suggestions for 2012 cruises. Possibilities that have been mentioned include a raft-up at St. Mary's, cruise to Windmill Point, and weekend stay at Crisfield. On a personal note, I want to thank my party cohostesses Lyn Beary and Jane Meagher, Chuck O'Brien for tree lighting, and all the CYC folks who helped with clean-up. Jean Hannah, Fleet Captain JHannahOT@aol.com C Membership congratulations to our Board Members for 2012! I look forward to another great year at CYC! Ron and Martha Walters attended the Christmas Party, and we are very close to finalizing their application for membership. We look forward to a formal

welcome at our Continuation of the Watch in January. The official Slate that was elected is: Commodore Jim Tapp, Jr. V/C Paula Hajos R/C Dave Fuchs Fleet Captain Jean Hannah Secretary Dolores Derrington Treasurer Don Foster Measurer Chuck O Brien Trustee Jim Test Trustee Mary Niebuhr Trustee Earl Waesche IPC Phil Deming Winter is a good time to visit other locals and tell people what a wonderful place CYC is. (Do I hear winter cruise?) Bring them down to visit in the springtime, and CYC will sell itself. Be on the lookout for more info regarding the Boat Show in Chantilly, Virginia in March. We could use some helpers to man the booth and tell others it is worth the trip to Southern Maryland. George and Mary Niebuhr are leading the charge, so let us know if you re willing to participate. Many hands make light work. Stay warm and have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year! Dolores Derrington, CYC Secretary 6033 Ridge Ford Drive Burke, VA 22015 703-569-2751 Treasurer s Report Note: To date, 12 Dec. 2011, I have only received lease applications for Cottage 6 from Jim Tapp and Phil Deming. Jim has the seniority so he should fill out a permanent lease for when the cottage is ready to occupy. Financially Jim has been an excellent member paying all bills in a timely manner. We hope he and his family enjoys our newest cottage. Don Foster, Treasurer 703 978 5950 ardoke@verizon.net I Slip Assignments m looking forward to serving you as your Measurer this upcoming year. You ll often find me around the docks so stop by any time to ask about slip status or dock questions. I ll be regular posting on the bulletin board a graphic that shows empty slips, as well as, dimensions, depths and electrical power available at the slips. I might add that a gem for privacy and ultra-safe dockage is over on D- dock. In any weather it s as calm as a bird bath! We have three vacant slips over there that can accommodate a couple smaller boats and one large one. Electric meter readings were recently taken and your electric usage (or, hydro, as my Canadian friends say) through early December will be in the upcoming invoices No permanent or temporary slip assignments were made in December. Keep in mind that temporary assignments are still available for permanent assignment and are included below. We have both covered and open slips available.
