DEAR COMMONWEALTH CLUB MEMBER, Our Belize-Guatemala expedition is particularly exciting for a number of reasons. The geography is truly remarkable with a great diversity of ecosystems, and an abundance of land and marine species. On the human side, there is fascinating variety as well: the region contains many cultures and languages, and a rich history it was part of the great Mayan civilization, some 1500 years ago. This newly enhanced land-and-sea itinerary aboard the 50-cabin National Geographic Quest delivers the best of this region s natural and archaeological wonders. Take to kayaks, Zodiacs, and paddleboards to explore crystalline waters, and land on out-of-the-way cays adorned with sugar-white sand and a scatter of palm trees. Spot rainbow-colored fish, sea turtles, rays, and over 90 varieties of coral as you snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef, one of the largest coral reef systems in the world. And in Guatemala discover the spectacular temples and pyramids of Tikal and Yaxhá, cloaked within the lush jungle. Along the way local experts will unlock the many mysteries of the Mayan people. And you ll share the adventure with many other top experts naturalists, biologists, undersea specialists who will ensure that you get the most out of your journey. You ll also benefit from the Lindblad-National Geographic certified photo instructor, who helps you capture it all in your best photos ever. The entire expedition team looks forward to sharing with you the sights, sounds, and memorable experiences this adventure will bring.
