Tour Itinerary We begin our journey... TUESDAY, OCTOER 2 LOUISVILLE/EN ROUTE We depart Louisville today on our Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta and change planes for the overnight flight to Dublin, Ireland. WEDNESDAY, OCTOER 3 DULIN/ORRIS LD After landing at Dublin Airport your Driver/Guide will welcome you to Ireland. Our day begins with a drive along the coastal road through the lovely villages of Dalkey and Killiney on our way to Powerscourt House and Gardens, a magnificent estate boasting 47 acres of gardens, where we ll have lunch, enjoy a walk in the gardens, and have time to visit the Powerscourt shops. Leaving the gardens we ll drive through the wonderful scenery of the Wicklow Mountains on our way to Glendalough. The glen of the two lakes is a truly spellbinding place; an ancient monastic settlement and two clear water lakes beneath the sheer cliffs of a deep valley carved out by glaciers during the Ice Age. The monastic settlement has been a center for pilgrims and visitors since its foundation by St. Kevin in the 6th century. Afterward we ll journey to orris for overnight. THURSDAY, OCTOER 4 ORRIS This morning we visit Jerpoint Glass, where we ll get an up-close demonstration (and maybe even take a turn at it ourselves!) and can also visit the adjacent shop and gallery. Then we ll take a break in the picturesque and historic village of St. Mullins on the banks of the River arrow. After lunch on your own at The Mullicháin Café, a restored 18th century canal storehouse, we ll head back to orris for a visit to orris House, the jewel in the crown of Carlow. The ancestral seat of the McMorrough Kavanaghs, is still home to the 16th generation of the family. It is not only one of the most beautiful and historic Irish estates, but also one of very few properties that can trace its history back to the royal ruling families of ancient Ireland. After our tour, we ll travel up the road to Carlow rewing, a small, family-run operation whose products, O Hara s Stout and Red, many will recognize from The I In flight meals reakfast L Lunch D Dinner Rover. It s a full day, but save some energy for traditional music this evening in O Shea s pub just down the street from our hotel. FRIDAY, OCTOER 5 ORRIS/KENMARE We depart orris this morning for Kilkenny, one of Ireland s loveliest inland cities. An introduction will take us past the Dominican lack Abbey and St. Canice s hilltop cathedral before reaching Parliament Street, and then travel along High Street to reach The Arcade. From here, you can enter the peaceful grounds of Kilkenny Castle, tour the magnificent Castle, or simply stroll the bustling streets. Just opposite the Castle, be sure to take a peek into the Kilkenny Design Center, a well-curated shop featuring the work of area craftspeople, and other Irish artisans. After lunch on your own, we ll journey to allyvourney, a tiny village at the heart of the small Gaeltacht (or Irish speaking community) of Cuil Aodha (Coolea). We ll stop for pints at the Mills, an atmospheric old coaching inn, and spend some time with Peadar O Riada, a renowned musician, writer, and scholar, and the son of Sean O Riada, Ireland s best known classical composer, who was also a founder of The Chieftains, and the man generally credited with reviving Irish traditional music (and, in case you were wondering, Michael s first cousin). We ll continue our journey southwest to Kenmare, one of the most idyllic places in Ireland, nestled peacefully at the mouth of the Kenmare ay. This evening, you ll be on your own for dinner at one of Kenmare s many great pubs and restaurants. SATURDAY, OCTOER 6 KENMARE Today we get set to explore the unparalleled beauty that is the eara Peninsula, one of Ireland s best kept secrets, with dark folded mountains, colorful painted villages, and tranquil, unspoiled, breathtaking vistas. The eara Peninsula straddles the border of Cork and Kerry in South-West Ireland, and, unlike the Ring of Kerry its better known neighbor to the north it is rarely visited by

tour buses, making for a stunning, but much more peaceful and relaxed drive over the Healy Pass and along the rugged Atlantic coastline. And, of course, we know the perfect place to stop for pints with a view! SUNDAY, OCTOER 7 KENMARE/ENNIS L This morning we depart Kenmare and travel toward Killarney and Muckross House, a nineteenth century Victorian mansion set against the stunning beauty of Killarney National Park. The house stands close to the shores of Muckross Lake, one of Killarney s three lakes, famed world-wide for their gorgeous vistas. Afterward we ll journey to Longueville House, a stately listed Georgian property set in a 500-acre estate near Mallow, County Cork. Now operated by the third generation of the O Callaghan family, this grand but relaxed country house hotel has open log fires, family antiques, and fresh flowers from the gardens. We ll enjoy a proper Sunday lunch (including vegetables from the kitchen garden and cider produced on the estate). Then we ll continue north to Ennis, one of Ireland s most picturesque towns, known for its painted storefronts and traditional music festivals. MONDAY, OCTOER 8 ENNIS LD An amazing day is in store as we travel to the coast to view the majestic Cliffs of Moher, a rocky wall that rises 700 feet above the foaming Atlantic Ocean. Following our visit, we ll enjoy lunch at Tubridy s, a small, family run pub in the pretty village of Doonbeg. We ll then travel down the coast to Loop Head Peninsula, a slender finger of land pointing out to sea from the most westerly point of County Clare. Loop Head epitomizes what the Wild Atlantic Way is about: panoramic cliff views, abundant quiet beauty spots, and fascinating historic sites, including The ridges of Ross, The Church of the Little Ark, and The Graves of the Yellowmen. This evening, we ll travel to Tulla where you can sample a quick jar in one of the village s traditional pubs followed by dinner at Patricia McInerney s restaurant Flappers. Some of the favorite dishes on Rover menus have been courtesy of Patricia, a longtime friend of Michael and Siobhan, so get set to enjoy! TUESDAY, OCTOER 9 ENNIS/DULIN This morning we depart Ennis for the journey to Dublin, travelling first into the heart of Ireland and stopping at Leap Castle, reportedly the most haunted property in this country full of ghosts. One of the longest continually inhabited Castles in Ireland, Leap Castle has a rich and fascinating history, beginning even before the early 1500 s when it was thought to have been built by the O annon clan. The present owner, musician Sean Ryan, will tell us tales of the past and recount his own experiences in the ongoing restoration of the incredible building which is also his home. Leaving the castle we ll continue to Kilbeggan Distillery, established in 1757, and the oldest licensed distillery in the world. We will see how the whiskey is produced using modern equipment in the old buildings and enjoy a sample of the finished product. Then we ll continue across the pastures of Ireland and into the capital city of Dublin and our city-centre hotel. e sure to stick with Michael tonight as he visits some of his favorite hidden spots for traditional music and pints. WEDNESDAY, OCTOER 10 DULIN D This morning our local guide will show us historic buildings of the city, molded through the centuries with many architectural styles. We ll pass the ank of Ireland built in 1729 and formerly the Irish Parliament, the National Museum, St. Patrick s Cathedral and the Four Courts built in the 18th century and now housing the High Courts of Justice. We ll visit Trinity College to view the 8th century ook of Kells, the most richly decorated of Ireland s medieval illuminated manuscripts. Then we ll travel to Kilmainham Gaol. Kilmainham is most famous for the executions of the leaders of the Easter 1916 uprising, but it also housed thousands of men, women, and children on charges ranging from petty offenses to serious crimes. Tonight we ll enjoy a farewell dinner in style at Fade Street Social, one of Ireland s hottest spots, where the celebrity chef, Dylan McGrath will join us for a chat if he s in town. THURSDAY, OCTOER 11 DULIN/louisville I This morning we end our ackroads of Ireland Tour and travel to Dublin Airport for our return journey to Louisville. No better time to reflect on memories to last a lifetime and new friendships made along the way! WELCOME HOME!
