The Peruvian shipments are expected to continue to come down rapidly over the next 3 to 4 weeks, but could end abruptly if the rainy season arrives (see pages 3-4). Mexico began their export season in mid-january, and currently the states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Michoacán are harvesting and packing (see pages 6-8). Nicaragua, Guatemala, and and other Central American countries are expected to initiate their export season in the next two weeks (see pages 9-10). VARIETIES: The only variety out of Peru for the remainder of their season is Kent. Currently, the main varieties from Mexico are Honey/Ataulfo (82%), Haden (10%), and Tommy Atkins (8%). SIZING: The main sizes for Honeys/Ataulfos are Large (sizes 13-15 and 16-17), followed by Small (sizes 18 and 20), and some size 12. The most common Mexican round varieties (Hadens and Tommy Atkins) are Large (sizes 10, 9, 12); followed by Small (sizes 12 and 14); and a few Extra-Large (size 7). See page 8 for the full chart. VOLUMES : Peruvian volumes are expected to come down and Mexican volumes are expected to continue increasing over the next few weeks. Total weekly shipped volumes are projected to stay between 1.5 and 1.7 million boxes per week for the next 2-3 weeks, then increase steadily towards 3 million boxes/week by the end of March. Total weekly volumes are projected to stay above 3 million boxes/week from early April onward. See pages 2,4 and 7 for more details. Mango volume shipped on week ending 2/17/18 was approximately 2,524,183 boxes. During the same week last year, volume shipped was approximately 1,335,528 boxes. This will cause discrepancies between the volume shipped from the source and the volume arrived at the U.S. entry ports in any given week. All projections will be adjusted throughout the season.
