OVERVIEW CARD Key Question: Bottom Line: Memory Verse: Bible Story Focus: Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything. With God all things are possible. Jesus can do what is impossible. Walking on Water Matthew 14:22-33 Coloring Page: Jesus walks on the water and helps His friends. Music: Amazing Things Great Big God Praise the Lord Everyday Bible Lesson: The Beginner s Bible Jesus Walks on Water Pages 364 to 370 Story: The Bravest Fish by Matt Buckingham

ACTIVITY 1 2 s/3 s only Walk This Way Have the children walk around the room in different ways. What You Need: No supplies needed Before the Activity: Guide the children to stand in a single file line. You stand at the front of the line. During the Activity: Walk around the room in different ways. For example: walk on tippy toes, giant steps, march, and on hands on knees. Repeat several times. Before the Activity: Let s walk! During the Activity: Everyone line up. We are going to walk around the room. We are going to walk in different ways. Watch this! Watch me and walk like I do. (Do activity.) After the Activity: It was so much fun to walk in different ways. Jesus walked in our Bible lesson today, do you remember what He walked on? (Pause.) Yes! Jesus walked on water. Jesus didn t need a boat. He walked right out on the water! That s so amazing! It is true that all things are possible with God. Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything.

ACTIVITY 2 2 s/3 s only Sink or Float Children will test several items to see if they sink or float in water. What You Need: A large plastic tub filled 3/4 full of water, towel, a Little People male figure, and several items that will sink (like a metal spoon, a toy car, rock, domino, penny, pen and a pair of scissors, etc.) Before the Activity: Fill the container with water. Lay out all the other gathered items on the table for the children to see. Have towel nearby. During the Activity: Point out the tub of water and the items. Talk about each item and let the children decide if they think each one will sink or float. Once they ve made their predictions, let the child take a turn selecting an item and placing it in the water. Make sure you save the Little People figure for the end. Place the Little People figure in the water and point out that every item sunk to the bottom except that one. After the Activity: Pour out the water from the tub when finished. Make sure that you never leave the children unattended around water. Before the Activity: Let s pretend to be scientists and discover which of these things float on the water and which sink down to the bottom. During the Activity: You might notice that I have gathered some items here on the table next to this tub of water. (Point.) I m going to hold up each item and I want you to tell me whether you think this item will sink or float when I place it in the water. (Hold up each item and listen to their predictions.) Okay, now it s time to see if you re right. After the Activity: Out of ALL these items, only one floats. Do you remember which one it was? (Pause and then point to the Little People figure.) You re right, it was this guy! This reminds me of our Bible lesson today. Jesus did something no one else could do. He walked on the water. He didn t sink. Isn t that impossible? Not for Jesus! He can do the impossible. Jesus can do anything even walk on water! Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything.

January Weeks 3 and 4 ACTIVITY 3 - All Boat of Possibility Children will jump in and out of the boat while practicing their memory verse. What You Need: Floor tape Before the Activity: Use the floor tape to create the outline of a boat on the floor. Make the boat outline large enough for the children to jump in and out of. You can shape the boat like a large canoe. During the Activity: Review this month s memory verse together. Then point out the boat outline on the floor and encourage the children to jump into the boat and then jump back out as you all repeat the verse together. Before the Activity: Come sit with me so we can practice our memory verse. During the Activity: This month we re learning that Jesus can do anything! Last week we learned our memory verse, which says: With God all things are possible, Matthew 19:26. Say it with me. (Repeat the verse.) Great job! Do you see my boat here? (Point.) Let s jump in and out of the boat as we say our memory verse together. After the Activity: In our Bible lesson today, Jesus didn t need a boat. He walked right out on the water! That s so amazing! It is true that all things are possible with God. Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything.

The image part with relationship ID rid9 was not found in the file. January Weeks 3 and 4 ACTIVITY 4 4 s/5 s only WOW! Children will complete a science experiment with baking soda and colored vinegar drops. **Be sure to list the items you will be using today on the Allergy Alert Poster and post it at the door to your room. What You Need: Allergy Alert Poster, hanging on entrance door, cake pan, baking soda, vinegar, plastic cups, plastic spoon, blue food coloring, and eyedroppers Before the Activity: Spread the baking soda all over the cake pan. Pour the vinegar in the cup and add a couple of drops of the food coloring. Use the spoon to stir the vinegar until it s blue. During the Activity: Help the children use the eyedroppers to drop the vinegar onto the cake pan. The baking soda will foam and fizz. Be sure each child has a turn to drop the vinegar onto the baking soda. Before the Activity: We are going to do something SO COOL today! During the Activity: There is baking soda in this cake pan. (Point.) Something really cool happens when we put some blue vinegar on it. Let s find out what it does! Squeeze the top of the dropper (demonstrate) into the vinegar and then let go of the bulb. Now put the dropper over the cake pan and squeeze the bulb again. WATCH THIS! (Demonstrate.) WOW! Now you try! (Finish activity.) After the Activity: That was so cool! In today s Bible lesson, Jesus does something way cooler than this. Our lesson today told us that Jesus friends were in a boat in the middle of the water. He wanted to go to them. Do you think He used a boat? Or did He swim? (Pause.) NO! Jesus walked on top of the water. WOW! Can we walk on water? (Pause.) NO! Jesus can do things that we can t do. Jesus is amazing. Jesus is AWESOME! He can do anything even walk on water. Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything!

ACTIVITY 5 4 s/5 s only Walking on Water Children will play a fun game of freeze dance. What You Need: Floor tape Before the Activity: Use the tape to make a boat shape on the floor. Cue the music. During the Activity: Have children line up around the boat and, as the music plays, walk around it. When the music stops, kids will freeze where they are. If they are still moving, they go inside the boat. Repeat as many times as desired. After the Activity: Sit inside the boat and say the Bottom Line together. Before the Activity: Hey, friends! Come stand over here with me. (Pause.) We are going to pretend this is a boat. When you hear the music I want you to walk around the boat and pretend you are walking on water like Jesus did in our lesson today. When the music stops, you have to stop, freeze and keep your eyes on me. If you move once the music stops, you ll get thrown into the boat. During the Activity: (Start the music.) Let s go! Keep your eyes on me. Remember to listen for the music to stop. (Stop the music.) Oh! I see some friends who are still moving! They have to go in the boat! (Help move friends into the boat.) Let s do it again! (Start the music.) Keep your eyes on me. (Stop the music.) Are there more friends that have to go into the boat? (Continue as many times as desired, starting over with everyone.) All right, friends, everybody in the boat. After the Activity: In our Bible lesson today, Jesus did things that we cannot do.

CRAFT WEEK 3 Jesus Walks on Water What You Need: Jesus Picture Activity Page on white cardstock and Week 2 Story Labels, paper plates (1 per child), glue sticks, blue crepe paper, and crayons Before the Activity: You will need one Jesus figure, one strip of crepe paper and one label per child. Place the glue sticks, crayons, and crepe paper in the center of the table. During the Activity: Pass out a Jesus figure to each child to color with the crayons. Then give each child a paper plate. Encourage them to glue the crepe paper on their paper plates to look like the water. (Children can glue the paper in strips or rip apart into little sections.) Guide them to glue their colored Jesus figure to the center of the plate and place a label on the bottom of the paper plate. Before the Activity: Today I want us to create a picture to help us remember how Jesus did something impossible. He walked on water! During the Activity: Let s color our Jesus pictures first. Then we ll glue some crepe paper onto our paper plates and then glue the Jesus picture in the center to show how He walked on water. After the Activity: Your craft looks amazing! This will remind you that Jesus did something impossible. He walked on water! Jesus can do anything. Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything!

CRAFT WEEK 4 Dot Marker Fun What You Need: Jesus Activity Pages on white cardstock, crayons, blue dot markers, and wet wipes. Before the activity: Set out the blue dot markers in the work area. Instruct half of the children to work on coloring the picture of Jesus while the other half use the dot markers to add the blue to the bottom of the picture. During the activity: Give each child an Activity Page. Ask the child where the water should be on their page and encourage them to paint it there. When finished, allow the child to color the rest of the picture with the crayons. Before the activity: (Give each child an Activity Page.) Here is a picture of Jesus, but... uhoh! I do not see any water! Can you tell me where the water is supposed to be? (Pause.) Yes, it is supposed to be right here. (Point.) During the activity: Can you please use the blue dot markers to paint the missing water like this? (Demonstrate.) You can paint the water any way that you would like. You can make waves or very calm water. (Allow children to paint.) Nice job! Now use your crayons to color the rest of the picture. I am so glad that you found the missing water! After the Activity: Your craft looks amazing! This will remind you that Jesus did something impossible. He walked on water! Jesus can do anything. Who can do anything? Jesus can do anything!

SMALL GROUP Small Group Time What you Need: Parent Take Home Card, Playdoh, People Cookie Cutters, Rolling Pins, and Sticker Roll SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): It s Small Group time! Today we re going to splash in pretend water puddles like this (demonstrate), because our Bible lesson was about how Jesus walked on water. We can t walk on water, but we can splash in puddles. Follow me! (Pretend to splash in puddles as you lead the children to your small group spot.) That was fun! Now let s sit down so we can talk about our lesson today. One, two, three, sit down with me! I think it is amazing that Jesus walked on water in our Bible lesson today. The disciples thought it was amazing too. Walking on water is something only Jesus can do. We would sink if we tried to walk on water. But because Jesus can do anything, Jesus can walk on water. Who can do anything? CHILDREN and SGL: Jesus can do anything! SGL: Awesome! Now it s time to pray. Let s sit down together. Walking on water is impossible for us to do. Impossible means we could never, ever, EVER do it. But because Jesus can do anything, He can do what is impossible. Let s make a list of impossible things things we could never EVER do. We can use our list when we pray to thank God that Jesus can do anything even what is impossible! So put on your thinking cap. (Pretend to put on your thinking cap.) When I say your name, tell me one impossible thing that we could never do. Ok, it s time to review our lesson. I am going to ask you some questions and you will get a sticker for answering them. I have some really cool stickers today. Are you ready? (Pause.) Great! (Ask the children the questions from the Parent Take Home Cards. You can also make up additional questions from our video lesson. Don t forget to ask them to say their memory verse for another sticker. You can repeat the same questions over and over as repetition is good for preschoolers.) You are such great listeners! Now I ll pray before it s time to say goodbye until next week.
