FEBRUARY 2015 WOODLAND DAVIS AEROMODELERS Newsletter FROM THE PRESIDENT Hello again! Thank you to Ed and Mike for taking care of the January meeting while I was off to the AMA convention in Ontario. The convention was dominated by quadcopters of the A6M5 Zero so we we got to look at it in sections which was interesting. The maintenance is a deep inspection, not due to any kind of accident or damage. The first airplane pictured is the first Navy carrier type, the Boeing FB-1. The Army had them as PW-9 s. Pursuit, Watercooled, 9 th type. MacNamara would a loved that designation system. Then of course the P-26A. We did some indoor flying on January 18 th at NorCal Sports in Woodland, and it turned out to be a great this year but there was plenty to look at and several interesting meetings and seminars. On Monday we took a side trip to Planes of Fame. After a good breakfast at Flo s we spent half a day looking at the collection. AT the moment they are doing some serious maintenance venue to fly in. The early Sunday morning time is not the THIS MONTH < continued on page 6 > From the President... John Eaton General Meeting Notes... Mike O Kane Board Meeting Notes... NEWS 5

FROM THE PRESIDENT < continued from page 1 > most convenient but if you are a hardcore indoor flyer it works. Forrest will talk about future events at the meeting so come and join in the discussion. The next club event is on February 27 to March 1 st, the WDA Norcal Pro Bro with rain dates 2 weeks later ( March 13-15 th ). Some of us are flying oldtimer types on the first Thursday of every month at the north control line circle, come and watch or better yet build an old timer and join in. Nor is it too early to start thinking about Rich Geertson s Old School Vintage R/C & Nat'l Model Aviation Day on August 15 th. Build something and join in on the fun flying that got a lot of us into the hobby. There should be a sign up at the intersection of Road 102 and 29 soon, Jeff Lovitt has taken this project in hand. Thanks, Jeff! Once again, a reminder of two items on club operations, both relating to courtesy to our neighbors. Please keep your speed down on the levee road so the minimum dust is generated, particularly in those areas near houses. At all times 35 mph is a good maximum speed to reduce the washboard effect on the road. Gradual acceleration and deceleration are also helpful. When flying, please as much as possible stay away from the northwest corner of our property. The next meeting is at the County Fair Mall, February 9. 5:30 Board meeting, 6:30 general meeting. Bring something for show and tell! 6
