Highly Recommended Restaurants The Oasis on Lake Travis: Sunset Capital of Texas http://www.oasis-austin.com/ Where you can admire a scenic sunset, your libation of preference in hand, from a choice of over a thousand chairs (imagine the agony of Goldilocks in a joint like this!). Best Place To Impress Out-of-Towners: The Oasis (Readers Poll, Food & Drink, 1996) Best Restaurant With A View: The Oasis (Readers Poll, Food & Drink, 1996) Best Place To Drink Outdoors: The Oasis (Readers Poll, Arts & Entertainment, 1995) Tex Mex; Seafood; Sandwiches, etc. Salt Lick Barbeque in Round Rock http://www.saltlickbbq.com/locations_rr.html Best Barbecue: The Salt Lick (Readers Poll, Food & Drink, 2001) The Roberts family have been Q-ing up Central Texas for years, and the friendly feel of the picnic table dining room have folks coming back for more. When it's served "family style" (all you can eat), even folks hitting deep meat stupor will hear themselves uttering the words, "Yes, please!" The Salt Lick in Round Rock is within a few hundred feet of the Dell Diamond, home of the Round Rock Express (AAA affiliate of the Houston Astros). Unfortunately, the first home game isn t until April 16, 2010, but that gives another reason to return to Central Texas and enjoy more barbeque! Scholz Garten, The Oldest Business in Texas since 1866 http://www.scholzgarten.net/ 2006: Best Tourist Destination for Your Bachelor Brother Why not show your bro' one of the last Texas biergartens? This 140-year-old watering hole has been the gathering place for generations of Texas politicians and exuberant Longhorn fans. Head on down on any night, grab some suds, tuck into your schnitzel, and soak in the history to the oompah soundtrack provided by the Wurst Band. He'll never look at Austin the same way. Barbeque, chicken fried steak, German food, variety of beers, etc. South by Southwest (SxSW) For the adventurous and young at heart, travel to the 6th Street downtown entertainment center (http://www.6street.com/). South by Southwest (SxSW) will be in full swing on March 17. Austin's eclectic melting pot boils during the SxSW entertainment industry summit. Record-company executives, producers, dot-commers and other movers and shakers descend on the city looking to discover the next hot musical act or independent filmmaker (http://www.sxsw.com/). For the SxSW venues, tickets/armbands must be purchased, although there are many restaurants/music venues that host different musical acts.
