KNSE Ground Operations
Clearance Delivery (UHF preset Ch2) File flight plan with Base Operations via: DD 175 Military Flight Plan North Whiting Stereo Route (pre-determined flight plans) Normally call Clearance Delivery after obtaining ATIS (Ch1) Provides flight clearance for VFR or IFR departures to include destination, route, and altitude (as filed on flight plan/stereo route) Makes your filed flight plan active in the National Airspace System (NAS) Various ATC stations can now see your flight plan Does not open your flight plan meaning you have departed your origin airport Flight plans will time-out of the system if not opened Issued clearances Given in CRAFT format: Clearance limit/route/altitude/frequency/transponder Must read back
Clearance Delivery (UHF preset Ch2) If filed via a stereo route: North Clearance, Texan 123, _NSE2 <stereo route> clearance on request, ready to copy. Clearance: Texan 123, you are cleared to the North MOA via the NSE2, on departure climb and maintain 4,500, expect higher in 10 minutes. Departure will be on Ch6, squawk XXXX. If filed via a DD-175: (read back clearance) North Clearance, Texan 123, IFR/VFR to <destination>, clearance on request, ready to copy. If departing VFR with no route filed: North Clearance, Texan 123, VFR to <working area>, <time enroute>.
Stereo Routes Pre-determined flight plans for ease of filing Most common destinations & profiles Find in In-flight Guide & FWOP Call in to Base Operations prior to walking to aircraft (aircraft callsign & stereo route)
Ground Control (UHF preset Ch3) Controls the movement of aircraft and vehicles on aerodrome Does not control the duty runway Provides non-radar flight following via flight plan (closes/opens)
Ground Control (UHF preset Ch3) To taxi out of parking: North Ground, Texan 123, B22 <parking spot>, taxi with Echo <ATIS>. Ground: Texan 123, taxi to the primary/alternate run-up, advise further taxi. To taxi out of run-up to runway: North Ground, Texan 123, primary/alternate run-up, further taxi. Ground: Texan 123, runway XX, taxi via <applicable taxiways>, cross runway XX <if applicable>. (read back clearance) Common taxi clearance routes: Rwy 05: (alternate run-up area) Taxi via Alpha Rwy 14: Cross rwy 5-23, taxi via Bravo, Delta Rwy 23: Cross rwy 14-32, taxi via Echo Rwy 32: Taxi via Gulf, Foxtrot
Taxi Rules All taxiways are bi-directional Outbound traffic has right of way and will follow the most direct route to the ground run-up area using the hub Taxi single file with minimum of one aircraft nose-to-tail separation (except formations) No taxi within 50 of fueling operations In line area, taxi no faster than walking speed (7 kts max) Outside line area, taxi no faster than a run (12 kts max)
Parking Rows & Outbound Flow West Line Parking Alpha thru Delta Rows Spots 1-26 Rows A-C Flow Turn right out of parking Spots 1-5 may back taxi (left turn out of parking) to alt run-up via taxiway Alpha May have to back taxi to another row if fuel truck blocking your main row Row D Flow Turn left out of parking then proceed down first available row (A-C) Spots 20-26 may back taxi (right out of parking) Solo students not allowed to back taxi
Parking Rows & Outbound Flow North Line Parking Fox thru Hotel Rows Spots 1-21 Rows F-H Flow Turn right out of parking May have to back taxi to another row if fuel truck blocking your main row Solo students not allowed to back taxi
Outbound Taxi Routes Look out for people/vehicles while taxing down parking rows Use caution for other acft when exiting rows Hub/Run-up areas are high traffic areas Elev: 200 Pass other traffic (ahead of you) only if they are stopped and you receive clearance to do so by Ground Primary Run-up Rwys 14/23/32 utilize primary run-up Rwy 05 utilize alternate run-up Alternate Run-up
Primary Run-up Main run-up area heading 050 - Fill in West to East Rwy 14 - Fill in East to West Rwy 23/32 Overflow run-up heading 230 - Fill in East to West Primary Run-up To Rwy 23 To Rwy 14 To Rwy 32

Takeoff & Departures
Control Tower (UHF preset Ch4) Controls the movement of aircraft on duty runway and in pattern Controls airspace from SFC to 4,200 / approx 5 NM around airfield on the north side Point Waldo (west) & Point Easy (east) used as entry points
Approaching Runway 200 prior to hold short line change to Tower frequency (Ch4) Call Tower for takeoff or when #1 or #2 in sequence at the hold short: North Tower, Texan 123, rwy 05, #1 ready for departure (IFR when applicable) North Tower, Texan 123, rwy 05, #2 ready for departure, (IFR when applicable) Notes: All student solo will stop prior to calling Tower Aircraft departing IFR from app end of rwy 14/32 will position on the outboard side of the taxiway to avoid blocking VFR departures (day only) Aircraft may stagger at the hold short line
Takeoff Instructions Tower will direct cleared for takeoff, line up and wait or hold short Read back all instructions to Tower Do not spend excessive time on runway (line up checks / power up) If cleared to line up and wait, do not power up until cleared for takeoff
Home Field Departure Over upwind numbers turn : - Runway 05/14-010 - Runway 23/32 340 Do not penetrate South Whiting airspace without approval from Tower. KNSE Waveoff Given by Tower, RDO, wheels watch, or in some cases other aircraft, requires mandatory compliance Should execute if unable to land in first 1500 of runway or anytime an unsafe situation developing Mandatory or elected waveoff shall climb to pattern altitude over the runway unless otherwise directed by North Tower Request clearance from the tower to turn downwind for landing and comply with tower instructions Recheck the landing checklist and follow normal landing procedures
KNSE Delta Emergency Orbit Pattern used for visual inspection or special assistance Example Delta Rwy 14 Racetrack pattern similar to OLF Delta Pattern 2500 MSL 120 KIAS, gear down, flaps up Primarily for landing gear inspections When ready to depart, notify Tower and follow instructions
Taxi Back When clear of the duty runway: Aircraft shall stop Accomplish first 3 steps of After Landing Checklist Contact Ground (Ch3) (Technique: remember first 3 to channel 3 ) Completing the rest of the checklist while taxiing is at pilots discretion Ensure you allow sufficient space on the taxiway, after clearing runway, for aircraft landing behind you
