PRESIDENTS MESSAGE - HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU. I hope you had a great Christmas Holliday if you had the opportunity to attend our So Cal GR chapter Christmas Party in December, I know you enjoyed not only the German entrees for lunch at the Monte Vista Grove in Pasadena, but also the Christmas music by the choral group, `The Other Reindeer Christmas Carolers`. A great time was had by all including the sale of the `Stollen` (all sold out). Now let us get in to the happenings of the new-year; the beginning of a great new 2016 year. To begin with, your chapter board will be meeting to discuss the upcoming year s meetings and activities on January 9 th at 12:00 Noon at the formerly Bixby Café in Long Beach all members are printed December 28, 2015 20160130 Newsletter page 3 of 8
invited. Then, on Saturday, January 30, we will have our first So Cal GR Chapter 2016 luncheon meeting at 11:30 AM (Social), 12:00 (Noon), meeting, at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim. The special program will be a unique presentation to be made by Dr. Brent Mai on the subject of A Day in the Life of a Volga German. Dr. Mai is the Director of the Center for Volga German Studies at Concordia University, Portland, Oregon. This should be a highlight of your planned yearly activities. Please call with any questions that you may have so that you do not miss this special event. Other yearly activities planned include Chapter Meetings at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim on March 19, 2016, followed by the Summer Picnic at Bob Freeman s beautiful home on the beach on June 18 th. Now for the `AHSGR Biggy` of the year 2016; and that is the 2016 AHSGR Convention to be held at the Concord Hilton Hotel in Concord, California, July 14 16, 2016. The program s theme is Before the Storm. Please mark this on your calendar and support it the best you can. Your chapter is one of the hosts and we are soliciting volunteers as well as attendees to this great event. Phyllis Stumpf is in charge of the Hospitality Room and is in need of volunteers. Please let Phyllis know at 951.567.5368 of your assistance. It takes many helpers to efficiently run the activities and functions of a convention. However, when enough volunteers are available, only a small amount of time is needed from each person. In closing, I encourage your participation in not only the So Cal GR Chapter activities, but also the AHSGR National convention during July 14 16, 2016 at the Hilton Concord in Concord CA. I have attached a more detailed publicity/information sheet for your use. Also, do not forget the 2016 GRHS convention in late summer. Sincerely, Larry Stumpf Co-President printed December 28, 2015 20160130 Newsletter page 4 of 8
