August 2014 in comparison to the previous year 1 Current overview of hotel performance for selected destinations in Germany: Berlin Occ: 82 %, ADR: 72, RevPAR: 59 Last year s August performance had been an outstanding month for Berlin s hotel market, which was challenging to top this year. This year s results were slightly declining (Occ: - 1 %, ADR: -1%, RevPAR: -3%). Due to the late beginning of the summer break, this August registered only one complete business week compared to two weeks in 2013. However the weekends have been successful with leisure business demand. Cologne/Bonn Occ: 72 %, ADR: 95, RevPAR: 68 The month of August was a success for the Cologne/ Bonn region (Occ: + 14 %, ADR: + 9 %, RevPAR: + 25 %). The gamescom (13.-17.08.2014) broke again all records and hotels saw an outstanding pick- up with high rates. There was also a high demand for the spoga+gafa (31.08.- 02.09.2014) where high rates have been additionally sold. Further, all remaining weekends showed good and high booking levels. Dresden Occ: 80 %, ADR: 63, RevPAR: 50 Dresden s hoteliers are very pleased with an outstanding August performance (Occ: + 8 %, ADR: + 2 %, RevPAR: + 9 %). A high demand especially for weekend periods created a positive surprise for hoteliers. Transient demand as well as group business showed excellent results. Unsteady weather conditions were apparently a driver for city trips. In addition, the ETSI-Congress (17 22.08.2014) influenced the pick-up and resulted in an increase in hotel s average daily rate. Dusseldorf Occ: 63 %, ADR: 85, RevPAR: 54 Growth in RevPar for the Dusseldorf hotel market was predicted for August stated in the Trendbarometer and growth has been confirmed for last month overall performance (Occ: +14%, ADR: -2%, RevPar: +12%). The hotels increased their occupancy levels successfully due to several promotions and packages. Compared to 2013, hotels also experienced a higher demand within the group segment. Frankfurt Occ: 62 %, ADR: 84, RevPAR: 52 Hoteliers in Frankfurt experienced a slight growth of 0.2% in RevPar which was especially influenced by the positive development of occupancy levels (Occ: +1%). Whereas the occupancy increase was mainly driven by the very positive results within the meeting segment, remaining capacities could still be filled with business and leisure (stopover) guests so the general statement of Frankfurt hoteliers. Hamburg Occ: 88 %, ADR: 104, RevPAR: 91 Short-term bookings for the annual Vattenfall Cyclassics as well as for the Alstervergenügen had a large share in the increase of the rates (ADR: +3%). In addition, the bi-annual Hamburger Cruise Days as well as the first time arrival of the Dalai Lama were beneficial for development of the rates. Page 2
Munich Occ: 85 %, ADR: 122, RevPAR: 104 Munich s hotels can look back to an outstanding August (Occ: + 5 %, ADR: + 11 %, RevPAR: + 17 %). The city of Munich benefited obviously from this summer s trend of city trips. As weather conditions had been unsteady, many travelers decided against sea or mountain destinations. Due to the early end of Ramadan this year, Munich experienced also high levels of business deriving from the Arabic market. Page 3
