Brandywine Valley Ski Association PO Box 549 Downingtown, PA 19335 www.brandywinevalleyski.com October/November 2011 The Prez Sez Have The A Ball, Prez In Sez The Fall Tom Ward OH, AH! Fall is here, my favorite time of year, and probably the busiest time of year for BVSA. You got to love the crisp air in the morning and the trees all ablaze with Fall colors, for my money, it s the best time of year. BVSA has a multitude of events planned for your pleasure. There s our heat at the Marshallton Triathlon, The Fall Camping at Hickory Run State Park, (this is my favorite time of year for camping), The Halloween Party, (you can t beat Joan s Halloween Parties), The Brigg s Bonfire and Concert, (this is my favorite event, don t get too close, you may get burned by this hot event), and last but not least The BVSA Holiday Party, (the band will be good, the food will be good, the price will be good and for the first time it will be casual attire). So hurry up and sign up for one or more of these events, I guarantee a good time will be had by all, because you can t beat BVSA in the Fall. By now you have probably heard that Jean Stuart is no longer doing the Happy Hours for the club, scheduling Happy Hours and doing meeting minutes for the club was a ton of work, and she did both exceptionally well. I am personally sorry to see Jean give up the Happy Hours, but I understand completely, and I would like to thank her for the great job she does for BVSA. Jean, I think your HH s were the best. Now for a little eating crow, (crow doesn t taste so good). I made a mistake, (who me, yes me, I m only human), my whole life, when I made a mistake, I d either fix it, or take responsibility for it and apologize. Well this one I can t fix, so here is my public apology to Ian, Liz and the BVSA membership. Ian sent me an email proposing a non ski trip. I thought I forwarded it to the activities committee, but apparently, I didn t, (everyone knows what thought did). This mistake was even worse because, I ve been asking people to run non-ski trips. My mistake lost BVSA the opportunity to go on a great trip. So if you have a great idea for any BVSA activity, please do not depend on me. The procedure for submitting events and trips to BVSA is to: submit it to the activities committee, hopefully in person, at Ruffini s on the third Wednesday of each month, at 7 PM. (all members are welcome). Please bring all details, costs and contracts. When the Activities Committee is satisfied with your submission, they will submit it to the BVSA Board for approval. HAPPY HOUR AT THE DOWNINGTOWN COUNTRY CLUB (by Laird Duncan) I went to the Happy Hour September 16th at the Downingtown Country Club. There was a wedding party heading into in the banquet hall and a couple of large groups that were coming for the band, a very senior citizen birthday party, and some other group. And, because it was such a nice day, there were a whole lot of golfers around the bar. Virtually every table in the bar area and both the upstairs and downstairs seating areas was reserved. However, the patio was, and remained, pretty much empty except for Risbob and me (the smokers). Go figure. Well, the golfers gradually left to go home thus freeing up space at the bar and management managed to come up with a few tables later in the evening as the early group(s) left. There were great free apps and lots of them... veggie platters, cheeses and crackers, spinach phillo thingies, and sesame seed crusted chicken fingers. They were good! Off the menu the "Par Three" was a hit - your choice of three apps served on a three tiered stand for 15 bucks. The band was a four piece group of old guys (they all play with the John Hoey Orchestra) and they were doing "British Invasion" night. The Beatles (of course), Van Morrison, Peter & Gordon, The Stones, The Kinks, Jerry and the Pacemakers, etc, and one Motown piece to "advertise' their next DCC appearance on 10/14 which will be Motown night. They were fantastic. People were up dancing, and I was reliving my high school and early college days with all the memories the tunes stirred up. I might go back on the 14th. We had a good crowd. Peter Hart, Frank K., Sue Meuser, Cindy and Ed Minka, Jeanne Meachum, Carol H. with some friends she brought, Ris, Tim and Eva and their new member neighbors, Tom, Pat, Pam Terry, Cheryl, Joyce, Jeff L, Jeff E and Mabel, Mike and Donna, Dick Reilly, etc. Probably 30 or more attended. Some of the early arrivals were little bit sour because they couldn't get tables. But as the beverages flowed, the rest of the crowd showed up, the band played on, and they got tables. It was a very fun evening. When: Saturday before Thanksgiving, November 19, 2011, 6 p.m. -? Where: 205 South Bonsal Road, off Airport Rd., Coatesville, Pa. 19320 Cabin Phone: 610-458-0908 Cost: $10 The Briggs Bonfire Party Forecast: Chili but you will not be cold Hot Bonfire, Hot band, Warm Friends Bring: a covered dish to share, remember it will go with Chili.
