1. The Importance of Tourism In the last decades, tourism has become one of the main economic activities in the world. The constant growth of tourism industry is an international phenomenon that has boosted the socio-economic development of many countries. Some of the reasons for this are: It attracts significant investments It is a capital-intensive industry It creates jobs It has a positive effect on the services, construction, and telecommunications industries 11% of World productivity is based on tourism industry, and it provides one out of every eleven jobs* *Source: WTO

The Importance of Tourism Estimates project that within ten years the tourism market will double in size, which means that by 2020 1 560 million tourists will be traveling and producing a revenue of two thousand billion dollars For all these reasons, the evolution of tourism deserves special attention from both government institutions and private sector professionals. So, what better place to understand the evolution of the market and get acquainted with the latest trends than the International Tourism Fair of the Americas Fita 2012?
1. The Importance of Tourism in Mexico Tourism is a factor of major importance for the economy of many nations; specially for Mexico, as it is the third-largest source of income This is clearly evident in Mexico City since it is the #1 tourism destination in the country and #2 in all Latin America, as it welcomes 12 million tourists each year and is Mexico s aerial doorway, serving more than 32 million passengers
2. Fita 2011 Fita 2011 was consolidated as the most important tourism event in Latin America. In an 35 000m2 area for exhibition and 10 000m2 for seminars and conferences. Over 3000 exhibitors were present, representing the following segments: Sun and beach tourism, cultural tourism, ecotourism, cuisine tourism, luxury tourism, meetings and conventions, honeymooners, health tourism, nautical tourism, adventure tourism, golf & spa, among others. The business rounds system arranged 40 thousand pre-scheduled business meetings. This gathered over 12 thousand professional participants; 3000 of them were exhibitors, and 9000 professional visitors coming from the five continents. We also want to take this chance to inform you that the third edition of the International Tourism Fair of the Americas will be held from Septemeber 20th to 23rd, 2012. We look forward to meet you there.
3. Mexico City Mexico City, one of the largest in the world, is a cosmopolitan space, filled with lights, colors, tastes, and sensations. It is a city of contrasts that mixes in unique ways its multicultural past with the vanguard of the 21st century. It is located in the center of the country, a strategic spot both for Mexico and for the continent. This is the ideal location for the International Tourism Fair of the Americas, thanks it its wide offer in tourism, culture, and top-level services, as well as for having the necessary infrastructure for organizing an event of this magnitude. For Mexico City, Tourism is the third most productive activity; it represents nearly 7% of local GDP, amounting to 43, 290 million pesos annually, generating over 275 000 jobs directly and over 680 000 jobs indirectly. It is the ideal place for every taste and budget, and its amazing diversity regarding cuisine made Forbes declare it as one of the cities with the greates culinary wealth.
4. The Expo Center Expo Bancomer It has a column-free surface exceeding 35,000m2, which maximizes space usage. From the entrance the whole venue can be contemplated, providing an overview of the fair. It is located in Santa Fe, which reflects the 21st century Mexico. Santa Fe has an important infrastructure of high-end hotels and restaurants. The venue is well communicated with both the Benito Juárez international airport and the Toluca airport, as well as with the main roads for access.
5. Our exhibitors Over 3,000 national and international exhibitors attended. The highlights of this edition were Guerrero as our Guest Destination and Canada as our Guest Country, with over 600m2. More than 900 companies participated. 7. Visitors Fita 2011 was visited by over 50,000 persons interested in the tourism industry. Fita 2011 Mexico City was aimed at the tourism industry professional on Thursday and Friday, and opened to the general public on Saturday and Sunday. The fair received a select group of visitors, from which we can highlight : travel agencies, both Mexican and from the rest of the world investors wholesalers tourism industry entrepreneurs, etc.
8. Communications Program Advertising program with a 4 million dollars budget, with over 70 national and international media, including TV, radio, press, and exteriors. Promotion program, including participation with stands in over 12 international fairs where Fita is promoted via press conferences and meetings with media, as well as visiting future buyers and exhibitor Communications and Press Program, by means of interviews given to media, the results of Fita 2011 are made known, as well as the advances and novelties for 2012 (over 100 interviews and articles in printed and electronic media.) Online Program through our website (with over 6 million hits) and delivering a bimonthly newsletter to a database comprising over a hundred thousand tourism professionals. Additional Benefits 147 events were held during Fita, among them were the forum, 44 conferences, 45 seminars, 26 wine tastings, 26 tastings, two recognition awards, and the presentation of the book El pequeño Gigante del Turismo (Tourism's little giant). The media and press were hosted in a dedicated area. Sixty-nine companies, both national and international took part. In this edition we had Guerrero as our Guest Destination and Canada as our Guest Country. As part of Fita 2011 program, 15 music presentations from different countries as well as from national destinations were held, as well as several representations from different Mexican states.

10. Fita in the world We are very happy to inform that we are part of the World Tourism Organization, approved by the Executive Council on its 90th session, which was celebrated in Mombasa, Kenya in June, 2011.
