Greetings Unit Leaders Welcome to the 2015 Fall Camporee! Scout Leaders: This year s Fall Camporee will be held at the Oso Lake Scout Camp in the beautiful hills of Rancho Santa Margarita on the border of Mission Viejo. This waterfront scout camp has easy access from the 241 toll road makes the facility easily accessible to all units. The camp is surrounded by O Neill Regional Park and features a 100-acre lake, 15 acres of land (www.osolake.org). This Camporee s going to be a great way to enjoy catch-and-release bass fishing archery and other great activities. We look forward to seeing you there!!! Webelos II are welcome to come to the Fall Camporee and get a sample of what it s like to be a Boy Scout!! A parent/guardian is required with each Webelos. Fishing Merit Opportunity: Fishing Merit Badge Councilors will be available. Signed blue card is required for any merit badge related activities. Registration must be completed on or before the registration deadline stated on the first page of this packet. If you are unable to accomplish this, the unit MUST contact the Camporee chair or designated representative on or before the deadline date. 2. Behavior Guidelines: Participants are to follow the Scout Oath and Law. As well as utilize The Guide to Safe Scouting. The following is prohibited: Consumption of alcoholic beverages, willful property damage, willful injury to another person or adult interference with any Camporee judge or staff member. There is a NO TOLERANCE Policy. Violation of these prohibitions will be investigated and reviewed by the members of the Camporee Committee and the District Executive and may result in immediate expulsion of said person(s) and possible unit disqualification from award considerations. 3. Wildlife Guidelines: Participants are not to bother any of the natural wildlife found in the camp area, (with the exception of catching fish). Scouts and Leaders are expected to follow the Outdoor Code. Rattlesnake sightings are to be reported immediately to Camporee Headquarters. Pacifica District Fall Camporee 2015 3

4. Fishing Derby: See the Activities Section for more detailed information. Please read this carefully. 5. Gateway and Campsite Competition: See page 7 for more info. 6. Scoring: The decision/scoring of the judges for any event is final. Any member of any Unit who contests the decision/scoring will cause the Unit to be disqualified from that event. 7. Patrol Yell: The patrol yell should represent the theme of the Camporee. A tribute will be given for the patrol yell. As a reminder, the Patrol Flag must be with the Patrol at the time the patrol yell is given in order to get the Patrol Card signed off. 8. Trash: Please pack out your trash. Dumpsters are available on site. 9. Youth Protection: It is BSA policy that all adults working with youth must have a current Youth Protection card. 10. Extra points: Units will be awarded 3 extra points for either (a) sponsoring an activity presented by the Camporee Committee; OR (b) developing and sponsoring their own activity. NOTE: A unit developed activity must be approved by the Camporee Committee at least one month prior to the Camporee. 11. Personal Items: Please mark all personal items! There are always a lot of backpacks, jackets, water bottles, flashlights, etc. in lost & found which are unable to be returned. 12. Unit Rosters: At Check-In, please provide A COPY of the unit roster with all attendees listed! 13. Attendees & Pets: All attendees MUST be registered members of BSA. NO siblings, friends, or other family members. NO pets. Service animals are OK, but you need to let us know no later than the registration deadline. Your service animal must be easily identified as such. 14. Uniforms are required. Camporee is a uniformed activity. Scouts are required to wear their Class A Uniforms while attending all events. Class B uniforms will be permitted during the Fishing Derby. Pacifica District Fall Camporee 2015 4

Pacifica District s 2015 Fall Camporee Schedule Friday October 9 th 3:00 pm This is the earliest you may arrive and set up camp. Please do not set up until you receive your designated camp location. 4:00pm Registration opens. Registration closes at 9:00pm 8:00pm Outdoor Movie at amp theater 9:00pm Adult leader and SPL Cracker Barrel at Headquarters. 10:00pm Lights Out. All youth are to be in their campsites and quiet. Saturday 6:30 Reveille 7:30 Registration opens for Saturday arrivals and day use. 9:00 Opening Flag Ceremony 10:00 Start of activities. 10:30 Gateway and Campsite judging begins. 12:30 Break for lunch 1:30 Activities continue 3:00 Activities end. Turn in your Patrol Card Checklist to HQ 5:00 All units break for dinner. Retire Colors 7:00 Order of the Arrow Serpentine 7:15 Campfire sponsored by O/A 8:30 Cracker Barrel 10:30 Lights Out. All youth are to be in their campsites Sunday 6:30 Reveille 7:00 Vehicle loading. 8:30 Interfaith Worship - A Scout is Reverent & Closing Ceremony 9:00 Exit packets available 12:00 Unit should be packed up and checked out SCHEDULE SUBJECT TO CHANGE. Camp Courtesy Campsites will be assigned by the size and needs of the unit. General Rules No electronic games or equipment. Radios, games, DVD, boom boxes, power tools, and generators are not permitted. Please leave these at home. Powered wheelchairs or other devices for persons with disabilities are allowed. Wagons and carts are permitted to move gear to/from campsite. (Suggested if arriving after 7pm Friday night) No sheath knives, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, or firearms. Leave No Trace guidelines will apply at all times Lights out and quiet time at 10:00 P.M. Friday evening. No further camp work permitted other than late arrivals, who may pitch their tents. No ground fires permitted. Charcoal for cooking can be used in an elevated container. Early departure (Saturday night) must be declared at registration. Exit packet will be exchanged at conclusion of Camporee for Scoutmaster/SPL Exit Survey. Fire regulations require that Scoutmasters notify Camporee Staff of any unscheduled departures. Scout uniform attire must be worn. Vehicles will be logged in as they arrive with license plate, Unit type and number. You will be told to move your vehicle if in violation. Vehicles must be parked facing out. No liquid fuel. All medical incidents other than minor cuts and scrapes must be reported to Camporee headquarters. All units must pre-register and pay the camp fees no later than the deadline stated on the registration form. Pacifica District Fall Camporee 2015 6

Gateway Competition Rules This is a Unit Activity. Judging begins at 10:30am Saturday. Requirements & Notes for ALL UNITS: 1. Fishing theme related decorations are encouraged. 1 point will be awarded if decorations are part of the Gateway. We will not judge who has the coolest or did the most, if you made an attempt you will receive 1 point. We are looking for Scout Spirit most of all. 2. No parts may be pre-assembled prior to delivery to the campsite. This is a pioneering project and should be treated as such in your construction. No screws, clamps, bolts, tape or anything other than rope may be used to assemble the gateway. 3. ALL GATEWAYS MUST BE CONSTRUCTED BY YOUTH ONLY (SCOUTS and VENTURERS). ADULT LEADERS MAY COACH AND OBSERVE YOUTH, BUT MUST REFRAIN FROM ANY CONSTRUCTION OR PHYSICAL ASSISTANCE. 4. Webelos Leaders may assist Webelos where safety is involved. 5. Ribbons will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for Webelos, Troops & Crews. 6. At the time of inspection/judging, the judges will announce themselves. Once announced, all adults and all Scouts except the Senior Patrol Leader/President or their designee must immediately leave the campsite and remain at least 100 feet away or out of view from the campsite while judging is occurring. Webelos units are allowed one adult leader to remain at the campsite during judging but camp courtesy rules still apply. 7. The decision/scoring of the judges for any event is final. Any member of any Unit who contests the decision/scoring will cause the Unit to be disqualified from that event. 8. Gateways must be complete by 10:00 AM Saturday to be judged. Standard Gateway Design Requirements for Webelos, Troops and Crews: 1. The Unit must build their gateway according to the District Design shown below. 2. All gateways must be free standing. No stakes may be used in any form to support the gateways. (In the event of high winds, you may stake them down for safety.) 3. Judging will be according to the score sheet shown below the District Design. Open Gateway Design OPTIONAL for TROOPS and CREWS ONL (not an option for Webelos): 1. The gateway design must be posted. The final product must match the posted 2. All gateways must be contained within your campsite area. Guy ropes are permitted for stability of structure only. If guy ropes are required they may not be extended beyond the campsite perimeter. 3. Scouts and Venturers must have a copy of their gateway design posted near the gateway. If not posted in the campsite near the gateway, the design can be stapled or taped to the poles. 4. Structural integrity: When the judges shake your gateway it must be sturdy enough to withstand a stiff breeze without any supports (except when extremely windy); 2 points if no movement, 1 point if a little movement, 0 points if a lot of movement. 5. Lashings (quality): 2 points if everything is neat and properly done, 1 point if they are tight but not neat, 1 point if neat and not tight, 0 points if loose and not neat. 6. Ropes Whipped or fused: Must be able to see the end of the rope; must be whipped or fused within the first 1/2 inch from end of rope; rope ends may not be longer than 1 1/2 inches; fused ends must be tight and completely fused together; 2 points if all ends are whipped or fused, 1 point if 1-2 ends are not whipped or fused, 0 points if 3+ ends are not whipped or fused. Oso Lake House Rules: Oso Lake Fishing Rules (www.osolake.org) This is a catch and release location only. Fishermen must provide their own gear. Live bait is prohibited including worms. Fish must be caught using artificial lures only. No fishing license is required for those over the age of 16 as this is private property. Fishing Derby Competition *Because of catch and release requirements, special judging requirements must be followed. There will be two sets of competition, Scouts and Adults. Trophies will be awarded to the first place winners in each category. All Oso Lake rules must be complied with. (shown above) An adult from your unit must be present to supervise scout fishermen. If you would like to enter the fishing competition, you must do the following: o Register at Camporee Headquarters Saturday morning prior to this event. o Have a tape measure and access to a digital camera to record your catch. * When entering your catch for judging, you must: o Provide a digital photo of your fish against the tape measure showing the length of the fish. o The photo MUST show the entire length of the fish from nose to tail fin. o To preserve the fish, try to leave the fish in the water while getting the camera and tape measure set up. (Supervising adults can help with this) o Photographing your fish must be done quickly to get the fish back into the water as soon as possible. o Identify the type of fish when providing your fish for judging. o Bring you camera photo to Camporee Headquarters for judging by 4:00pm. CAMPOREE REGISTRATION DETAILS Each Unit participating in the Pacifica District's 2015 Fall Camporee must complete the attached registration form and e-mail it by 11:59 pm Wednesday, Sept 30th, 2015 to: camporeepacifica@gmail.com. Camporee Fees: Early Discounted Registration Deadline Sept 25 th : $22 per person Regular Registration After Sept 25 th : $25 per person Onsite registration is $30 per person. Requests for onsite registration must get approval from the Camporee Chair by Oct 2 nd. Camporee fees cover overnight camping for 2 nights, a patch, and all activities. Fee does not cover meals or transportation. Meals, transportation, and camping gear are the Units responsibility. Tour Plan (required because out of District) It is suggested that each driver be in possession of this Tour Plan as well. 4. Show that you have in your possession the Annual Health and Medical Form Parts A&B for each participant both youth and adult (these forms are available on the Council Website) 5. Show that you have in your possession the Guide to Safe Scouting These forms should be given to the driver in the lead vehicle.
