No Webelos is allowed to register by himself; he must be registered with a Den attending the Camporee. Webelos and AoL dens are welcome at this year s Camporee. It is recommended that Webelos Dens attending for the weekend bring no less than a 1:4, adult to Webelos ration, with a minimum of 2 adults attending at all times. Webelos and AoL scouts may not be permitted to participate in some events due to safety considerations and BSA rules set forth in the Guide to Safe Scouting. Leave No Trace: This is a Leave No Trace event; we would ask that you follow the 7 LNT principles to the fullest. They consist of the following: Plan Ahead & Prepare, Travel & Camp on Durable Surfaces, Dispose of Waste Properly, Leave what you Find, Minimize Campfire Impacts, Respect Wildlife, and Respect Other Visitors. More on Leave No Trace can found online. Emergency Procedures: The Buddy System should be used by all your participants go prevent any lost/missing persons. Emergencies and serious first aid incidents must immediately be reported to the Camporee First Aid Officer and the Camporee Program Director. If calling 911 is necessary, they will be the ones to make the call. The First Aid Officer will have a clearly visible area to treat minor ailments, one station in the main camping area and the other at the Camporee Headquarters. CAMPOREE COMPETITION The Scouts will compete in Camporee games during the day on Saturday. The boys will compete in patrols of 6-8 and should have a name in mind for their patrol before the games begin. Most of the events will involve skills, tools, and equipment that was available to the average scout 100 years ago. One exception will be the First Aid event which will have a modern theme. The games listed below are what we are planning at this time. Due to weather or other circumstances, we may have to alter events for the safety of the scouts. 1. Saw a Log: The boys will use a two man cross cut saw to cut a green pine log in half. Scoring will be based on the time it takes to saw the log. 2. Bore a Hole: The boys will be given a 1 inch auger with handle to bore a hole in a green pine log. Scoring will be based on the time it takes to bore the hole through the log. 3. Build a Shelter: Materials similar to those that might have been available to the average scout 100 years ago, will be made available to the scouts. They will then be asked to build a shelter that would keep them dry, withstand a moderate wind, and is safe to occupy. Judging will be two fold. Time to erect the shelter will be primary followed by judging of the three categories listed. 4. Move a Heavy Object: Scouts will be provided with two 2 rope blocks, a rope, a diagram showing how to thread a block and tackle, a stationary object with connecting chain or rope loop, and a heavy object with chain or rope loop to move. Scoring will be based on elapsed time to complete the movement of the object with a correctly threaded and assembled block and tackle. 5. Flint and Steel Fire Starting: Scouts will be required to start a fire with flint and steel and burn through a fairly heavy string. Matches will be made available to patrols if they are not familiar with flint and steel or have not been successful with the flint and steel. Flint and steel will be provided. None of the modern friction sparkers commonly found in stores today will be allowed. Scoring will be based on elapsed time needed to burn the string. The use of matches time penalty will be announced at the SM/SPL meeting Friday night of the Camporee.

6. First Aid: A modern first aid event will be held. We don t want to use first aid techniques from 100 years ago. Scoring of the first aid event will be determined by those running the event. 7. Tomahawks: There will be a tomahawk competition. Scoring will be determined by those running the event. This event is only open to boy scout and older youth. 8. Slingshot: There will be a sling shot competition. Scoring will be determined by those running the event. 9. Archery: This event is open to Webelos patrols. Scoring will be determined by those running the event. 10. Ring the Bell: This event will involve ringing a bell suspended 11 feet off of the ground. The bell must be made to ring by touching it with a body part. No small scouts are to be launched at the bell. Scoring will be based on elapsed time needed to ring the bell. 11. Compass Course: Bring a compass. No smart phone or other electronic compasses will be allowed. Scouts should be familiar with the workings of a compass as well as declination. Scoring will be decided upon by those running the event. Additional competitions: 1. Campsite judging: Campsites will be judged during the day on Saturday. Things such as campsite gateways, flag displays, fire safety, first aid equipment, sanitation, and overall campsite organization, will be considered. Judging forms will be provided to the SPL s Friday night. 2. Scout Cooking: We all know scouts are great cooks. Nothing is better than a meal cooked by the scouts after a day in the outdoors. Therefore, we are asking scout to submit a sample of their wonderful cooking to the judges at the HQ tent as they prepare for their evening meal. There will be two categories. 1. Desert. 2. Everything else. Judges will consider presentation, correct temperature as applicable, and taste. Ribbons will be awarded Sunday morning after the chapel service. 3. Question and Answer Scavenger Hunt: There will be a Q&A scavenger hunt event. Ribbons will be awarded Sunday morning.
