In recent years, Vietnam has experienced periods of stable economic growth at 5-7% per year and expected to rise continuously. From 2011-2015, the average traffic movement has been increased 11.17% per year. It is estimated that during the year from 2017-2020, the average growth rate of traffic movement will be reached at 17-18 percent per year. Up to 2024, the traffic movement will be expected to be double in comparison with the current traffic movement of 2016. As a unique ANSP of Viet Nam, Viet Nam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has been trying its best to provide air navigation services with high quality and satisfy demands of domestic and international airlines and meet the rapidly development of aviation sector. FOREWORD BY Jeff Poole Director General, CANSO Dear colleagues, Welcome to Ha Noi and the CANSO Asia Pacific Conference 2017. The theme of this conference is Gearing for Growth in the Asia Pacific - Embracing Change, Building Capabilities. During the week we will be looking at some the key ATM issues and opportunities in the Asia Pacific region, exploring the latest processes, technologies and best practices that are changing the way we operate, and agreeing how to effectively harness the power of innovation. Guided by thought leaders and industry innovators, the conference panel sessions will offer different perspectives from across the region and highlight the practical and strategic lessons that can be learnt in order to transform ATM both regionally and globally. In addition, the workshops will address both the safety and operational aspects of managing change and the human factors, exploring the role of the CANSO Standard of Excellence in Safety Management Systems and collaborative use of ATM data in improving ATM. I encourage you to make the most of these opportunities to hear about how the region is transforming, share your views, ask questions, and mostly importantly to learn about how to prepare for and embrace the future. Alongside a number of informal networking opportunities, you will also be able to find out about the latest product innovations and services from Aireon, Aeronav Inc., Easat Radar Systems, Flightyield, Indra, Metron Aviation, NATS and NTT Data in the dedicated exhibition area, so please stop by and talk with the teams. Finally, I would like to offer my thanks to the conference host, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, lead sponsor Aireon, and sponsors Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, Thales and Metron Aviation, for supporting this highly relevant and timely conference. I wish you all the best for a successful event. Sincerely, Jeff Poole Director General CANSO 11

Unbridled growth, changing demographics, new airspace users and disruptive technology are some of the key drivers that will force the pace of change for the air traffic management industry. What are the most critical and urgent changes facing the region s ANSPs and how can they embrace and manage these changes to turn challenges into opportunities to increase airspace capacity and enhance flight safety and efficiency? Panelists: Ms. Pauline Lamb, COO, Airways New Zealand Mr. Kimiharu Banno, Director General, JANS Mr. Tinnagorn Choowong, EVP Operations, AEROTHAI Ms. Teri Bristol, COO, FAA/ATO Facilitator: Mr. Hai Eng Chiang, Director Asia Pacific Affairs, CANSO 12:30-12:45 Introduction of New CANSO Member Mr. Simon Li, Director General, CAD Hong Kong Facilitator: Mr. Hai Eng Chiang, Director Asia Pacific Affairs, CANSO 13

Today, almost half of the world s top 20 airports for passenger and cargo traffic are in the region. As air traffic increases and with the number of aircraft projected to triple over the next 20 years, ANSPs cannot afford to stand still. In the face of such challenges what should be the strategy of ANSPs confronting a capacity crunch? What lessons can be learned and what are the critical capabilities on which ANSPs should focus?
