MARCH 2017 WILLAMETTE CASCADE MODEL RAILROAD CLUB NEWSLETTER Conductor's Comments Volume 8 - Issue 3 By Lee Temple President As usual the membership did a great job at the Logging Conference, our last show before the Swap Meet in a string of shows we did from December thru February. We had adequate amount of people to help with set up and tear down, we are getting better and better with all the set ups we do, and we are becoming more and more effcient. Lots of success is due to key individuals in the club. People like Jim Saville who plans our modular set up and throughout the show is constantly tending to dead shorts, leveling and releveling of track, cleaning the track, running jumpers over our frogs etc. On one morning because we had an opening at the beginning time slots at 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Jim was running two of his trains with logging related equipment with a throttle in each hand! It really made me smile. Diane had all the fyers we need, a newer fyer on our club and on our websites, and making sure all the details were tended too. Besides all of that she has a full time job keeping me going in a forward direction with reminders, notes, etc. and doing our business. I could not do what I do without her. This has been a very busy time right now with all of the train shows and the up coming WCMRRC 29 th Annual Swap Meet April 8 th 9 th. Continued on Page 2

Conductor's Comments - Continued from Page 1 The leveling crew of Gary Schwieger, Greg Kent, and Jim Saville are becoming experts at making sure the track is level and in alignment with the mainlines. It was great to see Phil Fitzer be able get off of work to help. He was able to get a lot of the transition track pieces in place in a short amount of time because the tracks were numbered and arranged in order by Jim Saville. Jim and Elaine Crueger were there to fnish up with the transition pieces like they do show after show. They make the drive to and from Monroe no matter if we are in the Eugene-Springfeld area or as far away as Drain, they are always there to help. Charlie Lange, Martin Tighe, Lance Quaranto, Ed Barros, Rhodec Erickson, Bill Lee, Noah Russell, Dan Scheidell, Rich Pitter, David Wolfe, Roger Fegles, Gary Schwieger, Jim Saville, Phil Fitzer, Greg Kent, Jim and Elaine Crueger and myself helped with setup and or teardown or both. Please let me know if I left anyone out of the list. Roger Fegles spent a lot of time transferring our modules and other supplies from our club trailer to his trailer BEFORE the show, besides bringing his wonderful modules, and all the other stuff we need to set up the modular railroad. And he is the one that hooks up all the wires, rubber molding over the wires, power supply, and two cleaning trains that always clean the track while at the same time, making sure that all the railroad is running with no problems. We had a very successful show for the Logging Conference. This was our ffth year being at this show and the person in charge of this event always has nice things to say about our set up and she hears positive comments from the attendees. Again I like to see the members enjoying running their trains and watching the people's expressions when they see the trains. In closing, Diane and I could not do what we do without your help. Thank You To All! Hope To See You Saturday Night March 11!

Board Of Directors Election Results By Lee Temple At the January club business meeting we had Jim and Elaine Crueger run the nominations process for electing our Board of Directors. Joe Rademacher was back for the February club meeting after being sick and he was in charge of the distribution of ballots and counting the results of the membership and then reporting the results to the membership. I am pleased and proud to announce to you that our new Board of Directors for 2017 are Lee Temple -President, Roger Fegles - Vice President, Senior members are Rhodec Erickson, Dan Scheidell and Gary Schwieger. Our Junior Board Member is Noah Russell. Also we do have the positions that are assigned by the President. Joe Rademacher is the Secretary, Diane Temple is the Treasurer and Membership Chair, Roger Fegles is the Model Of The Month Chair, Charlie Lange is Refreshment Chair, and Jim Saville is Modular Chair, Lee & Diane Temple are Swap Meet Co-Chairs. Jim Crueger said that this is a sign of a healthy club when we had such a good amount of people who offered to run for the board. I agree with Jim - my observation is that if we have a large amount of people who want to serve their club, this is a sign of a very healthy and vibrant club that is reaching for new heights in sharing in the mission of the club of sharing with the public the wonders of model railroading. We have a great group of members. WCMRRC Invited Back To Lane County 2017 Fair By Lee Temple After meeting with Lane Event offcials during the recent 2017 Oregon Logging Conference I am happy to report to the membership that on March 1, 2017 I received a call from the Lane Events Center confrming that we will have our 30 ft. x 60 ft. space in the Exhibition Hall at the Lane Events Center where we were located last year to set up our trains. More detail will be coming in future newsletters but please mark your calendar for July 19-23, 2017. We will need lots of help for the set up of the HO modular railroad as always. I hope you are as excited as I am that we will again be at the Lane County Fair. The Willamette Cascade Model Railroad Club Meeting is held the 2 nd Saturday of each month at the Springfeld Utility Board Conservation & Energy Building at the corner of A Street & Pioneer Parkway in Springfeld, Oregon 7PM 10PM

Paid Advertisement Membership Update By Diane Temple We had membership renewals for Rhodec Erickson and Noah Russell in February. It has been super busy with the Swap Meet table reservations coming in. I have spent a lot of time sending out confrmation packets. It always gets super exciting this time of year. Lee & I will be starting to draw out the map for it next week. Gil Hulin did a nice clinic with a hand out with some very interesting information last month & Roger Fegles had videos & we saw some of the drone pictures from Dan Schidell that Roger had loaded on his computer. Bill Lee showed an example of some train tables that he has that are free from Darryl Noble's layout. We wish Darryl Noble and his wife well with their new adventures in Arizona. Peter Wood also announced that he has his modules for sale if anyone is interested. Their phone numbers are in the club directory or talk to them at the club meeting if you are interested in the trains tables or modules. Nick Prazniak did his Trivia contest at the meeting. The members have known the answers quite well on trivia questions. We have Ron Judd that has volunteered to do a contribution for our club newsletter. Watch for his frst quote at the end of this issue. Cover Picture For The Front Page The Oregon Electric on 5 th Street in the 1920's when it was a passenger depot. This is a picture that was given to Lee Temple some time ago. Gil Hulin Had A Brief Quiz For The Members 1. How many Amtrak rail passenger stations currently exist in Oregon? 2. How many railway passenger stations existed in Oregon in 1951? Gil will go over this with the members at our club meeting & the answers will be in our next newsletter.

Willamette Cascade Model Railroad Club Says Thank You To: EUGENE TOY & HOBBY MARK & ALAN AGERTER 32 EAST 11TH AVENUE EUGENE, OR 97401 Thank You For All Of Your Support To Our Club! March WCMRRC Meeting Highlights We have Peter Wood doing a clinic on the Portola Railroad Museum and other places that he has visited. Dan Scheidell will be showing how his drone works. He will have the drone at the meeting. He will show videos that he has just taken with the drone. We saw some on Facebook that he had done that was great to see. Also we have Roger Fegles with his collection of happenings to share with us and also the videos that he has running for us when we arrive at the meeting each month. Not sure where Roger fnds some of the things he shares! Personally we want to see a picture of all the new calves that are being born on their farm! We will have the sign up sheets for the jobs that we need help with for the swap meet. This is our annual fund raiser and we need the help from our club members to make this a successful event. Also we will have sign up for the club's G-Scale layout that will be set up in a 14' X 32' space. Again as at the Valley River train show we need the members of the club to help run the trains for this layout. Roger Fegles Talking To People About Operation Lifesaver Logging Conference
