The Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Technologies Conference and Exhibition has become the premier forum for oil sands innovation. The world s eminent showcase for technologies developed for producing and upgrading high viscosity oil at minimum cost and environmental consequence. The event began on Tuesday with specialty forums covering sulfur management and the fundamentals of heavy oil. The workshops were well attended and led the event into a successful opening night reception on the exhibit floor. The keynote session opened the main conference on Wednesday, with expert looks at the high-interest issues of regulation, markets, and technology. Speakers included Mr. Terry Abel, P.Eng, Executive Manager, Oil Sands and Coal Branch, Energy Resources Conservation Board; Dr. Eddy Isaacs, CEO, Alberta Innovates Energy & Environment Solutions (Al-EES); Dr. Xingyi Wang, President, SORESCO Refinery and Deputy Chief Engineer of Refining and Chemical Department, China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Corporation; and, Mr. Bob Tippee, Conference Director and Editor, Oil & Gas Journal. Following the keynote session were three rich technical tracks on a broad range of subjects related to power and water, upgrading and facilities and drilling and extraction. And in the closing plenary session, operators described some of the projects turning one of the world s most important hydrocarbon resources into energy for tomorrow.
