OVERVIEW CARD Key Question: Bottom Line: Memory Verse: Is anything too hard for Jesus? Jesus can do anything. Bible Story: Jesus can do what is impossible. Mark 6:45-51 Coloring Page: Jesus walks on the water and helps His friends. Music: Give Your Heart to Jesus Great Big God My Best Friend Bible Lesson: The Beginners Bible Pages 380 to 385 Service Time: 69 minutes

Float or Sink What You Need: A large plastic tub of water, several small objects that float, and several small objects that sink. (Note: Never leave water unattended. Pour it out immediately after the activity is over.) What You Do: Fill the tub half full of water. Hold the objects up one at a time and ask the children to guess whether it will float on top of the water or sink to the bottom of the water. After they make their guess, choose a child to place the object in the water and watch what happens. Do this with each object choosing a different child each time. During the activity: Today we re going to do an experiment. I need you to help me figure out which of these things will float on top of the water and which of them will sink to the bottom. Ready? Tell me what this is. (Hold up the first object.) Yes! Now do you think it will float on top of the water or sink to the bottom? (Pause.) Let s see if you re right. (Pause.) Look! It s (floating/sinking)! Let s do another one! (Continue as long as there s interest.) At the end of the activity: Tell me, what do you think would happen if a person tried to walk on water? Would they float or sink? (Pause.) You re right! A person would sink! Well, guess what! Our Bible lesson today is about a time when Jesus really did walk on water! And He didn t sink! It s something only Jesus can do. I can t wait to hear all about it!

Hop the Hoops What You Need: Three Hula-Hoops. What You Do: Place the Hula-Hoops in a row on the floor. Show the children how to jump from one hoop to another while saying two words of the Memory Verse each time they hop to a different hoop. (Options: Zigzag the hoops, put more distance between each hoop, jump sideways rather than straight forward, etc. Keep changing it up and playing as long as the children are interested.) During the activity: Watch what I can do! (Jumping from hoop to hoop as you say each word of the Memory Verse) With God- All Things - Are Possible! Can you jump from hoop to hoop while saying With God - All Things - Are Possible? Sure you can!

What You Need: Jesus and Water from the Activity Pages on the Website, jumbo craft sticks, glue sticks, and crayons What You Do: Before the activity: Make a copy of Jesus and Water from the Activity Pages onto white cardstock for each child. Then pre-cut the dashed line in the middle of the page, making sure you do not cut past the line so that the edges of the page stay connected. (Note: Make sure to have a completed Activity Page so that you can show the children how to stick the craft stick through the slit in the paper and move it around. You will also need one to do the rhyme at the end of the activity.) During the activity: Give each child a copy of Jesus and Water and instruct them to color the picture of Jesus and the water. Next give each child a jumbo craft stick and show them how to glue their Jesus cutout to the stick. Once each child has their Jesus cutout glued to a craft stick, they are ready to push their Jesus up through the slit in the page and move it side-to-side. This will give the appearance that Jesus is walking on water. Before the activity: on water is pretty amazing! I mean, no one can walk on water except Jesus! Jesus can do anything, just like in our Bible lesson today. That was such an amazing lesson! We re going to make something that will help us tell people how Jesus walked on water. During the activity: First, I want you to color this picture of Jesus and all of the water. Now I m going to show you how to glue your picture of Jesus onto one of these craft sticks. (Demonstrate.) Watch what happens when I put my Jesus through this slit in the water on my page. (Push the craft stick through the paper and move it side-to-side.) See? Jesus is walking on water! At the end of the activity: (Hold up a completed craft and encourage the children to do the same with their craft. Move your Jesus figure side-to-side as you say the rhyme below. Encourage the children to repeat after you as you say each line.) Jesus stayed back so He could pray. His friends sailed away in a boat that day. A storm came along and rocked the boat. Jesus walked on water, just like a float! He didn t sink or have to swim. No one can do that! No one but Him! Jesus can do anything! Yes, it s true! I love Jesus! How bout you? (Repeat as many times as desired.) What a GREAT lesson we heard today! Tell me, is anything too hard for Jesus? (Pause.) No! Jesus can do anything! You can take your craft home with you today and use it to share our lesson with your family and teach them that Jesus can do anything!

Pin the Sail on the Boat: What You Need: Large Construction Paper Boat, Sails, Blindfold, and Tape. What You Do: Tape the boat onto the wall. Explain to the children that they are going to be blindfolded, turned around and then they will have to try and put the sail on to the top of the boat s mast. Have the children stand in a line. Roll a piece of tape and put it on the back of each sail and give it to the child. Blindfold the first child in line. Turn the child around three times, then face him toward the boat. Tell him to walk straight and put his sail on the boat. During the activity: Who can tell me about the Bible lesson that we learned today? Who was in the story? (Pause.) Yes, Jesus and his friends. What were they riding? (Pause.) Yes, a boat. Maybe, a boat like this one on the wall. But the boat on the wall doesn t have a sail. We are going to need to put a sail on it. To make it even more fun, we are going to try to do it without using our eyes. Everyone is going to have a turn so hopefully one of us will place it in the correct spot. Are you ready for some fun?

Don t Fall What You Need: Masking tape or colorful painter s tape. What You Do: Use the tape to make several different designs on the floor that the children can walk on like a balance beam. Make the designs challenging enough so there is some level of difficulty for the children to keep their balance as they follow the lines. Encourage the children to walk each of the lines without falling off. (Continue as long as there s interest.) Before the activity: Jesus did something really hard in today s Bible lesson. What did He do? (Pause.) Yes! Jesus walked on water. That s something hard only Jesus can do. Is anything too hard for Jesus? (Pause.) No! Jesus can do anything! I have something kind of hard for us to do today. We won t be walking on water like Jesus did, but I do have some pretty crazy lines for us to walk on. Let s see if we can walk these lines without falling off! (Continue as long as there s interest.) At the end of the activity: Whew! That was harder than I thought! It wouldn t be too hard for Jesus though, would it? No way! Is anything too hard for Jesus? (Pause.) No, sir! Jesus can do anything!

CRAFT Watercolor Fun What You Need: Water from the Activity Pages on the Website, white cardstock, crayons, blue watercolor paint, paint brushes, water, and wet wipes. What You Do: Before the activity: Copy Water from the Activity Pages on cardstock for each child. Set out the paint and the paintbrushes in the work area and then pour a little amount of water onto the paint and mix it in with the paint brush. During the activity: Give each child an Activity Page. Ask the child where the water should be on their page and encourage them to paint it there. When finished, allow the child to color the rest of the picture with the markers. Before the activity: (Give each child an Activity Page.) Here is a picture of Jesus walking on the water, but uh-oh! I do not see any water! Can you tell me where the water is supposed to be? (Pause.) Yes, it is supposed to be right here. (Point.) During the activity: Can you please use the blue paint to paint the missing water like this? (Demonstrate.) You can paint the water any way that you would like. You can make waves or very calm water. (Allow children to paint.) Nice job! Now use your crayons to color the rest of the picture. I am so glad that you found the missing water! At the end of the activity: I love our pictures that show how Jesus walked on the water. You can show your family this picture and tell them all about today s Bible lesson. Can you walk on water? (Pause.) NO! Can I walk on water? (Pause.) Nope! Only Jesus! Is anything too hard for Jesus? (Pause.) Nope! Jesus can do anything!

SMALL GROUP Small Group Time What you Need: Smile Jesus Loves You Stickers and Bible SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): Have you ever seen a person walk on water? (Pause.) I haven t either. on water is impossible for you and me! But Jesus walked on water in our Bible lesson today and it s a true story! Jesus can do what is impossible! Is anything too hard for Jesus? CHILDREN and SGL: No! Jesus can do anything! SGL: He sure can! Jesus can do anything because with God, all things are possible. Let s stand up and say our verse together with the motions. CHILDREN and SGL: With God all things are possible, Matthew 19:26. (Repeat the verse and motions a few times.) SGL: Way to go! I think you have it! We ll practice that verse every week and I ll have a sticker waiting for you when you practice it. Would anyone like to try and say it all by yourself? Give each child the opportunity to say the verse. Make this a special time for them and reward them with a sticker.
