Ever felt like this at a scout meeting? Do you think a frap is something that goes in fancy coffee? Want to learn the Ropes? Are you a frayed knot? If so, come join us on the beautiful Buffalo at Erbie This year the theme for both the Fall Camporee and the Klondike in February centers around the Pioneering merit badge. The badge is complex and there are lots of knots, lashings and splices to learn and things to make!
What you will need to know: Erbie Campground is quite large and made for group camping. Having said that, being boy scouts your troop needs to be prepared to bring the following: Above ground fire pit and firewood Water Any materials for your projects-ropes, poles etc. Every troop will be expected to host an event so remember leaders that a scout is Helpful and set the example for your scouts. EVENTS and Merit Badge requirements covered at the Fall Camporee Requirements for the pioneering merit badge covered on Saturday are: 1. First aid requirement 1, a and b. Page 1 and 2 of workbook 2. Knots and whipping, requirements 2, a and b. Page 3 of workbook 3. Lashings requirement 2c. Page 3 of workbook 4. Splices-requirement 5. Page 6 of workbook 5. Rope making requirement 6. Page 6 of workbook 6. Spanish Windlass -skill game 7. 1 period for working on patrol project of their choice at campsite. Patrol project for fall will be a project agreed upon by the patrol and approved by the scoutmaster. Must include all patrol members. All materials needed for project must be brought with you! We are looking for something larger than a simple camp gadget, Must be patrol size - got it? This is the time to use your imagination and create something really cool and unique! Camp gadgets will be covered as a requirement during Klondike in February. Cardboard oven cooking contest Cooking in a cardboard oven opens up a whole new world of possibilities in the outdoors. Things that are limited by a camping stove or Dutch oven or a campfire are all of a sudden possible! Suddenly you can
cook cupcakes, sheet pan dinners, whatever and you are only limited by your imagination! Categories are open to both sweet and savory! There are many types and many ways to make a cardboard oven, from really, really simple to a bit more involved and complex. Whichever way you decide to go, they all work just fine! Nowadays you can find all the information you need on the Google tube with all kinds of tutorials. Here is a hint for you- you can cook a entire meal for 2 (including dessert) using 1 sheet pan. How s that for variety! Things you MUST have! 1. Medical form 2. Merit badge blue cards----bring a few extra 3. Copy of the Pioneering merit badge worksheet bring a few extra 4. Pens and paper 5. Each scout needs a 3/8 sisal rope (3 strand) for their splices. Once again, bring a few extras, cause you know what will happen! 6. As a patrol decide on a patrol project to pioneer and then bring all the materials-ropes, poles, whatever you need to build and show off your patrols project. This is your time to be creative and WOW the camporee!!!!!! 7. Each scout should have his own frapping stick -remember that points are taken off if your lashings are loose and sloppy! 8. Suggested that each patrol have a copy of the Pioneering MB book 9. Each scout should have his handbook and his 10 essentials.
Fall Camporee Schedule Erbie Friday night 5-9 PM check in 9-9:30 PM Cracker-barrel/SPL meeting 10 PM quiet and eventually lights out! Saturday morning 6:30-8 AM wakeup, breakfast and get ready for the day 8:15 meet at flags 8:30-9:30 period 1 9:30-10:30 period 2 10:30-11:30 period 3 11:30-12:30 period 4 12:30-1:30 LUNCH 1:30-2:30 period 5 2:30-3:30 period 6 3:30-4:30 period 7 4:30-5:00 judging of patrol projects at campsites 5-6:00 dinner at campsites 6:15-7:00 judging of cardboard oven offerings 8:00 til closing--- campfire- have your skit ready 10 PM quiet and eventually lights out! Sunday 9:00 vespers and awards 10:00 pack and go or stay and enjoy the park!
