Festival Images, from 8 30 September 2012 Opening on 8 September Following on from the success of its two previous editions, the visual arts Festival Images will once again occupy the streets from 8 to 30 September. As the first to have hosted an open-air photography festival in Switzerland, Images is to present some ambitious projects, previously unseen installations, international artists and young talent, all resulting in a Vevey that changes its decor in September! Images is the first to have organized an open-air photography festival in Switzerland and one of the most important event of that type in Europe. Happening every two years, the event is entirely free with a programme based around the contemporary photograph, favouring monumental as well as one-off installations, exhibited indoors and outdoors. 2010 in a few numbers - 5000 m² of exhibition space in the temporary museum (Ex-EPA) - 30,000 visitors indoors and close to 80,000 outdoors in three weeks - 50 projects and over 15 countries represented - 500 m² of canvas for Li Wei s work - More than 400 prints created for the Festival - 14 monumental images by JR (project Unframed) the largest measuring 40 metres in height The following information is subject to an embargo until further notice. FESTIVAL IMAGES 8-30 September 2012 Outdoors As with previous editions, outdoor exhibitions all have a common, yet undefined, theme. Invited artists have in common their work based around photography, their studio and the image s backdrop but especially their reinterpretation of these notions. This common theme also reflects the Festival s ethos : to surprise by occupying unusual spaces and by building previously unseen installations. In September 2012 Vevey will experience a Change of Decor. Indoors Unlike the outdoor exhibition, each area indoors has a defined theme. Along with other display areas, the Ex- EPA building s 5000 m² will once again be used to showcase images. The entrance way is to be entirely redesigned in collaboration with the industrial design students from ECAL, Lausanne s University of Art and Design, so as to provide an improved reception. The Festival also continues its collaboration with some of Vevey s public institutions such as the Swiss Camera Museum, the Historical Museum, the Jenisch Museum, the CEPV (Vevey s Centre for Professional Study), l Espace Quai1 etc. Some artists and projects exhibited indoors: Shoot! with, amongst others, Christian Marclay, Andres Serrano and Roman Signer Ackroyd & Harvey (UK) Sohei Nishino (Japan), a special Festival Images project about Bern And also: Yello & Dieter Meier (Switzerland), Cyril Hatt (France), Chuck Samuels (Canada), «Révolution à Vendre» a project around the picture of Ernesto «Che» Guevara by René Burri (Switzerland), JR (France) and many more!
The Competitions Every two years, the Vevey Foundation issues bursaries to stimulate creativity worth a total of 100,000 CHF (approximately 70 000 ) in the areas of photography and cinema. During each edition, Vevey s international photography Grand Prix attracts more than 1000 candidates from around the world. The works created thanks to these grants are exhibited at Festival Images.
