BACKGROUND INFORMATION Environment Agency Austria in Twinning Projects According to the principle of country partnerships ( Twinning ), Umweltbundesamt (Environment Agency Austria) is supporting new and future EU Member States in developing national administration and legislation according to EU standards. New Member States are supported by Twinning projects during the first years after their EU accession. Since 2007 the Environment Agency Austria has also been involved in the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI), a broad political strategy which has as the ambitious objective the strengthening the prosperity, stability and security of Europe's neighbourhood in order to avoid any dividing lines between the enlarged EU and its direct neighbours. The Environment Agency Austria along with other Austrian administrative institutions is actively involved in such partnership projects on environmental topics. General Status April 2018 Since 1999, the Environment Agency Austria has implemented more than 110 successful Twinning projects with all EU Accession Countries and New Member States, as well as European Neighbourhood countries East (Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan) and South (Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Algeria and Israel).
