Printed report presented to WA6AVR. Motion to approve 2nded and passed unanimously. Net Report Mike N6AXQ Check-ins November: High-35 Low-26 Average-31(27% of membership) Visitors-5 high December: High-36 Low-15 Average-28(24%) Visitors-4 high N6AXQ welcomes comments/needs AE6LA liked running the net on Christmas Day. He encourages others to take Net Control Station from time to time. Contact N6AXQ if interested. WS6P agreed and encourages the same. Breakfast Report Mike K6AAN K6AAN reported the breakfasts are doing well. Murphys does a great job of hosting the group. Attendance was 17 in November, 10 in December. ARES/RACES Report Sam & PT Report attached.

New Business Questions on Future Events Chuck & Jerry 1/ Picnic WA6AVR asked if there was interest in a club picnic this year. Also, if there was anybody willing to take on the responsibility to organize said picnic. Discussion followed: The picnic may be tri-county (CARS, TCARES, ACARC) or not W6AJW: weather may be an issue. Perhaps a more moderate time of year could be chosen. W6RXK suggested considering an operation at Frog Jump instead of the picnic. Discussion followed about previous experiences with onsite operation there. RFI should probably not be a problem as in past years. W6RXK moved to do away with the annual Club Picnic and investigate an operation at Frog Jump (May 17-20). Motion seconded and passed unanimously. 2/ Christmas WA6AVR opened a discussion regarding a party for this year. One option is to have it at a restaurant. Cost to be approximately $25/plate. Should be centrally located. Potentially early December on a Saturday night. This would be better than no party. Another option would be to have a party catered at a hall. WA6AVR will chair this effort. General approval was given. Discussion regarding venues and formats. 3/ Mini Swap Meet WA6AVR opened discussion. The next close swap meet is in March in Loomis. Do we wish to see a local meet? Murphys Fire might be a good place. W6RXK pointed out that the County requires a use permit for such an operation. It was decided to table the discussion. Field Day KM6ELA is waiting for input from other members. The club has been invited back to Camp LodeStar. The only other suggestion at this time is Bear Valley. Seems odd to him as it is out of the county. Please contact KM6ELA for suggestions and offers of help.

N6AXQ asked for an overview of Field Day. KM6ELA spoke about Fellowship, Emergency Communications in a Remote Location and Competition between Clubs. Repeater Report AE6LA LaRue: waiting for him to fulfil his promise to get our antenna on top of the tower before the end of January. Then AE6LA will add the nodes and digipeaters along with the remote base. N6IV asked if AE6LA will have access to the repeater site. AE6LA answered that he will have access to the vault, but not the tower. Bear Valley: A user (not in CARS) offered to help put the repeater back in place after the ski lift construction. AE6LA will visit the site this spring to assess the situation. WS6P spoke of the need for a digipeater that can see the repeater site. W6RXK called Ron Mobley and found that he is not yet ready to offer his site for our repeater. AE6LA was contacted by Jeff Tolhurst about hosting a Ham Cram for the Columbia College Makers Club. Motion to accept offer 2nded and passed unanimously. Program Chuck W6AJW Worldwide Ham Station Ops Very informative and entertaining! WS6P talked a bit about NTS. He was #2 in the nation for passing traffic (see attachment) WS6P passed an NTS message to a member at the meeting, KM6PCZ, dated 12-25-17. The next CARS meeting will again be held at the Angels Camp Round Table. KK6GIX asked if she should cancel our standing reservation with the Odd Fellows hall. In answer, it was moved to continue the CARS club meetings at Round Table. 2nded and passed unanimously. Adjournment 20:07 Chuck & Jerry
