REMOTE TOWER Up to 4 lines A new approach for mid-size airports
What is Remote Tower? By 2019, HungaroControl aims to operate a full-time remote tower in Budapest. Budapest airport will be the first remotely controlled airport of its size and complexity, with over 100,000 movements per year. Remote Tower for Multiple Airports The concept of multiple remote towers can further maximize the cost savings realized through the implementation of Remote Tower services. The basic notion of the concept is for a single Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) to deliver control services to multiple airports simultaneously from a single working position. 11
Operational benefits Increased situational awareness More convenient workplace & working position Increased capacity (e.g. LVP/normal) To have a chance for real solutions 100% tailored to your needs To exploit the advantages of augmented reality Financial benefits What are the benefits of a Remote Tower? Less capital expenditure considering normal office building Less operational expenditure considering camera and data connection infrastructure Optional: decreased number of ATCOs Less cost related to the ATCO s training Safety benefits Enhanced safety Increased situational awareness Increased capacity (e.g. LVP/normal) High definition cameras technology to safely and securely manage air traffic 12
MERGESTRIP Up to 4 lines The right way to reduce fuel burn, CO2 and noise
What is MergeStrip? The tool, which facilitates continuous descent approach, helps air traffic controllers schedule arriving traffic in a more efficient way, reduces fuel burn, CO2 emissions and also the noise load on the population near airports MergeStrip in numbers: Saving 80-100 per minute reducing the time a plane has to spend extra in the air Increasing airport capacity by 20 percent Decreasing 109 kg fuel burn on average Reducing significant CO2 emission (up to 30%) 14
Useful even with two aircraft Does not require extra airspace DTG from the edge of radar coverage What are the benefits of MergeStrip? Can be used with vectoring From any direction Dynamic spacing tool EC and PC Tool Smooth transition Cheap implementation 15
CENTRE OF RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND SIMULATION Up to 4 lines Offering simulation, training and consultancy services
Prototyping and development ATM system development ATM functions prototyping HMI prototyping Validation of new technologies and solutions CPDLC validation ATM system validation Validation of new operational concepts New airspace validation Airspace and sector development Validation of PBN (Performance-Based Navigation) Validation of new supporting tools & devices MergeStrip validation Validation of Arrival and Departure Management Systems (AMAN / DMAN) Motion controlled ATCO workstation Human Factors assessment capabilities ATCO workload measurement ATCO situational awareness measurement Modelling, simulating and analysing unusual, emergency and extreme situations Emergency simulations Extreme situations Integrating Remotely Piloted Air Vehicles in the civil airspace Analysis of UTMs Area Proximity Warning Systems Penetration Proximity Warning Simulation services
What are the benefits of the Simulations @ CRDS? Fast-Time Simulation Testing different traffic samples, airspace designs Impact on airspace configuration Assessment of artificial controller workload Impact on flying distance & time, fuel burn Real-Time Simulation Testing different procedures, traffic samples Impact on airspace configuration Impact on human factors and safety matters Identification of hotspots INCREASED SECTOR CAPACITY INCREASED FLIGHT EFFICIENCY REDUCED COST FOR AIRLINES INCREASED SECTOR CAPACITY REDUCED ATCO WORKLOAD INCREASED SAFETY 18
