Monthly Weather Summary in Thailand The monsoon trough lay across lower northern, central and northeastern parts during early month. After that it moved southward to lie across lower central, eastern and upper southern of Thailand. In addition with high pressure area from China occasionally extended its ridge to cover northern and northeastern parts of Thailand since the middle of the month. Besides, typhoon MUJIGAE, 1522 was moving over upper South China Sea during early month. The southwest monsoon which prevailed over Thailand changed to be northeasterly wind since middle of the month. These conditions caused abundant rainfall and floods in some areas of upper Thailand during early month after that rainfall and temperature decreased particularly in northern and northeastern parts that considered as the beginning of the 2015 winter season on October 22. However the southern part obtained abundant rainfall almost the whole month. October rainfall was below normal i.e. northern part 21.7 mm (17%) eastern part 10.5 mm (5%) southern part (east coast) 40.3 mm (16%) and southern part (west coast) 180.3 mm (49%) while it was above normal in northeastern part 3.6 mm (3%) and central part 16.4 mm (9%). Mean temperatures were above normal in all parts. 1 10 October: The monsoon trough lay across lower northern, central and northeastern parts almost the whole period. In addition, the southwest monsoon prevailed over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. The low pressure cell covered central and eastern part during October 8-10. Furthermore, typhoon MUJIGAE in the upper South China Sea made landfall over southern China on October 4. Under these influences, upper Thailand experienced scattered to fairly widespread rain with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas. The maximum daily rainfall of 143.4 mm was measured at Amphoe Khlung in Chanthaburi province on October 4. Flash floods were reported at Phetchabun, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Nakhon Nayok and Rayong provinces. The southern part obtained widely scattered to scattered rain with heavy rainfall in some areas. The maximum daily rainfall of 81.4 mm was measured at Amphoe Mueang in Satun province on October 9. 11 20 October: The high pressure area from China extended its ridge to cover upper Thailand during early period then weakened. In addition, the northeasterly wind prevailed over upper Thailand while the monsoon trough lay across lower central, eastern and upper southern parts. These conditions caused decreasing in temperature in northern and northeastern parts with cool weather in the morning almost the whole areas and cold weather in some areas of the mountainous and mountain top. The lowest temperature of 17.5 c occurred at Amphoe Mueang in Phayao province on October 13 and dropped to 9.0 c at Doi Intanon in Chiang Mai province on October 20. Moreover, upper Thailand received fairly widespread rain with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas on the first day of the period after that rainfall was generally decreasing. The highest daily rainfall in upper Thailand was 159.5 mm at Huai Pong Agrometeorological station in Rayong province on October 12. The southern part obtained scattered to fairly widespread rain with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas. The maximum daily rainfall of 144.6 mm was measured at Yala Agrometeorological station in Yala province on October 11. 21 31 October: The high pressure area from China extended its ridge to cover northern and northeastern parts of Thailand during the first half of the period then weakened. In addition, the northeasterly wind prevailed over southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand almost the whole period. These conditions caused cool weather in the morning in the northern and northeastern parts with cold weather in some areas of the mountainous and mountain top. The lowest temperature of 17.5 c occurred at Umphang in Tak province on October 25 and dropped to 9.0 c at Doi Intanon in Chiang Mai province on October 27. For rainfall, northern and northeastern parts experienced isolated rainfall almost the whole period. While isolated to widely scattered rain occurred in central and eastern parts almost the whole period with heavy rainfall in some areas. The maximum daily rainfall in upper Thailand was 50.0 mm at Amphoe Tha Tako in Nakhon Sawan province on October 21. The southern part obtained scattered to fairly widespread rain with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas. The maximum daily rainfall of 114.5 mm was measured at Tha Sala in Nakhon Si Thammarat province on October 31.
