Good Sam Club Chapter 142, Dogwood Good Sams, Chartered in 1990 Our Website: http://dogwoodsams142.org/ November 2013 The newsletter year is 11/1 to 10/31. This is issue 2 of 9 for 2013-2014. December 2013 Chapter Officers President Lawrence Merino 850 623-5428 The Dogwood Spotlight Vice President Armando Lozano 850 438-2437 Secretary Connie Homan 850 621-7644 Treasurer Peggy Lee 850 476-4574 Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest FL Ronald McDonald House (www.rmhc-nwlf.org) is one of the Dogwood Sams charities. Their mission is to be the BEST Home-Away-From-Home and source of respite and resources for children and families of children suffering a medical crisis. They believe that children heal faster when their families are together. And their philosophy is simple nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest. That s why Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida strives to be the best home away from home for families who travel to Pensacola to receive critical medical treatment for their children. Since opening in 1984 with a six-bedroom house through growing to their current 26-bedroom facility, they have served over 6000 families. Please save your can tabs and bring your donations to the Chapter campouts, Lois and Tommy Crutchfield will make sure it gets to the Ronald McDonald House. Chapter News December 6-7, 2013 Lorra Connie & Bob Karen & Mondo Theresa & Bob Gene & Irene Peggy & Robert Lois & Tommy Randy & Polly Larry & Jackie Donna & Lonny Carolyn & Roy Nell & Sydney Robert Homan Lozano Malone Parker Lee Crutchfield Chestnut Blake Myers Alfeld Lewis The December 6-8, 2013 week end at Magnolia Farms RV Park in Foley, AL started a little early for some of our Chapter members (arriving Thursday) and by Friday afternoon twelve rigs had arrived, some even decorated for the holidays. Thursday afternoon and evening was cold outside so the group spent time visiting and playing cards. Friday morning, the women got together to do a little shopping. Then some members met at Lambert s (home of the tossed rolls) for a late lunch. They rolled out of there full and with to-go boxes. The evening brought the dirty Santa gift exchange with everyone bringing a gift to Lois Crutchfield & Gene Parker exchange and party munchies. Both were GREAT! There were many nice gifts so some lost their gifts many times and had to either take someone else s gift or select one from under the tree. There were numerous laughs, plus Irene Parker made sure everyone had their picture taken wearing reindeer antlers or Santa s hat Polly Chestnut & Lois Crutchfield (pictures are at the top of the page). Nell, Sydney, Jackie, Larry, Karen, Connie, Bob, Polly, Randy, Mondo Saturday was a busy day. The morning started with Bob Malone and Larry Blake cooking meat and eggs for those who wanted breakfast. This was followed by the Chapter meeting with the following notes: Bring contributions for USO and Ronald McDonald House. Get well cards were sent to Dottie Rance, Lonnie Myers, and Donna Myers. January campout will be hot dogs Friday night, then soup and salads for Saturday evening meal. January campout will be at Sunset King Lake Resort in DeFuniak Springs, February - Mystic Springs and March - Lake Stone (we need 11 rigs to reserve the pavilion). Lake Stone offers a discount for Escambia residents. The chapter will participate in Wreaths Around America at Barrancas Cemetery on December 14 th at 9:00 a.m. Meet in front of the rest rooms at 8:30, wearing your chapter vests. We will pick up wreaths January 5 th, time TBA. A letter will be sent stating that we will follow the state s Standard Operating Procedures and if needed, we can add amendments later. Checks to Dogs for the Deaf and Camp Boggy Creek were delivered and thank you notes were received. Eglin Pet Welfare and Santa Rosa Kids donations will be delivered this month. Dogs for the Deaf are no longer doing patches; only bones. Current state directors Jim and Debbie Weston will be seeking a second term and Linda Voyton will seek reelection as state treasurer. Keep track of all Good Sam volunteer hours. This year brings a big push for membership with no cap for the number of rigs in a chapter. The chapter has a Facebook group that can be found by searching for Dogwood Sams Good Sams Chapter 142. Larry Blake & Robert Malone Page 3 of 5

After the meeting the group got together to decorate candy canes as reindeer and mice for the USO. Thank-you Jackie Blake for organizing that event. The day continued with The Chapter Scrapbook Project meeting. It was decided that everyone needs to bring printed Reindeer Candy Canes pictures to donate then a photo album/scrapbook can be put together. Card games continued and everyone prepared for the GREAT turkey dinner with all the fixings. Thank-you Lois Crutchfield for organizing the dinner and making sure we had a good variety of food and desserts. It was pretty cold outside Saturday night, but there was a campfire to enjoy and some stayed inside to play games. Irene Parker won the 50/50 and graciously donated the money back to the Mice Candy Canes chapter. Charles Leonard won the Christmas basket that was raffled. Sunday morning everyone prepared for their travels home and looking forward to the next campout.
