A Busy Flying Season For SFRCF By Royce Tivel It has been a busy flying season for the Sanderson Field RC Flyers (SFRCF). Events so far this year (through July) have included * The Scale Masters Qualifier, May 29-31, * The Olympic Airshow, June 26-28, * Students Visit Sanderson Field, July 10, and * Two Hunter Farms Fly-ins, May 16 and July 12. In addition, several members of Lake Nahwatzel RC Float Club(LNRCFC)--who are also members of SFRCF--participated in two float-flys at Lake Isabella on June 20 and July 11. I have created galleries of images at: http://www.selectdigitals.com which show what these events were like. The following is a short description of each gallery: A Second Fly-in at Hunter Farms -- On Sunday, July 12, the Sanderson Field RC Flyers(SFRCF) held a second, monthly fly-in at Hunter Farms, Union, Washington. The sky was cloudy--and the clouds were sometimes threatening. Still, the breeze was steady down the runway and there was a generous number of sun-breaks throughout the day. The Second Joint TCMAA and LNRCFC Float Fly for 2015 -- On Saturday, July 11, 2015, the Thurston County Miniature Aircraft Assn(TCMAA) and Lake Nahwatzel RC Float Club(LNRCFC) held the second of three joint float events for 2015. The day started out problematical. It was a bit windy and the clouds were threatening. Rain appeared to be on its way. Later, the rain and wind disappeared and the flying conditions remained excellent until the end of the event. Thanks for the great lunch, too, TCMAA. Note: as you can see from the images, there were a lot of mosquitos on the lake (otherwise known as Icons), thanks to Thom Martin, Mark Anderson, and Gordon Osberg. Students Come to Sanderson Field -- On Friday, July 10, 2015, a group of children arrived at Sanderson Field, Shelton, Washington, in a yellow, Hood Canal School District bus. They were treated to an aviation learning experience they will not soon forget. This gallery tells the story of their visit. 2015 Olympic Airshow -- This gallery of images tells the story of the 2015 Olympia Airshow. The gallery includes images of the scale R/C aircraft display and also shows the fire and Page 3 smoke from a jet car as it raced warbirds to the finish line (you had to be there to hear the thunder from the engine). The First Joint TCMAA and LNRCFC Float Fly for 2015 -- On Saturday, June 20, 2015, the Thurston County Miniature Aircraft Assn and Lake Nahwatzel RC Float Club held the first of three joint float events for 2015. The day turned out to be perfect for flying: the sun was out and the lake was calm. The images below will give you a good idea of what the day was like. Scale Masters Qualifier -- This gallery of images tells the story of the Scale Masters Qualifier held at Sanderson Field, Shelton, WA, on May 29-31, 2015. The images highlight the pilots and the beautiful scale planes they flew. A Fly-in at Hunter Farms -- On May 16, the Sanderson Field RC Flyers (SFRCF) held a fly-in at Hunter Farms, Union, Washington: the club s grass flying field is located at the farm. The day was cloudy but the flying conditions were otherwise great. The gallery images are of both the flying and the beautiful environment. Royce
Habitat Takes flight The port manager asked the club to participate in Habitat takes flight, an event to raise money for, that s right Habitat for Humanity. We set up a table for a flight simulator, brought our float trailer out and displayed some of our models and also set up for display flights and buddy boxing over in the field next to the runway. The event wasn t as well attended as hoped but there were lots of planes there including a P-51 Mustang. We didn t have many folks come over to the field for buddy boxing but a lot of people stopped by the display. We had a good time and got some community exposure.
