Description: The local event in the trinational agglomeration of Basel will show and discuss projects and solutions for cross border cooperation in urban regions. Everyday life in the trinational urban area determines the content and approach of the international building exhibition IBA Basel 2020. By 2020, the IBA should take shape through a series of landmarks from the first interim presentation in 2013 to the final presentation in 2020 when the completed projects will be made available to the public. True to the spirit of its guiding principle Au-delà des frontières, ensemble - Gemeinsam über Grenzen wachsen (Growing together across borders) the IBA is striving to firm up shared responsibility for the agglomeration in projects, buildings, infrastructures and landscape regions and provide impetus for a culture of cross-border cooperation. In this way, every IBA project will act as a unifying platform to create relationships between people or shared spaces. The public opening of the IBA Project Exhibition 2013 shows the variety of the 41 IBA projects and approaches, which seek to realize the cross border development at international standard. The event and different panels provide opportunities for information and informal contacts with decision makers and project organisers. Target groups of participants: Representatives from the region s universities, voluntary and community sector, local authorities, local government, and international experts and professionals of cross-border cooperation and international building exhibitions in Europe, interested public. Basel-Stadt (ETC and multi-level networks) "slowup Basel-Dreiland" Synergies and cooperation Basel-Weil am Rhein- Rheinfelden-Huningue 15 September 2013 Type: Car-Free Day Organisers: Association slowup Basel-Dreiland Chair: Manuel Friesecke, Director of Regio Basiliensis and President of the Association slowup Basel- Dreiland. Speakers: N/A Description: On a Sunday in September, in the three countries surrounding the city of Basel, 60 km of roads will be blocked off for motorised vehicles. The route passes through 14 municipalities located in Switzerland, France, and Germany, with over 13 fairgrounds. The wonderful atmosphere created by the car-free environment can be enjoyed by people of all ages, whether they are the sporty type or a leisurely stroller. The circuit contains three loops of 20 km each and crosses the border 7 times. This important event attracts up to 65'000 guests, who participate on their bicycle or inline skates. The route is mostly flat, and the speed and travel distance is entirely up to the participating individual. Participation in the event is free and open to the public. This year the event will be held for the 7th time in Basel, and is being funded through public and private sponsors. 500 volunteers will be present to ensure the safety of the participants along the route, and to provide food and entertainment at the fairgrounds. Switzerland already hosts 20 slowup events, however, slowup Basel-Dreiland is the only one that takes the participants through three countries. More information can be found at www.basel-dreiland.ch Target groups of participants: The population at large. People who enjoy walking, biking, and socialising in the outdoors. This event is not an event for high performance athletes, but for anyone, regardless of age, size, or strength. More information: http://www.basel-dreiland.ch/ 5
