Getting started Unpacking & Contents Inspection Carefully remove all components from the box. Please check all items against the list below. Any damage or missing components should be reported to Evadale Healthcare. Trigger Gun Hose Connector Hose Buffer Mounting Kit: Washers Wall Plugs x4 x8 20m Hose Masonry Bolts Coach Screws Retractable Hose Reel x4 x4 2m Leader Hose x4 Lockable Mounting Pin Mounting Bracket Tap Adapter Orange and Grey thread Hose Connector Choosing a Location Place the Hose Reel in a sheltered position (where possible) extreme heat may damage the hose retraction mechanism, and very low temperatures may cause the hose to be less flexible, making it difficult to retract. You need to position the hose reel within one and a half metres of a working tap. The mouth of the reel should be mounted level with the hip height of the user. Think carefully about where to mount your Hose Reel within this range, to ensure the maximum 20 metre range can be used. 180 The box should contain the following items: Retractable Hose Reel assembly, includes 20m Hose with Hose Connector and Hose Buffer; 2m Leader Hose with Hose Connector and Universal Tap Connector Trigger Gun Mounting Bracket Lockable Mounting Pin Mounting Kit, including 8 Coach Screws, 4 Washers, 4 Masonry Bolts and 8 Wall Plugs Installation and Operation Manual (this document) Mounting Bracket Template Warranty Information 1.5 metre max hip height Make sure the leader hose does not kink when in use Make sure the reel can swivel 180
Installation The top of the mounting bracket should be positioned level with the hip height of the user. Make sure there are no obstructions to the full 180 swivel range of the reel. Mounting to a timber surface Mount the Mounting Bracket to a timber surface using the coach screws; 2 sizes (of coach screws) are included. Use the wall plugs when working with softer or less durable timbers. Mounting to a masonry wall surface Mount the Mounting Bracket to a masonry (brick, stone or concrete) surface using the masonry bolts. Alternatively, use the screws and wall plugs to reduce hole size (and reduce damage) or when working with less robust masonry surfaces. Make sure the fixings are secured to the bricks or stonework, not the mortar or grouting. Installing the Mounting Bracket A mounting template sheet is provided to help you correctly position the mounting bracket. Based on the hip height of the user, measure the correct mounting position and secure the template to the wall. Then drill through the crosshairs using the suitable drill bit. This will ensure your bolt holes are correctly aligned. Remove the template sheet then fix the Mounting Bracket to the surface using the appropriate fasteners. Attaching the Hose Reel Slide the Hose Reel over the Mounting Bracket, ensuring the holes are aligned. Insert the Mounting Pin through the holes. A padlock (not supplied) can be used to secure the Hose Reel against theft secure through the holes at the bottom of the Mounting Pin. A split pin, cable tie or similar may also be used to secure the Mounting Pin. Attaching the Leader Hose Disconnect the Tap Adapter from the end of the Leader Hose. Screw the Tap Adapter onto your tap. Please note, the Tap Adapter comes in two parts to accommodate different sized taps. Use both the orange and grey components if connecting to a ¾ (19mm) threaded tap, or use only the grey fitting for regular 1 (25mm) threaded taps. Attach the Leader Hose Connector onto your tap and click into place. Attaching the Trigger Gun Attach the Trigger Gun onto the hose. The Trigger Gun can remain on the hose, even when not in use. Orange 19mm/¾ Grey 25mm/1 Leader
Operation The first time hose is used, turn on tap and pull trigger to ensure all air is cleared from the hose. To Extend the Hose Hold the Trigger Gun and gently pull the hose by the Hose Buffer, to the desired length. Do not exceed the maximum length of 20 metres. 20m hose To Use the Trigger Gun Nozzle Flow Control Trigger Trigger lock warning strip Stop pulling when you see the orange warning strip or if you feel resistance. To Lock the Hose The Hose Reel has a unique locking mechanism that allows you to lock the hose at any length. Pull the hose out to the desired length and gently release to lock. The hose may retract slightly before the locking mechanism engages. To Retract the Hose Turn off water supply and release all pressure from the hose. To begin retraction, gently pull the hose out no more than 5cm. This will initiate the automatic retraction mechanism. Hold the hose and gently feed into the reel during retraction. The unit includes a self-layering mechanism to rewind the hose in an even layer across the spool. Once the hose is fully retracted, pull the trigger to release any remaining pressure. If the hose is twisted or kinked, extend the hose to the maximum extension range and then allow to retract smoothly and evenly. Refer to retraction tips for more help. With the tap turned on, use the trigger gun to control the flow of water. Pull gently on the trigger to start water flow and release to stop. The trigger can be locked for ease of continuous flow. Simply hook the trigger lock over the end of the trigger. The strength of the water flow can be adjusted using the flow control dial at the rear of the trigger gun. When pointed directly up the water flow is at maximum. Turn the dial clockwise to decrease the strength of the water flow. Maximum flow Minimum flow The strength of the spray can be adjusted using the front nozzle. With the nozzle fully screwed in, water is turned off. Unscrew the nozzle lightly to achieve a fine broad spray or unscrew all the way to achieve a tight firm jet stream.
Cleaning and maintenance Basic Troubleshooting You ve followed these tips but are still experiencing difficulties when trying to retract the hose. The hose may lock constantly, be sluggish to retract, or no longer retract fully. Follow these basic steps to reset the retraction mechanism. Step 1 Turn the water off at the tap. Pull the hose out an extra 1 to 2 metres before again trying to retract the hose. Step 2 Squeeze the trigger gun to reduce the water pressure. Fully extend the hose until you see the orange warning strip, and then retract. Basic Cleaning and Maintenance Keep your hose reel in good working condition with some basic weekly maintenance. 1 Remove the trigger gun (or nozzle accessory) from the hose so that any water is free to escape. 2 Fully extend the hose and then retract, gently holding a damp cloth or towel around the hose close to the mouth to wipe away any dirt, leaves or grass. Be careful not to allow the cloth or your fingers to be pulled into the reel. 3 Hose down the outer reel casing to remove any dirt or debris. The casing can also be wiped with a damp cloth. Do not flush the inside of the hose reel. End of Life Disposal Due to the tightly coiled spring DO NOT disassemble the product for recycling. Dispose of the unit according to your council regulations.
Retraction Tips To help get athe most out of your Evadale Hose Reel, here are some tips to help when retracting your hose. Pull out no more than 5cm. Hold the hose and gently feed in. Once retracted, squeeze the trigger gun again to remove all remaining water. 1 Make sure there is no water in the hose Turn off water at the tap; then squeeze the trigger gun to release the last water from the hose Too much water pressure in the hose can make retraction difficult 2 Stand 2 metres from the hose reel For optimum control, stand approximately 1 to 2 metres away from the hose reel to initiate retraction The further from the hose reel, the harder it may be to initiate retraction 3 Stand directly in front of the hose reel Stand squarely in front of the hose reel unit, so the hose feeds straight into the mouth An angled hose will be harder to retract 4 Keep the hose level with the reel Try to keep the hose at right angles to the reel, so the hose is level as it feeds into the mouth An angled hose will be harder to retract 5 Don t pull back too hard Pull the hose gently backwards about 5 cms (or 2 inches) to initiate retraction; if you pull too hard the reel will lock instead Too hard or sharp a pulling motion will cause the reel to lock 6 Hold and feed the hose as it retracts Feed the hose back into the reel with a hand over hand method. Keep control of the speed of the retraction rather than letting it go. Letting go may cause the hose to retract in an unbalanced manner, possibly causing damage or injury
frequently asked questions How do I retract the hose? Make sure you release all pressure from the hose before retracting. For optimum control, stand approximately 1 2 metres away from the reel, squarely in front of the unit, to initiate retraction. Try to keep the hose level with the mouth while pulling it out or retracting. Gently pull the hose out (no more than 5cm) to start the automatic retraction mechanism. You many need to try again if the auto retract doesn t engage at first. Do NOT let go of the hose. Hold the hose and gently feed into the reel during retraction, keeping hose level with mouth where possible, If the hose is twisted or kinked, extend the hose to the maximum extension range before retracting. Will the hose kink? The short answer is yes. However, this hose has been specifically designed for use in an auto rewind hose reel unit and must be soft and pliable so that it retracts easily back into the unit. Because you only pull out what you need, you don t have to worry about messy coils of hose getting tangled on the ground, so the usual problem of kinking is not an issue. My tap is 3 metres away from where I need to put the hose reel. What can I do? You can add an additional length of hose to the leader hose to make it the right length for your situation. Can I use different hose fittings or other water devices? Yes, the hose is a standard 12mm (1/2 ) PVC hose. This means that the majority of connectors on the market will fit the hose. Can I leave the hose reel outside in the elements? Yes you can, however after a long period of time, the casing will fade due to the harsh Australian sun, which will not affect the performance of the reel. Ongoing, extreme heat may damage the hose retraction mechanism so it is recommended to try and mount your reel in a sheltered spot or out of direct midday sun. If my hose is damaged or has holes, can I replace it? No. If the hose is damaged, the unit is irreparable. Can I put my own hose in this hose reel? No, the hose reel comes with a spring-loaded 20m length of hose, which is non-replaceable. What pressure is the hose rated to? 800 kpa working pressure and 2400 kpa before bursting. Can attach my hose reel to my rainwater tank? Yes of course. But make certain that you tell the company installing your pump that you want to use 20 metres of garden hose. You will need a larger pump to push water through this distance. Mains pressure (over 690 kpa) will easily push through this distance but beware of low horsepower pumps typically associated with rainwater. I am having difficulty retracting my hose reel; what should I do? Check the hose reel is not twisted or kinked pull the hose out to its maximum length and gently retract watching for kinks. Very low temperatures may cause the hose to be less flexible, making it difficult to retract. We recommend not leaving the hose out when it is very cold, or you may need to wait until the hose has warmed up. Refer to retraction tips for more help. How do I install the hose reel? Detailed instruction manuals are included with the product. We also hav e asimple installation training video available online at www.evadale.com.au. Alternatively contact Evadale Healthcare Customer Service Team and walk you through it. Why is an orange sticker on the hose? The orange warning strip is there to let you know when you have reached the safe working limit of the hose reel. When you see the sticker, do not pull the hose out any further. My hose reel is leaking; what should I do? Make sure connectors are tightly and correctly attached. Make sure no rubber washers are missing in any of the connectors. I have pulled the hose reel apart and now I can t put it back together? Unfortunately you have voided your warranty and we recommend that it is time to purchase a new hose reel.
