THE CROSSINGS AT MORTON GROVE LEARN ABOUT THE SERVICES YOUR COMMUNITY HAS TO OFFER
P R O F I L E History The village of Morton Grove has been a thriving community since the late 19th-century, named after Levi Parsons Morton, who served as an ambassador to France and accepted the Stature of Liberty on behalf of the people of the United States in 1884. Morton also provided the financing for the Chicago-Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad in the early 1870s. A railroad stop that was covered with extensive stands of hickory and oak tress was named in his honor Morton, the word Grove was added in 1895 when the village was incorporated. As the Roaring Twenties had approached, Morton Grove had already established itself as an entertainment mecca, with more than its share of roadhouses and speakeasies. One roadhouse in particular still stands on Dempster Avenue with its original look-out tower. Character The Crossings at Morton Grove supplies a tranquil lifestyle for you and your family, located only twenty minutes from downtown Chicago. The village of Morton Grove offers superb schools and the award-winning college preparatory school, Loyola Academy is only minutes away. The magnificent Old Orchard Mall with Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale s, Marshall Field s (Macy s) and countless restaurants is just six minutes away. 1
