President s Message One of the best things about our recent national tour was all of the people who helped make it a success. It s fun to see everyone out participating. Kirt and Drea Simpson s August tour to honor his mom and dad brought out a lot of people too. Along with the Horseless Carriage Club there were many Ts along to see the displays at Gillespie Field, go on a short tour around Santee and Lakeside, and have lunch at Histerical Auto Works. Thanks to Kirt and Drea and to everyone who came. Let s keep the Ts out in the sunshine where they belong. The public likes to see them and they need to be kept moving. Years ago when I worked at Gillespie Tower there was a retired guy with this own Beech Bonanza. He flew it around the county three times a week - never really went anywhere. He often visited the tower and we asked him why he went out so often and just flew around. He said, You have to keep the machinery moving or it deteriorates. People and Ts are the same way. Keep yourself and your car out and moving. See you at the September meeting. Nothing to report. Yea! Sunshine Report Remember to call me at 949-492-4255 or email me at judynjohn@burrellteam.com when something happens, so I can send out cards or call. We care about all our members in the San Diego Model T Club. Judy Burrell Club Website Be sure to visit the club s website. Pictures of member s cars and car data are requested. The website can be reached at the following address: mtfcsd.com - - - Special to Club Members Only - - - A Members Only portion of the club website is available to members using a special password which will change fom time to time. Valley Parkway make another right turn and go immediately to the far left lane (3 lane - one way street) and turn left into the Wells Fargo parking lot. If there are tenders at the barricades, let them know you are part of the parade group. 4

Johnny Carroll Blood Drive - August 10 Many cars, many drivers, breautiful weather. A great day. Pictures by Tony Bowker and Eric Sayer 14 cars, including 7 Model Ts, represented Model T clubs and Horseless Carriage Clubs in the San Diego area at the 20th Annual Johnny Carroll Blood Drive. Those who gave a pint (unit) of blood were afforded a ride in one of the antique autos around Balboa Park in an event that has been ongoing for many years. Sponsored by the San Diego Automotive Museum and Air and Space Museum, it was a beautiful day to enjoy San Diego even though the crowd was reported to be quite large. Thanks to all who participated and a special thanks to Gladine Booth for providing a Taco Salad for all to enjoy. 33 units of blood were collected. We Get Letters 5 Winner, Billy Shumate, awarded Trophy In addition to the many comments we received during the Natinal Tour, we have also received several letters of thanks, and are reproduced below: Dear San Diego Chapter and President Greg Rising: Thank you for the wonderful tour you hosted and organized so well. Its one of the best tours we have ever been on and the host club and the people in general were very sociable and went out out of their way to be nice. We want to thank Kirt and Drea Simpson, Bob and Marilyn Bishop, Anne Tunnell, Greg and Cathy Rising, the trouble truck drivers and all that participated in putting on the best tour ever. The tours were very well organized and the book was easy to follow. Grace and I had such a great time on the Modway ship, in Old town the lunch, etc.the trip along the shore and the South Bay tour past Coronado. Wish we had enough time to stop at the Hotel. Thanks you again, Burt and Grace Pope. (Fresno, CA) Dear Drea and Kirt, Not only did we enjoy Americas Finest City Tour, your hospitality was fabulos! Reall feel sorry for MTFCA members that missed not participating. Loved the plactic pouch for tour directins, kept them all clean and neat. I could go on and on with comments about the original and cleaver ideas used. Every thing was so well planned for the tour enjoyment. Fondly, Phyllis Keller, Bob says Me too (Upland CA) : (comments contimued on page 8 )

Echos of the 2014 National Tour - July 12-18 43 Model Ts from the western part of the country participated in the 2014 National Tour sponsored by the Model T Ford Club of San Diego. This was the fourth national tour put on by our club in the 41 years of its existance, each one spaced out by exactly 10 years. In contrast to previous tours where we took the participants on nice Model T country roads, the feelings of the committee this time was that people came to San Diego to see San Diego and so we planned our tours around the city proper without taking anyone on a freeway, a real neat trick. Headquartered at the Four Seasons Hotel near Montomery Field, each day saw the group head out in a different direction. Following the opening banquet on Sunday, the first day s tour took the group north along US 101 through the beach cities as far as Carlsbad. On the way back. the Craftsmanship Museum and the San Dieguito Heritage Museum were visited. Six Model Ts had problems this day and needed the trouble trucks, but four were ready to go the next day. On day two, the route went westward and the places visited were Old Town, Mt Solidad, Point Loma and Shelter Island. Day three was a central San Diego tour to visit the USS Midway Museum which took up a good part of the day. Returning through the Gaslamp Quarter and Balboa Park a good part of senic San Diego was covered. That evening was another banquet which included a special honor given to Lee Pierce for his many years of being a good friend to the Model T community. Day four saw the group headed east, stopping at the San Diego Mission de Acala, the Padre Dam and Lindo Lake in Lakeside. The group went as far east as the Viejas Casino and returned back through El Cajon. Friday s tour went south over the Coronado Bridge, through Coronado and the Silver Strand to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. Day 1 - Beach Scene Day 2 - Old Town Day 2 - Mt. Solidad Day 3 - USS Midway Day 4 - San Diego Missin Day 5 - Coronado Bridge Friday concluded with the final banquet and everyone seemed to appreciate Scot Uran America Family - Finest Potato City Stab Tour. Keep your eyes open for an article with more detail and pictures in an upcoming issue of the Vintage Ford. 6
