January 2012 EDITOR: P. J. HAJOS From the Commodore s Bridge Around the Grounds A hoy Corinthians! We had another very nice weather day and a great event to close out the year many thanks to Jean Hannah and her team. Of course the Rock Fish are not cooperating much to the disappointment of many. I predict this weekend the fishing will be great since I have put my boat on the hard for the rest of the winter. Our next event will be the Continuation of the Watch on January the 7 th at the Old State House in Historic Saint Mary s City. We are calling it the continuation of the watch since all but one board member will be returning. We decided to commit to another year since we had unfinished business to take care of and to assure some of the new stuff we put in place had a chance to take root. I am very thankful to the Board for agreeing to stick with it for another year and honored by your vote of confidence in approving the slate. We will provide a state of the club at the event at the State House. Hope to see all of you there. Until then have a great holiday and stay warm. Direction to the Old State House: From the intersection of Rt. 4 & Rt. 235 South on MD 235 Turn right on Rt. 489 (Park Hall Rd.) (W Great Mills has lots of traffic lights) Turn left on MD 5 (Point Lookout Road) Turn right on Old State House Road Jim Tapp, Commodore tappjr@verizon.net 703-937-7414 CYC Membership Meeting Jan. 7 th, 11 a.m. Continue the Watch 47414 Old State House Road St. Marys City, MD -1- C oncurring with the Treasurer s report, Assignment of cottage six will be made to Jim Tapp as the senior member who submitted his application by the December 10th deadline. C Dock down spout was installed to replace the missing one. In addition, the C Dock electric eye will be re-mounted with the eye pointing up. Geoff Baumann trimmed some of the trees on Nov. 19. Chuck O Brien helped pick up the brush and move the limbs with his pickup truck. Phil and Edith, Craig and I also helped clean up the limbs. Ray was up on the A dock roof, caulking around the downspouts and looking for nail holes. Hopefully, he was able to re-seal the areas that were leaking. In regards to the club house kitchen equipment, please let me know when something breaks or needs to be replaced. For instance, there is usually a small sized crab steamer, which is now missing. If the bottom rusted out and was tossed out, please let us know. If you are feeling particularly generous, feel free to replace it. This winter, we will be using the Cleaning Person to do special projects once a month. She will clean the club house windows and other projects. If you have any suggestions, please contact me by email. The Bay Area Disposal will be on its winter schedule, starting in January. Trash pickup will be the Third Friday of the month. Once again, I want to thank those who help clean and fix items at CYC on a regular basis, and encourage others to help keep our club neat and clean.
2011 was a pleasure serving as your Vice Commodore and looking forward to 2012. Craig and I want to wish every member a Blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Note: Ninety Six Days till spring. (Do I hear winter cruise?) Bring them down to visit in the springtime, and CYC will sell itself. Be on the lookout for more info regarding the Boat Show in Chantilly, Virginia in March. We could use some helpers to man the booth and tell others it is worth the trip to Southern Maryland. George and Mary Niebuhr are leading the charge, so let us know if you re willing to participate. You ll often find me around the docks so stop by any time to ask about slip status or dock questions. I ll be regular posting on the bulletin board a graphic that shows empty slips, as well as, dimensions, depths and electrical power available at the slips. I might add that a gem for privacy and ultra-safe dockage is over on D- dock. In any weather it s as calm as a bird bath! We have three vacant slips over there that can accommodate a couple smaller boats and one large one. Electric meter readings were recently taken and your electric usage (or, hydro, as my Canadian friends say) through early December will be in the upcoming invoices No permanent or temporary slip assignments were made in December. Keep in mind that temporary assignments are still available for permanent assignment and are included below. We have both covered and open slips available.
