What is POTS? POTS is a generic name for pedestrian crossings for stand-alone (Mid Block) locations or a pedestrian stream associated with a junction
Why POTS? Changes to the Zebra, Pelican and Puffin Pedestrian Crossings Regulations and General Directions 1997 will phase out the Pelican crossing. This means that the use of the flashing green man / flashing amber will no longer be permitted as part of the light sequence.
When and how do we use POTS? The POTS pedestrian crossing can be used for ; Pedestrian Cycle Horse Pedestrians and cycles can be combined to create a TOUCAN crossing.
When and how do we use POTS? Far-side or near-side pedestrian signals can be used but NOT in combination. High level repeaters can be used with near-side signals. An unlatched pedestrian demand using kerbside detection can be used with near-side signals ONLY. There is provision for a variable blackout period with far-side signals and extending all red period with near-side signals. Zigzag markings to indicate a controlled zone on the approach and exit are required.
